Seeing Chae Yoon walk out of the conference room, tears welling in the corners of her eyes, without looking back at Jae Oh—who stood stunned and speechless after hearing her admit it was right for her to see another man.

She looked around hurriedly, desperate to hold back her tears before they spilled over.

Luckily, there was a restroom nearby. Hurrying inside, Chae Yoon checked that no one was there and slipped into an empty stall.

The moment she locked the door and sat down on the toilet seat with the lid closed, her tears began falling steadily.

“Huh….”

Her heart ached unbearably.

Before, she’d only felt disappointed that Jae Oh never understood her feelings and frustrated by their stagnant situation—but now, it simply hurt, deeply and purely.

Even if we never really talked much.

Even if Han Jae Oh didn’t consider me important, I’d known him for nearly ten years. We’d even shared the same space for three of those years.

At the very least, I thought he’d pretend to believe me when I said there was nothing between Hyun Min and me.

[“So you drank so much you could barely walk, and he walked you all the way home?”]

I didn’t expect him to sneer like that. I thought he’d listen to me first—but now it seemed even the trust I felt from our ten-year bond was just another illusion of mine, and the pain tightened in my chest.

“Sigh….”

Since I’d already decided on divorce, I couldn’t keep contacting him like this—but I still wanted us to part ways amicably.

After all, they were the ones who reached out to me when I was truly struggling.

Even if I couldn’t repay them in other ways, I wanted to at least show gratitude for their kindness toward me….

Why can’t even that happen?

“You’re terrible.”

Muttering “Han Jae Oh, you’re really terrible,” Chae Yoon wiped away the tears streaming down her cheeks.

Her fingertips, damp with tears, grew cold faster than usual.

The chilling temperature reminded her of the growing distance between Jae Oh and herself, so Chae Yoon bit her lip hard and clenched her fingers tightly.

Not once had she ever regretted falling for a man named Han Jae Oh.

But now, she resented her past self—who had so readily agreed to marry him just because he claimed divorce wasn’t something he’d ever suggest.

If only I’d been a little wiser.

If only, instead of immediately accepting his proposal, I’d asked for more time—wouldn’t things between us have turned out better? Then I could’ve visited Ji Pil and Jae Oh whenever I wanted, just like before….

Just as these futile “what-ifs” began chasing each other in her mind,

Zzzzzzzing.

Her phone, tucked in the pocket of her tweed jacket, vibrated long and loud.

「Grandfather」

Chae Yoon’s eyes flickered as she saw the name glowing brightly on the screen.

The timing of this call from Ji Pil meant he’d already heard her admission—that she was indeed seeing Hyun Min.

‘It hasn’t even been that long since I said it—already…?’

Amazed—but not pleasantly so—by Jae Oh’s swift action, Chae Yoon let her lips droop helplessly before tapping the answer button with trembling fingers.

“So that’s how it is….”

– Yes. Madam left first, and the managing director is still inside the conference room.

“How did Chae Yoon look?”

– …She didn’t look well.

Ji Pil’s expression crumpled.

“I see. From now on, if Jae Oh continues acting strangely or anything unusual happens, contact me immediately.”

– Yes, Chairman.

After ending the call with Woo Jong, Ji Pil let out a long sigh.

“I thought that if they just talked, something might finally clear up.”

That was exactly why he hadn’t contacted Chae Yoon even after seeing Jae Oh storm out with a murderous look and a photograph in hand.

He’d silently waited, believing that if Jae Oh—acting so unlike himself—spoke with Chae Yoon, things might somehow resolve. But instead, everything had gone in the opposite direction of his hopes.

Feeling a wave of helplessness, Ji Pil clicked his tongue and called Chae Yoon.

– Yes, Grandfather.

Her voice, arriving after a long ring, was choked—so clearly tearful that Ji Pil’s brow furrowed even deeper.

‘What on earth did that boy say this time?’

Suppressing the sigh that threatened to escape, Ji Pil softened his voice with deliberate warmth.

“What are you doing right now? Can you talk to your grandfather for a bit?”

– …Yes. I’ll be right there.

Hearing her try so hard to sound fine weighed heavily on Ji Pil’s heart.

A few minutes later.

Knock knock.

Chae Yoon appeared at the door.

“Oh. Chae Yoon’s here…”

As Ji Pil rose to his feet, Chae Yoon’s eyes began to distort as she watched him greet her with the same gentle, familiar expression as always.

Noticing the tears welling in Chae Yoon’s eyes, Ji Pil slowed his steps.

“Chae Yoon…?”

At the sound of her name, spoken so tenderly, Chae Yoon finally broke down sobbing.

When Chae Yoon began crying uncontrollably, Ji Pil paused briefly, waiting patiently for her tears to subside.

After a while,

Her emotions, which had surged uncontrollably the moment she saw Ji Pil, gradually settled. Wiping the tears from both cheeks, Chae Yoon spoke.

“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry, Grandfather.”

Interpreting her apology as regret over telling Jae Oh she wanted a divorce, Ji Pil gently patted her back.

“It’s all right. It’s okay—stop crying and come sit over here, alright?”

Only then did Chae Yoon finally move, and the two of them sat down on the sofa.

“You told Jae Oh you wanted a divorce, didn’t you?”

Ji Pil gently broached the subject as he watched Chae Yoon dabbing her tears with a tissue.

Her tear-drenched eyes turned toward him.

Though she didn’t know how Jae Oh had relayed the conversation, since she really had proposed divorce, Chae Yoon gave a small nod.

“Yes.”

“This is a decision you’ve thought about a lot, isn’t it?”

“…Yes.”

Her voice trembled faintly at the end.

Seeing her shoulders quake as delicately as her voice, and her face far darker than usual, Ji Pil felt he understood their entire exchange—without even needing to ask what Jae Oh had said to her.

‘That damn brat couldn’t suppress his skewed temper again, could he?’

Jae Oh was usually level-headed about work matters, but the moment personal emotions got involved, he’d twist things in strange ways—especially with Jung Woong. Ji Pil never imagined this tendency would affect Chae Yoon too.

After all, of everyone, Chae Yoon was the one person Jae Oh had at least kept close.

Ji Pil had assumed that even if Jae Oh acted a little moody, he wouldn’t derail the conversation entirely—but apparently, that had been his own misjudgment.

Gnawing bitterly on his earlier failure to call Chae Yoon first, Ji Pil sighed deeply and nodded slowly.

“I understand.”

It was an answer he hadn’t expected to come so easily.

Startled by Ji Pil’s immediate acceptance, Chae Yoon widened her eyes and stared at him.

Meeting her shocked gaze, Ji Pil offered a kind smile.

“You’ve suffered enough in silence. From now on, live your life the way you want.”

His expression clearly said: No matter what you do, I’ll always support you.

Chae Yoon blinked in confusion.

‘Is that really all he’s going to say?’

Ji Pil wasn’t scolding her about why she’d allowed that photo to be taken, nor did he mention Hyun Min at all.

Wondering if perhaps he hadn’t heard everything from Jae Oh after all, Chae Yoon swallowed hard and asked,

“Did you… not hear anything from Oppa?”

From the moment she walked in apologizing tearfully, Ji Pil had vaguely sensed it—but now, her question confirmed it.

Chae Yoon had told Jae Oh she was seeing the man in that photo.

Yet Ji Pil had no intention of reproaching her for it or demanding to know how it had happened.

“What do you mean?”

Since he played completely clueless, Chae Yoon added,

“I….”

“Chae Yoon.”

Cutting her off gently, Ji Pil continued with that same warm smile from before.

“If people’s hearts always followed their will, would problems even arise?”

“…”

“You’ve done more than enough.”

More than enough?

‘Could it be…?’

“You… already knew?”

“How could I not? Your eyes have always followed only Jae Oh.”

Ever since Hae Sang first told him about Chae Yoon’s feelings, whenever Jae Oh was home, Chae Yoon’s gaze had never left him.

Then, at some point, she stopped looking at him directly—only offering bitter smiles when she did—and finally, the talk of divorce began.

Though she’d only met the man in the photo after joining the company—so not long ago—Ji Pil had sensed her exhaustion well before that. Thus, he had no desire to scold her.

In fact, he felt relieved. At her age—still so beautifully young—it would’ve been a waste for her to keep clinging to a meaningless marriage, staring only at that indifferent man’s back.

Holding onto her just for the sake of his grandson would’ve been disrespectful to Hae Sang, who’d already passed, so Ji Pil chose to respect Chae Yoon’s decision.

“So from now on, stop tormenting yourself. Do what you want, meet someone good—live fully.”

Hearing those words, Chae Yoon instantly realized Ji Pil had known everything all along.

‘And yet….’

Grateful yet guilty that he supported her without a word of complaint, tears once again filled Chae Yoon’s eyes.

“I’m sorry, Grandfather….”

It was all she could say.

“I told you it’s alright.”

Hearing his gentle voice, Chae Yoon broke down again, crying for a long while right in front of Ji Pil.

Meanwhile, left alone in the conference room after Chae Yoon left, Jae Oh remained motionless for a long time.

[“I’m not involved with Assistant Manager Lim like that.”]

He’d expected her to deny it to the end.

Instead, what he got was her final admission that it was true.

Even before meeting Chae Yoon, he’d already assumed they were seeing each other—if not, why would she smile so brightly at that guy? Yet when she actually admitted it, it felt as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over his head.

The relief he’d felt at her initial denial vanished instantly, replaced entirely by suffocating anger and betrayal.

Because of it, Jae Oh still couldn’t think clearly.

A dull ache started spreading through his head, and he pressed his fingers hard against his throbbing temples.

“Ugh….”

He tried taking deep breaths to clear his agitated mind—but it was useless.

He didn’t understand why he felt so betrayed and furious.

‘What right do I have…?’

Just like Ji Pil and Chae Yoon said—he was merely a husband in name only—so why was he this angry…?

Jae Oh felt bewildered by the intensity of his own unfamiliar, turbulent emotions.

He’d had better control over himself even when he learned Kyeong Hee had only stayed with him for money.

Irritation pooled at the corners of his narrowed eyes.

‘Ugh, why am I like this? Seriously.’

Amid this storm of emotions that refused to settle, he wondered—had he trusted Chae Yoon this much without even realizing it? Otherwise, how else could he explain feeling betrayal this deeply?

Confronting this inexplicable shift in his feelings, Jae Oh thought about Chae Yoon for the first time.

‘Song Chae Yoon.’

His eyes darkened as he silently repeated her full name.

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
