People Aren't Meant to Be Fixed! (4 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 142
“No, did this kid come without making a sound, tiptoeing on their heels?”
I barely managed to feign composure outwardly, casually shrugging off the shoulder Beris had touched with an indifferent expression. Quick-witted as always, he withdrew his hand while still gazing at Sasha, then clasped his hands behind his back—but not before subtly tugging my side garment, nudging me to step backward with him.
Anyone could see it was clearly an attempt to put more distance between Sasha and me, and during that brief contact, the crisp fragrance wafting from Beris made it obvious he’d gone to great lengths getting ready despite oversleeping.
I vaguely recalled, though I couldn’t pinpoint exactly when, once offhandedly telling him his perfume smelled wonderful—asking where he’d gotten it. Beris really does try hard to impress me.
Of course, if he wants to keep his position as my close aide, it’s only right he makes such efforts. His tidy, self-disciplined attitude wasn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t say anything useless like “you don’t need to try so hard,” and I felt relieved knowing Beris might lack the diligence to become a knight, but at least maintained noble dignity.
He was still full of mischief, yet no longer ate things dropped on the floor or messily handled food with his hands—quite an improvement. His long hair was neatly combed and braided to one side too, lending him an intellectual aura that contrasted with his occasional foolish antics, which added a welcome touch of calmness.
Considering he’d overslept and rushed out in a hurry, his outfit wasn’t bad either. The black overcoat could easily resemble funeral attire, but the shoulders and chest featured crimson fabric embroidered with golden roses, a large red jeweled brooch adorned the collar, and beneath it lay a beige cravat matching his shirt—a rather stylish ensemble.
“How funny.”
Yet Beris hadn’t once turned his head toward me, keeping his eyes fixed straight ahead on Sasha. So how did his gestures and actions still betray such obvious concern for me? I tilted my head, puzzled.
“When did Sasha and Beris fall into this dynamic?”
It was truly strange.
They weren’t exactly rivals, but I never imagined they’d end up in this odd tension, occasionally wary of each other with me stuck between them.
“It doesn’t seem like something Prince Vladimir would say.”
“I think the same goes for Prince Fleur.”
This clash between Beris and Sasha wasn’t their first.
