“She must’ve gone mad.”

I imagined a dizzying scenario in my head.

Being caught by the knights, maids, Jeff, and Hecate—all at once—my face flushed with shame and embarrassment, utterly paralyzed, leading to the worst possible outcome: Lilith and I later being summoned together to Jeff’s office for a scolding in perfect harmony.

It was horrifying.

“Understood.”

Meanwhile, Lilith, upon receiving my “Are you insane?” glance, acted as if she’d never suggested scaling the wall. With practiced nonchalance, she pretended she’d never proposed it at all, gently setting me down onto the ground and slithering away like a snake—one step back from an awkward predicament.

“Now that I think about it, I went there wearing my slippers.”

When I had stepped onto the grass earlier, my feet felt unusually cushioned. Glancing down, I realized I was still wearing the bedroom slippers I only wear indoors.

“Lilith carried me on her back, yet they somehow clung on without falling off.”

I couldn’t figure out how. There was no sticky liquid binding my soles to the slippers, yet they endured Lilith’s swift, rigorous run through the treacherous forest paths—just as resilient as her own sturdy legs.

“You go back first.”

I placed my hand on my side and ordered Lilith. With hawk-like vigilance, I scanned the surroundings to ensure no one had approached while I dismounted from her back.

“She seems to be lingering nearby, but hasn’t ventured deep into the garden yet.”

Thank goodness. I breathed a sigh of relief, motioned for Lilith to come closer, and whispered:

“It’s better to move with some time between us.”
