After finishing the registration for the martial arts tournament, we stepped back out onto the street. Only once we were buried among the crowd did I finally let out a sigh of relief.

“Whew, I was really startled back there.”

At my words, Dan Mok Bi frowned slightly and chuckled.

“I was even more startled. You called me a kid just a moment ago—what were you thinking, suddenly stepping forward like that?”

“Ugh.”

He was absolutely right. Stung by his sharp remark, I looked away and feigned innocence. Dan Mok Bi’s expression hardened, and he began scolding me.

“Among martial artists, there are kind-hearted people who uphold righteousness and chivalry—but there are also many arrogant brutes who rely solely on their own strength. Acting so recklessly is dangerous.”

Since Dan Mok Bi put it that way, I couldn’t pretend anymore. Fidgeting with my hands, I lowered my head deeply and confessed honestly.

“I just lost my temper for a moment—that’s all. I’m sorry.”

Even I thought my actions had been reckless. I’d assumed no one would actually try to overpower me by force, since I barely understood the basics of martial arts—but then again, the world is full of scum who won’t hesitate to use violence against those weaker than themselves.

‘Above all, in the martial world, people think that as long as you have power, you can do anything if you just push hard enough.’

In the end, Dan Mok Bi was right—I’d been impulsive. I resolved to cultivate more patience. Most of all, I needed to stop reacting so sharply every time someone insulted Dan Mok Bi; I wasn’t some overzealous parent.

‘After all, Dan Mok Bi is old enough to handle things himself!’

Seeing my genuine remorse, Dan Mok Bi smiled gently again and pulled the hand he was holding toward himself. Before I knew it, I’d been drawn into his embrace, and he whispered to me.

“Still, I was happy you took my side, Yeon. And don’t worry—you’ll be safe as long as you’re with me. I’ll protect you, no matter what.”
