“Just now. I came because I missed our Blanche. What were you doing?”

“I was playing with blocks with Mary. Come join us, Auntie.”

“Should I?”

Ayla and Blanche were busy exchanging their joy at seeing each other.

For some reason, it wasn’t easy to interrupt them, so Jade brought over the potted plant from the windowsill, fumbling his way.

He carefully placed it on the desk, afraid it might fall and shatter.

‘It’s always been here, so I assumed Father just cherished and nurtured it.’

He gently rubbed the orange-colored fruit, tapping it softly to keep it from bursting.

Until he learned the fruit’s true effect, a long-held sense of guilt had lain dormant within Jade.

That guilt had begun in childhood when he believed his father had lost his sight because of him. Thus, he never once mentioned his condition to Blanche.

He didn’t want Blanche to chew himself up with the same belief—that he’d blinded his father. He’d thoroughly hidden his blindness, even if it meant spending less time with the child.

‘Yet, Father was actually regaining his sight thanks to this.’

It was a relief.

Though his remorse toward his father hadn’t completely washed away, the heavy burden of guilt he’d always carried had lightened somewhat.

At last, his shoulders felt less weighed down.
