The next day, in the afternoon, a light rain fell.

‘Could it be because summer is approaching? It’s been raining often lately.’

I was on my way to Salome Castle with Blanche in a carriage. Soft raindrops tapped against the window.

‘It’s still raining.’

Salome Castle was half a day’s journey from the capital, yet even though we’d left in the morning, the sun was already setting.

‘Jade said he’d go ahead on foot first. We should be arriving at the villa soon.’

I woke Blanche, who had been curled up asleep.

“Blanche. We’ll be at the villa soon.”

She must have slept deeply—her whole body was warm.

“Blanche. You’ll see Aunt Ayla after so long. How do you feel?”
