“What are these little ones up to?”

I crossed my arms and watched the situation, intending to mediate if it dragged on too long.

“Oh? Smiling?”

In the midst of it all, Sasha lifted one corner of his mouth, let out a soft chuckle, and then, as if nothing had happened, offered a faint smile and a bow. His cheerful expression, as though he’d just discovered something amusing in that brief instant, was as mysterious as his hidden intentions.

Meanwhile, Carlisle seemed momentarily flustered by Sasha’s sudden shift in demeanor, but he responded calmly, doing his best not to show it. He returned the greeting, opened the ornate glass-paneled door, and left.

Thud—!

Only after Carlisle had completely vanished from sight did I notice Beris approaching nearby. Just moments ago, he’d been waving goodbye with a smile—but now, true to his nature, he was already on the verge of tears from sadness over the parting.

“He’s going to collapse from exhaustion at this rate.”

“Take him to another room, comfort him, and let him have a nap.”
