Postponing Divorce (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 15
While on her way to meet Kyeong Hee, Chae Yoon had tried to guess what unpleasant rumors she might have heard.
“Seeing another man” hadn’t even crossed her mind—so why was Kyeong Hee bringing it up now?
Though puzzled and flustered, Chae Yoon suppressed any sign of agitation and replied calmly.
“No. I’m not seeing anyone else.”
“Really? Then why are these rumors spreading?”
Her chest sank with a cold chill. Rumors?
“I don’t understand what you mean…”
Seeing the uneasy tremor in Chae Yoon’s clear eyes, Kyeong Hee took a sip of wine before answering.
“I heard there’s gossip going around lately that Han Jae Oh’s wife is having an affair.”
Shadows fell over Chae Yoon’s pale face.
Kyeong Hee’s eyes briefly flickered with satisfaction at Chae Yoon’s sudden darkening expression—but only for a moment.
“I heard it from a close acquaintance, so I’m not sure exactly where it started, but rumors like that don’t just appear out of nowhere, right? That’s why I wanted to check in person. It’s been bothering me.”
The photo Jae Oh had shown her flashed through her mind. Chae Yoon’s expression visibly worsened.
“Chae Yoon.”
Chae Yoon turned her stiff gaze toward Kyeong Hee.
“You can be honest with me. Are you really not seeing another man?”
“No. I’m not.”
When Chae Yoon firmly denied it, Kyeong Hee frowned and let out an irritated sigh.
“Then why on earth are these rumors spreading?”
With an exasperated sigh, Kyeong Hee leaned back in her chair. Chae Yoon watched her expression carefully.
Though they hadn’t interacted much, Kyeong Hee had always been warm and kind whenever they met.
Ji Pil had even once told her to rely on Kyeong Hee and Jung Woong after he was gone, so to Chae Yoon, Kyeong Hee was practically a mother-in-law.
Seeing this woman fret needlessly because of her made a tender part of Chae Yoon’s heart ache uncomfortably.
‘I think I should just tell her.’
Chae Yoon, quietly organizing her thoughts, reached for the water glass in front of her.
After moistening her parched mouth with cold water, she finally spoke about what had happened with Hyun Min.
“There’s an Assistant Manager who’s helped me a lot since I joined the company…”
Starting from there, Chae Yoon explained in detail everything up to how Hyun Min and Eun Ha began dating.
When Chae Yoon finished speaking, Kyeong Hee gave a small nod of understanding.
“So that’s why those rumors started.”
“…I never even thought being seen with Eun Ha would look like that.”
Just as she’d told Kyeong Hee, Chae Yoon had never imagined the rumor would spread widely enough to reach her ears.
Though Jae Oh’s marriage had been a topic of discussion, they hadn’t held a wedding ceremony, so only a handful of people even knew what she looked like.
Thus, she’d felt no need to restrict her behavior—and that carelessness had led to this mess.
Feeling guilty toward both Kyeong Hee, who now had to worry over baseless gossip, and Ji Pil, Chae Yoon sincerely apologized with a somber face.
“I’m sorry.”
Seeing Chae Yoon’s pained expression, Kyeong Hee softened her tone and gently consoled her.
“No, these things happen.”
“…”
“I was just concerned because it sounded like you were being wrongly accused. But now that I know the full story, it’s fine. The rumors will die down on their own as long as you and Jae Oh are doing well.”
At Kyeong Hee’s last sentence, Chae Yoon’s already gloomy expression darkened further.
Noticing Chae Yoon’s furrowed brows and her tightly bitten lower lip, Kyeong Hee’s eyes narrowed slightly.
She knew exactly why Chae Yoon was reacting this way—but she had to pretend ignorance.
So, just as she always had, Kyeong Hee asked in a tone full of concern.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, it’s just…”
“What is it? Did something happen?”
Chae Yoon struggled to move her stiff, heavy lips.
“I… asked my husband for a divorce.”
The exact topic she’d been steering toward had finally surfaced. Kyeong Hee’s lips briefly curved in satisfaction—but only for an instant.

Quickly composing herself, Kyeong Hee exclaimed in feigned shock.
“What? What do you mean? Why!”
“I just feel it’s time to end things.”
Kyeong Hee let out a series of staggered breaths.
“Does Father know about this?”
“Yes.”
“You’re really serious about divorcing?”
“…Yes.”
Though softly spoken, the resolve behind her words was firm.
“What did Jae Oh say?”
“He hasn’t said much yet.”
“Really? Ah, so today’s meeting…”
“Yes. I think he suggested meeting to talk about the divorce.”
Kyeong Hee’s eyes flickered faintly.
‘So Jae Oh was the one who initiated the meeting.’
He’d even canceled his own schedule for it.
‘That does seem a bit odd.’
Ho Yeon’s earlier comment about Jae Oh acting strangely now carried more weight.
Just then, a message arrived on Kyeong Hee’s phone on the table.
Though the content wasn’t visible, Kyeong Hee—who knew what it said without reading it—checked the time.
‘Time to wrap this up.’
Realizing it was time to leave, Kyeong Hee fixed her gaze on Chae Yoon.
“I’m in no position to question your decision, and you’re not the kind to act without thinking… I trust you’ve made the right choice.”
Hearing Kyeong Hee respect her decision, Chae Yoon faintly softened her tense lips.
“Thank you.”
“But divorce isn’t simple—especially when it involves intertwined company interests like yours and Jae Oh’s. You know that, right?”
“Yes.”
“If you need any help during the process, don’t hesitate to contact me. And about the rumors… I’ll do what I can to prevent them from spreading further. But you’ll have to accept that some damage is unavoidable.”
“I understand. Thank you. But I have one question.”
“What is it?”
“Assistant Manager Lim’s personal information—nothing’s leaked, right?”
This mess was entirely due to her own carelessness. Unable to stand the thought of Hyun Min suffering because of her, Chae Yoon made her first request to Kyeong Hee.
“I’ll be fine, but please, little mother, help ensure Assistant Manager Lim isn’t harmed.”
“Alright. Don’t worry too much.”
Feeling a small knot in her chest loosen at Kyeong Hee’s reassurance, Chae Yoon spoke sincerely.
“Thank you for looking out for me.”
Kyeong Hee offered a gentle smile and neatly concluded the conversation.
“I have some things to consider, and someone’s asked to meet me, so I’ll leave first. You finish your meal when it arrives, understood?”
Though she had no appetite, Chae Yoon agreed for now.
“Then I’ll see you again when you’re free?”
“Yes. Please take care.”
After exchanging farewells, Kyeong Hee left.
Alone at the table, Chae Yoon slumped back in her chair and let out a long sigh, her body finally relaxing from tension.
Ever since telling Jae Oh about the divorce, one unfortunate thing after another seemed to happen.
“I miss Dad.”
She’d visited his grave just yesterday, yet whenever she felt overwhelmed, she always longed for Hae Sang.
Feeling downhearted, Chae Yoon reached for the wine glass in front of her.
Though she rarely drank, her unsettled mind made the wine go down surprisingly smoothly.
How long had she been sitting there alone, sipping quietly?
“Hello.”

A stranger’s voice jolted Chae Yoon from her daze.
She lifted her head to look toward the source of the sound.
Standing beside her table was an unfamiliar man.
Confused by the situation, she stared at him blankly—until their eyes met, and the man offered a charming smile.
“You’ve been here a few times before, haven’t you?”
Her wide, clear eyes grew even larger in surprise.
He was right—she’d come here several times with Eun Ha, Hyun Min, and friends.
But how did this stranger know that?
“Yes, but why…”
“I’ve had my eye on you for a while now.”
His words made her eyes widen even more.
Noticing her reaction, the man’s smile grew even more pleasant—a friendly, approachable expression.
“Do you mind if I sit here?”
As if believing that smile was his ticket, the man moved to take a seat.
Chae Yoon quickly waved her hand to stop him.
“No, I’m about to leave soon.”
She’d clearly meant to refuse him—but either he didn’t understand or chose to ignore it, because he responded with an awkward suggestion.
“Oh, then shall we talk somewhere else?”
Disapproval clouded her eyes as she stared at him. Slightly unnerved, Chae Yoon decided to end things plainly and directly.
“Excuse me.”
“Yes?”
“I’m married.”
She expected him to leave upon hearing that—but the man remained perfectly calm.
“That’s alright. You’ll be divorced soon, won’t you?”
This time, Chae Yoon wasn’t just surprised—she was stunned.
How could he possibly know?
“You seem really shocked. Don’t worry—I overheard your conversation just now. If it upset you, I apologize.”
“Oh…”
Since they weren’t in a private room but an open space, it was plausible he’d heard something. But that wasn’t the issue right now.
She needed to get rid of him—so Chae Yoon issued another refusal.
“I guess you didn’t hear me say I already have someone I like.”
That part hadn’t come up in her conversation with Kyeong Hee. But since their tables hadn’t been close enough for every word to carry clearly, Chae Yoon stated it calmly—and truthfully.
Yet the man just smiled again.
A bad feeling crept into her mind.
“That sounds like a really made-up excuse.”
Her ominous hunch proved correct.
Usually, people backed off by now—so why was this man so persistent?
She realized she’d run into someone strange.
‘What should I do?’
Beyond flustered, Chae Yoon now felt genuinely afraid and scrambled for a way out.
But her panicked mind refused to function clearly.
The only name that came to mind was “Han Jae Oh,” so she looked at her phone on the table.
‘Should I call him?’
That seemed like the best option.
‘If he hears my husband’s voice and still won’t back off, I’ll just call the police.’
Having made up her mind, Chae Yoon reached for her phone.
And at that exact moment, a low, familiar voice filled her thoughts.
“Honey. What are you doing here.”

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!
The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.
That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”
Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”
The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”
That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”
Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”
The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.
Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.
“She was originally a ‘she’!”
At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.
The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
