That walk, which only stirred up more thoughts, wasn’t very long.

It was partly because we had entered the village only after sunset, and partly because Leopric, who had been following me the whole time, weighed on my mind.

He had said if I was uncomfortable, he would just guard me without saying a word—and he truly did so, yet that only made me more uneasy.

I wished, in my heart, that I could just go inside first and get ready for bed, but I knew he would never go in unless I told him to.

“Let’s head back now, Lord Leo.”

Eventually, I turned to face him and suggested we return.

On the way back, the three of us walked side by side.

I was slightly nervous about what to say to him, but fortunately, Betty was there with us.

Betty, who could easily strike up conversation with anyone and lift the mood.

Throughout the short return walk, Betty chattered away to Leopric about all sorts of things:

How skilled the knights were at riding, questions about tomorrow’s route, and countless compliments about how wonderful the journey had been.

Leopric, in turn, responded in a calm voice, occasionally laughing and nodding along with Betty.

It was a comfortable, warm atmosphere—

so much so that it felt entirely unsuitable for our situation, given we had to continue a long journey tomorrow.
