In the middle of a vast lake shrouded in thick fog, a small figure stood alone.

Warm spring water rippled gently, tickling the soles of her feet. A familiar breeze whispered past like a caress, carrying a scent both comforting and strange—gentle, purified, and achingly reminiscent of her mother’s skin.

Unable to utter the name lingering on her tongue, her wide eyes darted anxiously around.

“Arabella…”

The dark mist before her parted slowly, revealing the dearly missed figure of a woman approaching Arabella.

“M-Mama…?”

She barely managed to call out before clenching her lips shut again.

Every time she’d happily greeted her mother in dreams, she’d woken up immediately. So, desperate to savor just a little more of this moment, she dared not even call out properly.

Tears welled up, blurring her vision, yet she dared not blink—afraid that, just like in her last dream, her mother would vanish the instant she wiped them away.

Her mother, appearing exactly as she had nine years ago when she left Arabella and the family, glided closer and reached out her hand. Though her touch was icy cold, it didn’t matter—nothing had ever felt so warm and tender.

Tears dripped steadily from Arabella’s eyes as she nuzzled her cheek against her mother’s palm.

“I’m sorry, my child. I’m so sorry for leaving you. But we’ll meet again soon—very soon now.”

Her mother’s voice, thick with longing, echoed softly through the humid air.

“We… we can meet? Are you really coming back, Mama? Really…?”
