Picked Up a Beast, Turns Out He's an Emperor (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 24
Emperor Maxwell’s Bedroom
Creak… A faint metallic sound came from behind the crimson cherrywood bookshelf that spanned an entire wall of the bedroom, from floor to ceiling. It was so quiet that without paying close attention—over the crackling of the nearby fireplace—it would have gone unnoticed.
On the seventh shelf, three thick books slid forward, and a rectangular door large enough for two adult men opened within the bookshelf.
Through the gap, a long foot stepped onto the carpet, followed by a tall figure cloaked from head to toe, revealing itself.
Maxwell, having entered the bedroom, pushed the protruding books back into place, and the door vanished seamlessly into the bookshelf without leaving even a trace.
He tossed his cloak onto the armchair, ran his fingers through his fallen bangs, and let out a short sigh.
‘What on earth have I been doing, sneaking around like a night cat?’
Overwhelmed by sudden shame, he roughly rubbed his face with both hands.
The hidden door behind the bookshelf in the Emperor’s bedroom connected to a secret underground passage that led anywhere—inside or outside the palace, even anywhere in the capital. It was a door he had never once used privately to visit a lady’s quarters.
Until now, it had only ever been used for covert excursions or to personally deal with insolent fools who didn’t know their place.
Yet here he was, using that secret passage just to deliver chocolates to a woman—creeping around like a thieving cat, no less.
He winced, recalling how he’d emerged from the door beneath the magnolia tree behind the third pond in the detached palace, nervously glancing around in every direction.
His undignified, frantic legs dashing toward the annex, hiding behind trees for fear of being spotted. At the same time, his careful hands clutching the chocolate box tightly, terrified it might get crushed.
The triumphant fist he clenched when the chocolate box he’d tossed landed safely on the second-floor balcony of the eleventh annex. The dry swallow as he anxiously waited, wondering if she might be asleep and not hear or come out.
His heart pounding wildly when a small figure opened the balcony door and peered into the darkness where he stood.

The demon lord’s eyes were red with fury:
“This is all your doing! Today, I won’t rest until I kill you!”
Yu Wu rubbed her temples. Putting aside the taboo against bloodshed during pregnancy, wasn’t it this very man who willingly walked into her trap that day?!

Is she not concerned because the emperor told her she wasn’t going to become the empress regardless? He explicitly stated she only needed to break his curse & that she wouldn’t become the empress as she wasn’t qualified (I don’t recall his precise wording).
The Emperor’s shamelessness continues to astonish me. Just how long can he get away with this?
