Pregnant With The Wolf's Child (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
“Le Cach is said to be spring all year round, so this must be the last time I’ll ever see snow.”
It was nice to see snow one last time on the very day I left Langranxia.
Woooooo—
The ship’s horn blared loudly, signaling departure. Soon after, the vessel began to move, leaving Venice Harbor behind.
“If there’s anything you need, please don’t hesitate to call. I’ll do my utmost to ensure your journey is comfortable.”
“Thank you. You may go now.”
The special cabin the sailor had shown me was incredibly spacious.
I dismissed the sailor and called Mary from inside my pocket.
“Mary, you can come out now.”
“Peek!”
Mary, who had been wriggling inside my pocket, leaped out and landed on the floor.
“I’m so glad we boarded the ship safely….”
Mary released her beast form and reverted to her human shape, letting out a sigh of relief.
“You did well, Mary.”
Feeling my tension ease, sleepiness washed over me, and I lay down on the sofa.
How much time had passed? I opened my eyes as Mary gently shook me awake.
“My lady, we’ll be arriving in Le Cach soon.”
“…Le Cach?”
I collected myself and glanced in the mirror—my original appearance had returned.
‘So three hours have already passed.’
I left the cabin and went up to the deck, where Le Cach came into view just as dawn broke.
Unlike chilly, wintry Langranxia, Le Cach was filled with fragrant flower petals drifting through the air.
‘Ah, this is where we’ll live from now on. Do you like it?’
I disembarked and stood for a long while, watching people stroll leisurely past, their faces full of happiness.
“My lady, Le Cach feels so peaceful.”
“Indeed.”
It seemed like a wonderful place to raise a child, and I felt satisfied.
“Are you Lady Larien?”
My eyes met those of a gentle-looking young man with long, honey-colored hair tied to one side.
‘The proxy who was supposed to teach me about the trade house affairs was supposed to meet me here.’
Realizing he was the person Count Boston had mentioned, I offered my hand for a handshake.
“I received word from Count Boston through the communicator. I’m the proxy for the Boston Trade House. Please call me Aaron.”
As I took Aaron’s hand, I felt a strange, tingling sensation.
He adjusted his glasses and spoke kindly, yet his face felt eerily familiar.
Diego Barbossa.
The traitor who had pressed a knife to the Emperor’s throat, sentenced to hanging, yet escaped.
“Diego… Barbossa…?”
His gentle gaze instantly turned chilling. He subtly revealed the sharp teeth that marked him as a serpent beastkin and whispered quietly,
“…Since we’re both living under assumed identities, let’s pretend we don’t know each other. I’ll do the same for you.”
A serpent beastkin’s fangs carried venom potent enough to rob one’s voice for days.
His eyes held the threat of sinking those fangs into my throat at any moment.
“…Nice to meet you, Aaron.”
“Shall we go to the villa, Lady Larien?”
Aaron’s eyes softened once more.
[This is the timeline separator]The villa exuded a quaint, tranquil atmosphere.
“It would be best to begin official trade house duties in earnest only after you’ve fully recovered from your journey. Count Boston mentioned your little one, so I’ve already arranged for a midwife.”
“A midwife?”
“She’s the most trusted midwife in Le Cach—she’s assisted most mothers here.”
His thoughtful gesture of preparing a midwife in advance made me doubt whether this was truly the same person from before.

“Oh, Count Boston also asked that you contact him once you’ve arrived. The communicator is in my study—shall we go together?”
“…All right.”
I followed Aaron into the study at the far end of the second floor.
As Aaron fiddled with the communicator, it glowed blue.
—Larien, you’re safe! Have you arrived in Le Cach?
Count Boston’s voice soon came through the device.
“Yes, Maternal Uncle. I’ve just arrived and come to the villa.”
—Thank goodness. I heard the guest wing you were staying in caught fire—what happened? I nearly had a heart attack, but then I saw your ticket had been used and finally calmed down.
“I set the fire myself when I escaped. I’m sorry I couldn’t inform you beforehand.”
From the other end, Count Boston let out a hearty, satisfied laugh.
—No, that’s perfect for erasing any trace. As long as you’re unharmed, that’s all that matters.
“How is the Bellaste Ducal household faring?”
—Everyone assumed you’d perished in the flames. I was about to file a missing persons report, but the Duchess insisted against it… She clearly wanted you declared dead outright… Tsk.
‘So her apology back then was a lie after all.’
A bitter taste filled my mouth for no good reason.
Perhaps it was because I’d erased “Larien Bellaste” from this world.
‘By setting that fire, I’ve essentially killed Larien all over again…’
Not only had I stolen her body, I hadn’t even let her live properly.
—Larien, are you all right?
“Yes. Don’t worry, Maternal Uncle. I actually feel rather liberated!”
I deliberately raised my tone so Count Boston wouldn’t worry further.
But I couldn’t stop the tears—so I bit down hard on my lip.
“Count, the connection isn’t clear. I’ll contact you again later.”
Click—
Aaron, who had been silently watching, abruptly cut the call. I shot him a stunned look.
“Wh-what did you just do?”
“If you cry, the Count will worry. Wipe your tears first.”
Thanks to Aaron’s brusque tone as he handed me a handkerchief, I wiped my tears away.
I suddenly wondered how Aaron had ended up as Count Boston’s subordinate and trade house proxy.
‘He clearly holds deep loyalty toward Maternal Uncle.’
It was astonishing that someone who wouldn’t even serve the Emperor would faithfully follow Count Boston.
“May I ask… how you ended up in Le Cach?”
Aaron hesitated briefly, then confessed in a bitter voice.
“My father was captain of the imperial bodyguard. He died protecting the Emperor, yet the Emperor dishonored his death.”
Rage toward the Emperor surged unmistakably in Aaron’s voice.
“…So you tried to kill the Emperor to avenge your father.”
Now I understood why he’d held a blade to the Emperor’s throat.
“Yes. I failed, of course. On the day I resigned myself to the executioner’s block, the Count—my father’s acquaintance—saved me.”
Aaron bowed deeply toward me.
“A-Aaron?”
“The Count instructed me to raise you as Boston’s heir. From now on, I shall address you as Viscountess. Please take care of me, Viscountess.”
Hearing Aaron’s changed form of address, I finally understood.
From now on, I would live as Boston’s Viscountess.
“I’ll also rely on you, Aaron.”
Though I was merely stepping into Diane’s place, the responsibility weighed heavily upon me.
[This is the timeline separator]A pitch-black bedroom, not a sliver of sunlight able to sneak in.
Empty bottles littered the floor, the air thick with the stench of alcohol, and every curtain was tightly drawn—making it impossible to tell whether it was day or night.
“…!”
Jade jolted awake once again today, drenched in cold sweat from a nightmare. He reached for the wine bottle on his desk.

He popped the cork and gulped down the wine.
If he didn’t drink—if his mind stayed clear—he would see Larien dying before his eyes.
‘How long has it been since Larien died?’
He couldn’t even tell how many months he’d lived like this.
Jade had shut himself inside this darkness, blocking out every trace of light behind thick curtains. He believed he didn’t deserve to see the light after causing Larien’s death.
His younger sister’s pleas for him to snap out of it and stop destroying himself fell on deaf ears.
When he’d rushed to the villa after hearing it had caught fire, the sight that greeted him was horrifying.
The guest wing was charred black, filled only with acrid smoke.
Scorched marks spread everywhere.
Larien was nowhere to be seen.
Only the ashes of her cherished dresses lay scattered.
The floor still radiated heat from the fire.
The thought that Larien had drawn her last breath in such a place drove him to madness.
Pregnant Larien had struggled to control her beast form due to hormonal imbalance.
She must have transformed into a sparrow and burned to death—leaving no body behind.
This undeniable truth—that she’d been consumed by flames—had shattered Jade beyond repair.
…Just when he couldn’t bring himself to believe Larien was truly gone,
a letter from her arrived on the third day.
It read:
Had I heard the news?
Though we could never see each other or be together again, she’d never forget the time we shared.
Her final farewell ended with gratitude—for letting her be his friend.
Reading the letter, Jade realized Larien had chosen death herself. From that moment on, he began hearing Larien’s ghostly voice.
Begging him to save her. Yet Jade could not rescue Larien—already dead.
If only he hadn’t torn up her train ticket, she wouldn’t have died.
His attempt to stop her—to keep her by his side—had led to this horrific outcome.
He’d cornered her into a situation where death was her only escape.
He’d ignored Larien’s desperate pleas for help. She’d always said pain was the worst thing in the world—how terrified must she have been, burning in those flames?
Larien had been right—“We should’ve stayed just close enough.”
She’d planned to flee to another country and live happily.
Because he’d overstepped—because he’d greedily reached for someone he shouldn’t have—Larien had died.
He missed her so desperately it drove him mad.
Even though he had no right to long for her—still, he dared.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
