‘You’re clever enough to know how to hide your name.’

I gazed down at the child quietly.

The bright green eyes contrasting with cream-colored hair were sharp, and despite the shabby appearance, the child’s intelligence was unmistakable.

I noticed the talent in the precocity and acuity that did not match the age group.

“Your family?”

“…They passed away in this recent war.”

“…”

As soon as Jeff finished speaking, I was at a loss for words. While a third party might not know, I was the one who started this war, so I was in no position to offer words of comfort. Therefore, there was nothing particular I could say.

“Though scrawny, he’s quite strong. Take him along and have him do odd jobs.”

“Yes, understood.”

One way or another, it’s certain he’ll become a great figure in the future. I decided to take in the little one for now, to look after and observe him. Rather than feeling guilty or trying to atone, I took him in simply because it would be a waste to send him away.

Thus, Jeff, who became part of the household, did better work than expected.

When asked to clean the corridors, he would polish the marble floors until they shone brightly, and other tasks also brought satisfactory results.

And as diligently as he worked, he ate a lot.

* * *

One morning.

“Think of the sword as part of your body!”

I received a report that Jeff had been coming to the area where the soldiers train early in the morning these days. His main activity was said to be hiding behind a tent and secretly watching General Roy directing the soldiers’ training.

“What are you loitering around for? Go do your work.”

“Hey, go fetch some water.”

Even the busy General Roy had noticed Jeff to this extent, and whenever he was caught, the boy would reportedly startle and hurriedly go off to do chores.

General Roy, impressed by the young one’s interest and effort, decided to keep an eye on Jeff after catching him for the fifth time.

“Go deeper! Focus!”

“You should strike sideways!”

The rumors had spread widely among the knights, and at this point, I felt it necessary to check personally as the Emperor, so I decided to go and observe. Looking for the boy from afar, I found Jeff practicing swordsmanship with a tree branch.

“Is this how it’s done?”

Perhaps because it was a quiet clearing, or because my hearing was good, I could hear even his mutterings clearly.

‘Not bad for imitating without a teacher. Though clumsy…’

I rested my chin on one hand, impressed by Jeff’s self-taught swordsmanship that had somewhat proper form. Though it felt awkward without formal instruction, his movements when drawing the sword were plausible. If well-nurtured, he would truly be a talented asset to the empire.

“Hah!”

Swish—

The sound of the branch cutting through the air was unusual, piquing my interest. I thought about possibly granting him a wooden sword soon.

‘Go ahead first.’

Just then, my eyes met with General Roy coming from the training ground, and I gestured for him to go to Jeff. The quick-witted General Roy gave a silent bow and immediately moved.

‘Looks like I won’t need to prepare anything.’

I folded my arms, seeing the wooden practice sword in one of General Roy’s hands.

“Jeff.”

General Roy, approaching Jeff like that, smiled at the boy who dropped his branch in surprise at his appearance and asked.

“Do you want to learn swordsmanship?”

“Yes.”

General Roy had viewed Jeff favorably from before. He laughed heartily and handed Jeff the wooden practice sword he had prepared in advance.

“You have good eyes.”

Seeing Jeff’s eyes fill with firm determination and passion, General Roy was very satisfied, and I too smirked in approval.

“From now on, come here every morning by six o’clock. Of course, you must finish your duties before coming.”

I decided it was about time for me to make an appearance and strode forward purposefully.

“Ah!”

Just then, Jeff, who was swinging the practice sword following General Roy’s instructions, accidentally let go of the handle, and the flying sword fell right at my feet.

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty.”

“It’s alright.”

Since I came today to offer encouragement, I generously let it slide, saying such things can happen, and picked up Jeff’s practice sword, examining it this way and that.

“With your hair cut, I almost didn’t recognize you.”

After a moment, I complimented Jeff’s changed appearance as I returned the wooden sword.

With neat attire, neatly trimmed hair, and a thorough bath, he looked so different from before that it almost created an illusion of blooming flowers around him, making me think he would grow up to be quite handsome.

“Your Majesty, you’ve come?”

“I was out for a walk.”

I exchanged a few light words with General Roy, who was now pretending we had just met, and Roy sent Jeff to another location.

“Go practice more of what I just taught you.”

“Yes.”

Jeff answered energetically and dashed off.

“Why are you teaching that boy?”

I asked, gazing at Jeff diligently practicing swordsmanship from a distance.

“He showed interest in swordsmanship, so I started teaching him lightly at first. I thought he’d give up soon, but he’s exceeding expectations.”

“That’s good. At least he’ll earn his keep.”

Jeff, who showed promise as a boy back then.

As time passed, he rose to become a capable individual who could directly assist me, even reaching the position of a close aide.

“Jeff Heather Piccadilly, there’s word of a rebellion in the northwest. Go handle it and return. Use as many troops as you need.”

“Yes.”

Jeff, who immediately left the office to carry out his duties, had long since been awarded the title of Duke and formally joined noble society, establishing a solid position within the empire with his outstanding abilities.

“That fellow has grown so much. He must be about 20 now?”

“He’s 23, Your Majesty.”

I kept making a pleased expression, feeling proud of the talented individual I had watched grow up so admirably.

“He’s grown a lot. Already 20, huh.”

Pretending not to hear the attendant’s correction that he was twenty-three, I looked at the pile of documents on the desk.

“By the way, when will I ever get through all these records? There’s already a mountain of work to do.”

As I was glancing at the seemingly endless workload and lost in thought, an aide appeared pushing a tray and exclaimed.

“Your Majesty, the southern province is requesting permission to build a new temple.”

Give me a break, will you? I pouted my lips and looked at the aide.

“There are a few more urgent matters besides this.”

“Why are there so many demands?!”

I cried out, collapsing onto the desk as the height of the paperwork, far from decreasing, seemed to pile up endlessly.

Soon, unable to bear the feeling of my eyes spinning, I sprang up from the desk and shouted.

“Save me!”

* * *

“Your Majesty!”

“Wake up! Your Majesty!”

The moment my eyes opened, I sat up abruptly. The Fleur siblings were on either side of me.

‘This damned paper boat made me have a nightmare!’

Perhaps due to the sudden movement, the paper boat that had been placed on my head without my knowledge fell off.

“There’s lots of paper, Your Majesty!”

“Let’s do it together!”

As I was quietly holding and fiddling with it, Ronowe and Berith asked me to join them with beaming smiles.

“…”

Instead of answering, I glanced sideways at Carlyle. The little one was calmly folding paper with several paper boats already perched on his head.

And he was doing so with great concentration and an excited face.

‘I thought he was mature for his age, but at times like this, he’s every bit a child.’

While I was dreaming, I also took a peek at the various origami creations of the Fleur siblings.

‘Well, I suppose that’s why he doesn’t get annoyed even once with those troublemakers and plays along.’

I had just concluded that a child is indeed a child.

“Your Majesty, this is a horse.”

Suddenly, Berith approached and held out his creation, which I unconsciously took.

“Just look at it, don’t take it away…”

Perhaps misunderstanding that I was snatching it away, Berith started to whimper, which flustered me.

“Here.”

I don’t want it even if you give it to me. I suppressed a laugh that was about to escape.

“Use it sparingly, you rascals…”

Following that, I nagged, feeling that even if it was excess paper from the imperial library, it shouldn’t be wasted so carelessly.

“Your Majesty, try it too.”

“I don’t want to.”

But my words fell on deaf ears, and when I acted indifferent, the motley crew threatened to burst into tears again.

“Sigh, alright.”

Might as well do it. I reluctantly decided to join in the paper folding, choosing to attempt the easiest paper boat.

“Ah…”

As I was concentrating on making it, Berith came to my side, stared intently, and then raised his voice.

“Y-Your Majesty!! The boat is…!!!”

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
