“Do you like math?”
“Eh? No, not really.”
“Then I suppose you’re not interested in swordsmanship either. What about the color black?”
“Eh?”
“Do you know a bit about monsters or magic?”
“Eh?”
The man emotionlessly set down his teacup.
The woman who had initially sat demurely with a shy expression couldn’t hide her bewildered look.
“That’s a pity. We don’t share any interests. We’ll be spending a lifetime together, shouldn’t we at least have something to talk about?”
The woman sitting across from him flushed brightly.
“It seems like a waste of time. Shall we get up?”
The man left her alone and walked away slowly.
As he was walking down the hallway, he encountered a woman struggling alone with a stack of documents so high it obscured her face.
“Ah, excuse me for a moment.”
After asking for permission, he opened the door for her, and she entered with a word of thanks.
“Thank you.”
“……”
When he opened the door, he saw that the stack of documents looked large and heavy. His innate manners made him feel uncomfortable just walking away, so he asked.
“Should I help you carry that?”
“No, I’m fine. Could you please close the door for me, though?”
“Ah, yes.”
“Thank you.”
He closed the door as soon as she entered and casually resumed walking.
‘I wish I could just go back.’
However, he knew it would be a hassle if he didn’t report the result to his parents.
But if he reported, he would inevitably face a storm of nagging.
He could already see his father’s anger and his mother’s suffering in his mind’s eye.
‘How many times do I have to say to stop this useless charade.’
In frustration and annoyance, he finally loosened his tie.
Eric Russel Gloster.
The heir to the Gloster Duchy and the commander of the Second Knights Division, holding the title of Count Russel himself.
Highly skilled, goodlooking. Everything about his future looked bright, and there were no words of praise that could possibly be insufficient. He was recognized by everyone as Britannia’s number one bachelor.
However, his personality was the worst or even subpar.
His nicknames ranged from the Black Lion of Britannia, Britannia’s 3%, to the catastrophe from hell.
Regardless of being a topic of interest in a good or bad way, he was the center of discussion within the empire.
Today, he turned down an unknown number (he had long since given up counting) of matrimonial meetings.
[Star Icon][Star Icon][Star Icon]“That damned son of mine!!”
The Duke of Gloster finally screamed.
His face was so red, he thought it might burst.
“I’m going to die, I have to die”
The Duchess of Gloster moaned as she clutched her head and collapsed onto the sofa.
However, he had anticipated this situation from his previous experiences.
So it would have been best if he just kept his mouth shut.
“I clearly stated that I had no interest.”
He added a word, even though it was not the first time this had happened.
“What, you brat!!”
“Oh my, oh my.”
The Duke of Gloster’s shouting and the Duchess’s moaning increased.
“I even told you not to waste your time.”
“Youuuu!!!”
“Ugh.”
The Duke of Gloster began shaking from anger, and the Duchess moaned louder, as if her chest was about to explode.
The butler standing next to them thought, ‘As usual.’
But Eric drank the tea the butler gave him without any change in his expression.
“Butler. The tea tastes especially good today, doesn’t it?”
“It’s the Orange Silet you like, sir. I prepared it since you said you were coming today.”
“You remembered. Thank you, Butler.”
Seeing his leisurely son sipping tea, the Duke became even more furious.
“So, why don’t you like this one? Let’s hear the story.”
“We couldn’t communicate at all.”
“Communication? What communication?”
“She didn’t like math.”
“……What?”
‘What’s he talking about? Suddenly about math? How many people like math?’
‘No, besides that, who asks if they like math during a meeting, unless they’re crazy?’
Bewildered, he stared at his son.
“She didn’t like swordsmanship either, and she knew nothing about monsters. In short, we had no shared interests.”
“……Is there anyone who can communicate with you, not just a woman, but anyone?”
At that, Eric frowned, but soon shrugged as if acknowledging the point.
That made him even more irritated.
“Do you commit such actions despite knowing they will bring disgrace upon your parents? A lack of shame.”
“Ah.”
“Leave, you brat!”
In the end, Duke Gloucester couldn’t stand it and threw a cushion.
However, his son, who excelled in martial arts, managed to dodge with ease while holding a teacup, not a single drop of tea spilling.
“I’ll be going then.”
After placing the teacup on the table, he casually walked out, leaving the fallen cushion on the sofa.
“Oh dear, oh dear.”
The Duchess of Gloucester’s sobbing could be heard until the door closed, but he didn’t care at all.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
