People Aren't Meant to Be Fixed! (4 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 14
Fzzzt!
Fzzzt—fzzz!
Stunned by the loud, repeated crackling of electric currents, I stood frozen in bewilderment.
‘Oh no—this isn’t the time to just stand around!’
Snapping back to my senses, I immediately shouted for Her Highness the Crown Princess.
“Your Highness!”
The maid trembled uncontrollably, terrified that some grave danger might have befallen the one she served. I calmed her and surveyed the situation.
‘There’s no sign of forced entry from outside. Then what on earth is happening inside?’
My head spun with countless thoughts, so I decided to act before it was too late.
After all, if Her Highness was in danger, I had to rescue her immediately.
“Your Highness, please forgive my impudence!”
Yet, never in a million years should one enter the imperial chambers without permission.
Nonetheless, given the urgency of the situation, I steeled myself, disregarded propriety, and opened the door.
Creak—.
“!”
Inside, the room was thick with smoke—visibility nearly impossible.
‘Damn it, I can’t see a thing.’
I hastily covered my mouth with my sleeve and coughed violently.
‘I must clear this smoke first!’
Fearing the Crown Princess might suffocate, I flung the windows wide open and frantically waved my cloak around.
‘The smell of burning is awful.’
I exerted all my strength, flapping the cloak so vigorously it made loud rustling sounds, determined to drive out the smoke.
‘Something has definitely gone wrong with Her Highness.’
Gritting my teeth, I kept pushing the smoke away until the room—once seemingly destined to remain forever shrouded in murky, acrid fog—gradually returned to its original state.
“Your Highness!”
Moments later, armored knights rushed in with a clatter. Startled by the loud noise, they’d charged in wearing gleaming silver armor, their faces tense with anxiety, evidently suspecting an external intrusion just as I had.
[This is the timeline separator]Cough, cough—.
‘What a mess.’
Unable to stop coughing, I sharply turned my head toward the direction from which Eshian’s voice came. He stood beyond the lingering haze, not yet fully dissipated, and visibly sighed with relief upon spotting me.
“Your Highness! What has happened?”
Seeing me tightly clutching Poppy, grimacing from the harsh smoke and stench of burning, Eshian looked utterly flustered.
“Are you unharmed?”
Eshian stepped forward to the foot of the bed, knelt on one knee, and placed a hand over his chest in formal deference.
“…Y-yes, of course.”
I mumbled the reply, unable to meet his eyes—because I was at the heart of this disaster.
“You—search every corner of this room immediately.”
“Yes, sir!”
Assured of my safety, Eshian promptly ordered the knights.
“Your Highness, please set your worries aside.”
Glancing sidelong at the wisps of smoke still lingering in the chamber, Eshian spoke gravely.
“We shall swiftly apprehend the assassin and mete out severe punishment.”
His expression hardened into something fearsome, and he clenched his teeth with an audible grind.
“N-no, that won’t be necessary.”
Please, don’t. The air around him felt blood-red with murderous intent, making me even more despondent.
“How can you say that?”
His voice, usually gentle, now carried steel—so much so that the nearby knights gulped nervously.
‘Damn it, was opening the window briefly the problem?’
I winced, my head pounding as I saw the knights still waiting obediently by the wide-open door. Recalling my panicked state from moments ago, I squeezed my eyes shut and then opened them again.
‘I never even considered that a mosquito might get inside.’
Trending
Poppy, my troublesome companion, had fired a beam at the unwelcome guest—the mosquito.
‘But to identify a mosquito as a target…’
Flash!
Remembering how Poppy refused to stop attacking sent a cold sweat down my spine.
Fzzzzt—.
I’ll never forget the moment that bright, vivid yellow beam shot straight from its muzzle and struck the mosquito dead-on.
‘Aaah! Stop! I said stop!’
It was absolute chaos. Only after the mosquito turned pitch-black and crumbled into ash did Poppy finally calm down—and drew unwanted attention in the process.
“The intruder in my room wasn’t an assassin—it was a mosquito.”
Dying of embarrassment over a single mosquito escalating into a full-blown incident, I confessed the truth before things spiraled further.
“It seems this little one was catching mosquitoes while I slept.”
Squeak—.
While speaking, mortified, I tugged firmly at Poppy’s face, making it whimper.
“That black spot over there is the evidence.”
The spilled milk couldn’t be undone, so I pointed directly at the charred mark right before me.
‘I’ve lived a long life, but this is the first time I’ve seen something mistake a mosquito for a lethal threat.’
Silent tears streamed down my face inwardly as I pressed Poppy’s body tightly.
‘Now I know Poppy’s power is ridiculously excessive.’
Burying my face in Poppy’s soft fur, I thought:
‘Truly alchemical weaponry—if it can do this, it might even challenge God.’
Setting aside my shock, I resolved to put Poppy’s power to good use from now on.
“Your Highness, if it pleases you, I shall report this directly to His Majesty.”
Meanwhile, Eshian cautiously addressed me, maintaining steady eye contact.
“I shall hire pest exterminators to ensure such an incident never happens again.”
His worry-soaked face now brimmed with guilt.
“I am deeply ashamed, Your Highness.”
Having finished speaking, Eshian turned and barked at the knights:
“What are you waiting for? Go report to His Majesty at once!”
“Yes, sir!”
They all sprang into swift, resolute action.
‘Damn it.’
Report to Jeff? Anxiety crept in as I realized things were escalating further.
‘Don’t tell me Jeff’s going to overreact again?’
Back when he’d just opened his eyes to the world, Jeff had never once left me alone.
In the days when I could barely sit up and lay helplessly in bed, he always carried me close—so imagining his reaction upon hearing the news filled me with dread.
‘He often abandoned his state affairs just to come see me.’
Wasn’t he the very emperor who tossed aside all imperial dignity to crawl on palace playroom floors and become my personal toy?
‘He’ll surely burst into tears and snot the moment he hears the report.’
Knowing his nature, I braced myself for the coming catastrophe.
‘I’m already exhausted.’
Convinced that my headache was real, I just stared blankly at the door—the moment it burst open, my nightmare would begin.
Thud-thud-thud—
Soon enough, someone came sprinting down the corridor. I swallowed hard, instinctively knowing Jeff would arrive at my chamber any second.
Bang!!
“Darling!!!”
But Jeff was slightly different from what I’d expected. Instead of his usual fussing, exaggerated worry, and cheek-pinching kisses, he looked deathly pale—frail and utterly terrified as he searched for me.
“Your Highness… urk!”
Completely disregarding everyone around him, he shoved past several knights with audible thuds, utterly forgetting composure.
‘Is he… angry?’
Well, even for someone young, creating a disturbance loud enough to echo through the halls might warrant a stern imperial reprimand.

‘Jeff, you haven’t forgotten, have you? I never scolded you even when you broke that vase you cherished so much.’
Could he really be about to berate me? He’d never raised his voice like this before, so I tensed up a little.
‘I absolutely hate being lectured.’
Nervous about what Jeff might say next, I grew hypersensitive.
Whoosh.
“Do you have any idea how worried your father was? I feared something might have happened to you!”
Tears welling in his tender eyes, Jeff took me from the maid and listened to Eshian’s full account.
“I’ll make sure no mosquito dares come near your room ever again.”
“Yes, I understand.”
He even patted my back to comfort me first. If it were me, I’d have started scolding right away—but Jeff was, as always, born to fuss.
Gurgle…
“How about something to eat?”
Of all moments, my stomach chose this one to chime in.
Mortified, I clamped my mouth shut and froze, then reluctantly glanced up at Jeff.
“Alright. Let’s go eat quickly.”
‘Such a simpleton.’
He’s really letting this go? Watching Jeff’s expression brighten, I let out an inward sigh.
“Tonight, the royal head chef prepared something special just for you. You can look forward to it.”
“Really?”
Please don’t tell me he “specially focused” only on potatoes again?
‘I’m already fed up complaining that they always favor potatoes at meals—it drives me crazy.’
I silently prayed for a peaceful resolution and, too lazy to walk, immediately climbed onto Jeff like a mount.
“Hmm~ Actually, today is rather special—it’s an anniversary.”
On our way to the dining hall, Jeff quickly recovered his smile and chattered excitedly. Seeing him hum a tune confirmed his earlier distress had completely vanished.
‘If it’s an anniversary, there’ll surely be plenty of sweet desserts.’
Who cares—since my favorite dishes are about to arrive soon, I’ll feast to my heart’s content! My eyes sparkled with anticipation.
‘I can already smell the sweetness in the air.’
Images of dazzling, sugary desserts flashed through my mind, and my excitement soared to cosmic heights.
“Your Majesty, as you commanded, we’ve prepared delicacies featuring the finest specialties from each continent.”
“Good. You’ve done well.”
Then, at last, we arrived at the dining hall.
‘Oh!’
After the chef bowed and withdrew, my full attention locked onto the sumptuous banquet before me.
It felt just like those ancient times when angels occasionally appeared—their wings radiating brilliant, celestial light.

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.
Synopsis
During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.
Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”
Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”
With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.
Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?
He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
