True to her nature as an overprotective, homebound father’s darling, Hecate—fiercely loving toward her children—of course couldn’t have missed it. Miranda, Hailey, or Freyrie must have surely reported that my condition seemed off from usual. The situation was painfully obvious even without seeing it firsthand.

Still, it was fortunate she hadn’t immediately stormed out of her office in a panic. Instead, she’d given me time and space to recover—a small mercy, considering I’d explicitly ordered no one be allowed in. Though, knowing those two, they very well might have ignored such an order altogether.

Given that I’d nearly died as an infant from a severe illness, I’d fully expected my parents to burst in like wild boars, weeping and wailing, unable to simply stand by while their child moped around all day in a daze.

Jeff and Hecate—whose reactions were usually so predictable—had shown remarkable restraint until now, with only Hecate coming to stay by my side. Perhaps it was because of my earlier comment that I preferred when they worked diligently instead of slacking off?

Or maybe they truly respected my wish to be left alone and trusted Freyrie and Carlisle to care for me properly.

Though I was only ten—a still very tender age—they didn’t blindly force their opinions on me, which I appreciated. It made me feel respected.

“No, I’m not sick.”

Goodness, but how long did she plan to keep that dejected look on her face? I stretched my arms wide and claimed I’d slept well and felt refreshed. Whether it was the return of my “conscience” stirring changes within me or simply the sight of my most cherished disciple and loyal retainer from my past life looking so deathly pale—I couldn’t bear to keep staring at him.

I wanted Hecate to relax and brighten her expression by telling her I’d fully recovered.

“I’m so relieved to hear you’re not unwell.”

Hecate let out a sigh of relief and pulled me into a warm embrace upon hearing I was all better. Her complexion visibly brightened, and her expression softened—but still troubled by my earlier melancholy, she tilted her head slightly to study my face and asked gently,

“But I heard from others that your mood has been very low since this morning. Could you tell me why? I want to know if there’s anything your mother can do to cheer up her daughter.”

How could I possibly explain that it was because I’d met the World Tree? Internally flustered, I simply claimed that sometimes one feels inexplicably down for no clear reason and struggles to control their emotions—a bold-faced lie, but one delivered with practiced shamelessness.

I added that while I hadn’t understood the cause myself, I’d gradually started feeling better with time and wasn’t sad anymore.
