For a moment, I nearly blurted out how different she looked from the first time I saw her, but I held back—after all, I’d only stumbled upon Freyrie’s bedroom by chance while pretending to look for the restroom inside the manor, and if that came to light, I’d be the only one in trouble.

“I’ve heard a lot about you from Sasha. Are you feeling better now?”

So I made up a plausible excuse, casually asked after her well-being, and took a closer look at Freyrie.

Her skin was still pale, almost unnaturally so from long deprivation of sunlight, yet it wasn’t the eerie white of a clay-fired doll—instead, a healthy flush colored her cheeks. Overall, she closely resembled Duchess Vladimir in appearance.

Indeed, when Freyrie gave a slight smile with crinkled eyes, I couldn’t help but imagine that had Duchess Vladimir been in good health rather than bedridden, she would’ve greeted us with that very same smile alongside the Duke.

“Yes, Your Highness.”

Meanwhile, Freyrie answered my question with a gentle smile, and Miranda and Hailey swiftly arranged extra chairs for the newly arrived guest. Freyrie’s steps were slightly unsteady, but with Sasha’s support, she walked over slowly.

Sasha even pulled out Freyrie’s chair for her and gently pushed it into place.

‘Sasha has always been clever and well-mannered, but I’ve never seen him act so tenderly toward anyone before.’

It wasn’t quite “our Sasha has changed,” but it certainly was an unfamiliar side of him. Before, his smiles always carried a faint sense of polite distance, but now it was obvious that his attention was focused solely and unmistakably on this young girl, Freyrie.

“This is fresh juice made from ingredients brought in just this morning.”

Soon after, a maid appeared and poured fragrant, exquisite juice into Freyrie’s and Sasha’s teacups. I watched silently and stabbed a madeleine firmly with my fork.

If I’d been alone, I could’ve comfortably picked it up with my fingers without worrying about decorum, but even among friends, this was a setting that demanded proper etiquette—so I took a careful bite and chewed discreetly.
