I took a seat in a decent guesthouse. There were two rooms. As soon as I entered my room, I grabbed the side of Baekho and lifted it, saying,
“How can this be? It seems the young master likes me.”
Though I had said it with much worry, Baekho’s reaction was utterly gloomy.
So that’s what you were leading up to with such hesitation.
Why is it so gloomy? I’m serious. It’s a huge deal that the villain of the novel likes me.
It seemed he didn’t believe my words, so I emphasized it with a serious tone.
“No, no, I’m sure of it! Isn’t it? Isn’t it?”
As I spoke, my confidence wavered once again. Baekho yawned and spoke with a cute extended paw.
Love advice costs ten churu.
“Love advice! That’s not it!”
And one of your paws is five. You’ll have to raise both to make ten.
‘And love advice! There hasn’t been a confession yet, and we haven’t confirmed feelings, so is it really love already?’
I furrowed my brow. Unable to shake my impatience, I needed to verify something.
“Our young master isn’t the kind to hug and kiss just anyone. That’s right? So he must like me?”
Baekho flicked its paw and responded listlessly.
Normally, this would be called love advice.
“But love. We are……”
Originally, liking someone means we can date. But he is to become the prince of three territories, and I am one of dozens of contestants in that territory.
‘Danmokbi won’t just stand by and watch. He keeps telling me to know my place even now.’
My inner turmoil must have shown on my face. Frowning, I was watched sympathetically by Baekho, who sighed through its nose.
Just speak your mind, you keep having strange thoughts. What’s the story you want to tell? Are you upset?
I shook my head vehemently. If I had disliked Danmokbi’s touch, I would have pushed him away at that moment.
“Not at all. That’s impossible.”
I had never regarded him in that way, and was simply surprised, but if I had to describe the feeling, it would be fluttering.
Certainly, it was not a negative flutter.
Then the answer is clear.
“Huh?”
I widened my eyes at Baekho’s comment. Baekho chuckled, as if to say, didn’t you know?
If you’re fluttering and unsure, doesn’t it mean you like him too?
“That, that is…”
I hesitated to answer. The more I thought, the more negative thoughts crowded in.
“That is…”
As I was about to speak my thoughts with a dark expression, Baekho sternly said,
If you’re going to say it can’t happen, or the ranks don’t match, or such, shut your mouth. It’s rude to him too.
“Gasp.”
How did it know my heart so well?
‘Can a divine beast read my heart!’
I blushed and lowered my head. That many thoughts had come to me, meaning this.
“I’m a little confused.”
I don’t even know my own heart.
I spoke slowly.
“I really like him, I’ve liked the young master for a very long time. But if that means it’s romantic love…”
I had never perceived him as male before. So suddenly becoming a man, Danmokbi was unfamiliar.
Baekho laughed at my words like an old man.
I think that’s enough. Don’t you?
Who are you asking? I looked behind and found Danmokbi leaning against the door.
“Let’s go eat, Yeona.”
When did he hear all that? I sneakily glanced at Danmokbi’s expression. Baekho hopped off my lap, saying,
Why are you so timid now? Just say your feelings. Isn’t that kid’s feelings obvious?
What’s obvious? I found myself staring at Danmokbi’s broad back.
The tips of his ears seemed a little red.
[This is the time separator]Thanks to the guesthouse having a large dining hall, there was no need to go far, and a piping hot meal was available right there.
With wellbrewed tea and dumplings filled with juicy meat, the taste filled my mouth like it was packed with meat.
“Wow, the food really tastes different.”
In the region of Danmok where Danmoksegaga resides, the dumplings have a refreshing taste that pops like ginger or vinegar, it’s their unique characteristic.
As I was pushing the juicy dumplings into my mouth in fascination, Danmokbi pushed more food towards me, saying,
“Our region is extremely hot. Naturally, we tend to season the food strongly to prevent it from spoiling.”
Then he added with a slight squinting smile,
“Yeona, you always like it bland.”
“Ahaha, I do prefer plain food.”
Danmokbi didn’t say anything more, but I could tell from his affectionate gaze what he wanted to say. It meant that no matter how delicious it was, it couldn’t compare to the food I had made for him.
‘Even though he doesn’t usually let me into the kitchen.’
I kept pushing food into my mouth to hide my flushing face. The vegetable salad and stirfry suited my taste well, so I could constantly turn my thoughts to Danmokbi.
I quickly finished my meal and leisurely sipped on cooled tea, looking around. There were men in robes everywhere, not just us.
“Did they all come for the martial arts tournament? There are many who look like martial artists.”
Danmokbi nodded coolly.
“I heard it’s a big competition. There were quite a few on the road earlier.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
