Please Marry My Son (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 13
Having nearly circled the entire garden greeting the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester’s acquaintances, Alicia had reached the point where she couldn’t even tell who was who anymore.
In the end, she followed Eric’s advice—slowly nodding her head and responding only with a polite smile.
Watching her, Eric whispered softly with the same expression.
“Not a bad method, is it?”
“Well, yes, but you know that thing—like a doll stupidly smiling and just nodding its head. Doesn’t it look like one of those sets?”
“Who cares? Just doing this much should be enough to be grateful for.”
“They’ll hear you.”
Alicia scolded him lightly, tapping Eric’s arm.
But after about thirty minutes, Alicia herself began to feel tired.
“Jal heu geu seu. Jeu geu meu deu geu neu.” (You’re doing great. Just hang in there a little longer.)
“Eun jeu keu seu heu eu yo?” (How much longer do we have to do this?)
“Neu deu ju geu geu geu.” (I feel like I’m going to die too.)
They asked and answered each other with tightly closed mouths.
Though they no longer had the strength even to nod, their faces still bore smiles.
Only after completing a full round did the Duke and Duchess seem satisfied and finally let the two go.
“Now go enjoy yourselves at your leisure. We won’t disturb you anymore.”
“Yes, take a quiet stroll together. The flowers have bloomed beautifully.”
“Then shall we meet again when it’s time to leave?”
“Meet? Nonsense. Go back however you like. Our business is done, so do whatever you want here or elsewhere—we won’t interfere.”
“Understood… huh?”
Leaving behind a bewildered Eric and Alicia who repeated the question, the Duke and Duchess walked away, chuckling.
After standing dazed for a moment, Eric quickly grabbed Alicia’s hand and pulled her along.
“Let’s hurry. Before they change their minds.”
They hurried off in the opposite direction from the Duke and Duchess, escaping the spot.
Finally, the hardest part was over.
[This is the timeline separator]Once they were far enough away to feel safe and alone together, they both let out a sigh of relief.
Feeling strangely uneasy—as if drained by some odd discomfort, perhaps because the imperial palace was unfamiliar—Alicia took a deep breath to steady herself.
“You worked hard.”
“You worked hard too, Eric.”
“Let’s relax a bit now.”
“Shall we sit somewhere?”
“Are you sure you’re alright? You look pale.”
“I’ll feel better after resting a bit.”
“Let’s go sit over there.”
Eric glanced around and headed toward a table set up in a corner of the garden.
It looked like a good place to rest—quiet enough and shaded.
“Oh. Um.”
Only upon reaching the table did Eric realize he’d been holding Alicia’s hand the whole time, and he awkwardly let go.
“It’s fine. We looked like proper fiancés.”
“As long as it seemed that way. Sit down first. Should I get something cool to drink?”
“Yes, please.”
“Then wait here a moment. I’ll bring it. Anything else you need?”
“Hmm… just something to drink is enough.”
“Got it. Rest for a bit.”
While Eric went to fetch drinks, Alicia sat down and looked around.
‘Why did I feel that way?’
The imperial palace was magnificent, the garden beautiful, and the people seemed cheerful.
Though she didn’t particularly like crowded places, it was a novel experience, and Alicia had enjoyed it.
So it felt odd to blame her unease simply on unfamiliarity.

Just then, Eric returned with a cool cocktail and handed it to Alicia.
“How is it?”
“It’s delicious. How about yours, Eric?”
“Eh, it’s alright.”
“Not good?”
“It’s a bit too sweet.”
“Want to switch? Mine isn’t sweet.”
Alicia swapped glasses with Eric.
“Yeah, this one’s better.”
Eric took a sip and nodded.
Truthfully, plain alcohol would’ve been preferable to cocktails, but he had no choice.
“You two have impressive stamina.”
“Right?”
They looked with amazement at their parents, who were still walking around.
“They seem to be holding up better than expected—though they do look tired.”
“It’s not bad. The weather’s nice, people are kind, the flowers are lovely. And—”
“?”
He smiled, saying it was nothing.
He’d claimed to dislike such gatherings and had little experience with them, yet he turned out to be surprisingly dependable.
He’d quickly noticed her tension, and she was grateful he’d kept holding her hand and comforted her.
“I just don’t understand why they gather everyone just to look at flowers.”
“But seeing pretty things lifts your mood, doesn’t it?”
“Hmm. Then which flower do you like?”
“Huh?”
“Out of so many, which one?”
“Oh… I’m not sure.”
After glancing around briefly, she pointed to some lily of the valley.
“If I had to pick, maybe something like that?”
“Ah, that kind. It suits you.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. More than that kind.”
When Alicia followed Eric’s gaze, she saw a gorgeously blooming double rose.
“Don’t showy flowers suit me?”
“Hm?”
Alicia had asked casually, yet something about it felt off, and she fell silent.
A strong sense that she’d made a mistake washed over her.
“It’s not that it doesn’t suit you—it’s more…”
“More what?”
“It’s just… I feel the mood of this one fits you better, somehow…”
“And?”
“Maybe I don’t really care either way?”
“You don’t care? So you’re saying you’re not interested at all?”
“No, that’s not it—I just mean anything’s fine.”
“Anything’s fine? So it really doesn’t matter to you?”
She seemed teasing, yet displeased, and her cheerful smile made Alicia, at that moment, more incomprehensible to Eric than the relationship between geometry and aesthetics.
While Eric floundered helplessly, someone called out.
“Earl Russell.”
Relieved, thinking he’d been rescued from a crisis, Eric turned toward the voice—but to his surprise, it was Prince Harry who’d spoken.
“Your Highness.”
Eric and Alicia rose from their seats to bow, and Harry gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.

“Enjoying yourselves?”
“Of course, Your Highness. Shall I introduce my fiancée?”
Smiling faintly, Eric pulled Alicia toward him by the hand.
Startled by being dragged over so abruptly, Alicia quickly composed herself and smiled.
Harry glanced briefly at the hand Eric was holding, then turned to Alicia.
“No need for introductions—I’ll count the one from earlier. But is this our first meeting, Miss Alicia Lancaster?”
“Yes, I believe so, Your Highness.”
“I see.”
Watching Prince Harry mutter to himself, Alicia felt uneasy and tightened her grip on Eric’s hand.
“I hope we meet often from now on. Oh, and congratulations on your engagement.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“Then.”
Annoyed that Harry didn’t even glance his way when bidding farewell, Eric spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
“I heard you’ll be joining the joint training preparations—things must get busy for you soon, Your Highness?”
“Well, I doubt I’ll be the busy one. Earl Russell will be busy.”
“It’s just work for me. I’m counting on your great assistance, Your Highness.”
“Don’t involve me unnecessarily. My elder brother will handle it.”
Indifferently replying, Harry turned back to Alicia.
“Then until next time.”
Once Harry had walked away, Alicia let out a relieved sigh as if her tension had lifted.
“Alicia?”
“I’m fine. I must’ve been nervous. It’s my first time talking so long with royalty. Guess I’ve risen in the world, huh?”
When Alicia laughed, Eric watched her for a moment, then smiled too.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Nodding, Alicia turned her gaze straight ahead.
She smiled as if nothing were wrong—but in truth, it wasn’t.
‘What was that chill just now?’
Afraid Eric might notice, she forced a smile and rubbed her opposite arm with one hand.
It felt as if someone had meticulously scanned her from head to toe.
Eric watched her, frowning slightly.
‘It probably wasn’t because of that.’
He himself had noticed Harry’s strange gaze—Alicia couldn’t possibly have missed it.
But if she didn’t want to talk about it, all he could do for now was play along.
“No need to be so nervous. Royalty are people too.”
“Oh, speaks the experienced one.”
“Excuse me, you two.”
“Prince William.”
“I finally managed to greet you. You’re so popular it’s been hard to find an opening.”
The moment he saw William grinning playfully, Eric whispered to Alicia.
“Alicia, there are approachable royals too.”
“Huh?”
“Get used to that guy.”
At Eric’s teasing tone, Alicia glanced at him, then turned to William.
Seeing William beaming cheerfully at them, she suddenly burst into laughter.
“?”
“I’m sorry, Your Highness.”
After watching Alicia laugh at the sight of him for a moment in confusion, William extended his hand toward her.
Then, taking her offered hand, he kissed the back lightly and grinned.
“So it’s you.”

“?”
“Yes, my fiancée, whom you’ve been so curious about.”
“Ah. Truly a pleasure to meet you.”
William scolded Eric lightly, then smiled warmly at Alicia again.
“I hope you’re having a pleasant time.”
“Yes, we are, Your Highness.”
“How delightful.”
“…”
“What’s that look for, Earl Russell?”
“Nothing. It’s just… I’ve never seen you so serious before.”
“You—what on earth do you think I am?”
After staring at Eric’s amused expression with disbelief, William turned to Alicia.
“You were talking to Harry earlier?”
“Oh, yes. We exchanged greetings.”
“Don’t worry too much about it.”
“Huh?”
William smiled apologetically.
“Harry’s just quiet and looks gloomy—but he’s not a bad person.”
“No, I didn’t think that at all, Your Highness.”
“It’s fine. I know he’s often misunderstood. Though I doubt many would believe me even if I said so.”
Alicia well understood the subtle dynamics between the princes.
Yet William, who went out of his way to speak kindly of Harry, seemed like a decent person.
“Besides, this fellow here seems quite fond of his fiancée—last time, he nearly killed Harry just for mentioning her—”
“For heaven’s sake, shut your mouth!”
Seeing Eric flare up, William chuckled, then grew serious.
“Then again, you shouldn’t be worrying about Harry right now. There are so many people here—if rumors about you start spreading—”
“Your Highness!”
“?”
Confused, Alicia looked back and forth between the flustered Eric and the chuckling William.
“Alright, alright. I’ll stop.”
“Haven’t you already said almost everything?”
“No, not at all. There’s still plenty left.”
“……”
“Fine, fine. I’ll stop.”
William chuckled, then stopped laughing and spoke seriously.
“Eric. Can I talk to you alone for a moment?”

I love how they interact with each other. They feel at ease together.
Hahaha. The butler’s perfect timing. And Erik hiding his face.
Maybe I’m really wrong about it, but I think Alicia has something to do with what happened ten years ago and maybe her father is the leader of that group.
