Afterward, I stepped outside safely and wandered down the quiet corridor as twilight receded and the surroundings grew slightly dimmer. I walked briskly, exchanging greetings with knights, maids, and servants I encountered, walking and walking again.

Soon enough, I emerged outdoors and immediately passed through a secluded garden path, went by topiary shrubs shaped like arched mansion gates, and crossed a broad avenue lined on both sides with rows of marble pillars—each crowned with oddly pumpkin-gem-like lanterns.

Unlike usual, servants appeared instead of maids, bowing courteously—when suddenly, a firework exploded overhead as though shot into the sky by someone.

On the pitch-black expanse, now studded with countless white specks like grains of sand, a dazzling light burst forth with a loud crack, drawing intricate patterns before stitching the sky with vibrant, multicolored threads.

“Oh my! Your Highness, the Crown Princess! Please look up at the sky!”

Ugh, so loud. Unlike me, who calmly observed the spectacle, Miranda and Hailey couldn’t hide their unusual excitement.

“They call that a firework? I’ve heard it’s terribly expensive—what an honor to witness it in person!”

Even so, maids serving in the Imperial Palace were typically of noble birth and wouldn’t suffer poverty—yet the way they spoke as if seeing it for the very first time, hammering home how costly it was, made me think Ulrika back in my past life must’ve truly been remarkable, having shown me something like this a few times as birthday gifts.

“Why are fireworks so expensive?”

I feigned ignorance and asked innocently. Since Ulrika was a queen, I assumed she’d obtained them easily, so I’d never bothered to ask back then.

“Oh, well—you see, many rare materials go into making fireworks.”

“I see.”

I’d wondered what extraordinary ingredients justified the high cost, but it turned out to be less expensive than I’d imagined. Still, buying several at once would certainly drain one’s purse—and since money, once spent, vanishes like steam, it wouldn’t be wise to buy in large quantities.
