I even hoped she might come just to defend herself.

But nothing happened.

Everything remained as usual, and Freyrie acted as if she had never angrily confessed to me that Duke Vladimir had fallen ill.

When Carlisle checked in on her out of concern, she simply smiled and thanked him. Sasha, on the other hand, said it was fortunate he happened to be at the estate right now, as he wished for his father’s swift recovery more than anyone—but also added that, in the worst-case scenario, he was mentally preparing himself to assume the role of head of the family.

At that moment, I realized Freyrie had emotionally blurted out the truth in a fit of anger, and everything she told Carlisle was merely an act—a lie. Though it made me cringe, I absolutely refused to let it show.
