People Aren't Meant to Be Fixed! (4 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 12
The next morning.
It was a clear, blue-skinned sky morning, with clouds spread out quite pleasingly.
Jeff appeared again today, accompanied by a physician.
The elderly physician, with black hair and a white head covering, seated me on the bed right before Jeff’s eyes and carefully examined the condition of my leg.
“How is the Crown Princess’s condition? Could it possibly be broken?”
Jeff asked, his face fidgety and anxious.
He tightly clenched both hands, squirming his body restlessly and fretfully.
“I’m fine. It doesn’t even hurt anymore.”
I reassured Jeff, letting him know I’d improved.
‘Goodness, what an overreactor.’
Suddenly, yesterday’s events came to mind.
‘Because of Jeff’s fussing yesterday, I ended up getting excessive treatment.’
I thought I’d suffocate from frustration.
‘I absolutely don’t want to go through that again! Never!’
Outwardly, I grinned cheerfully as I looked at Jeff.
“My strong, spirited daughter!”
Jeff’s eyes sparkled brightly with emotion.
“Do not worry, Your Majesty.”
Meanwhile, the physician, having waited until the conversation ended, rose from his seat and reported.
“I’ve applied the ointment thoroughly; it’ll heal cleanly within a day.”
I weakly swung my leg back and forth, then turned my head.
‘Is that the ointment I applied earlier?’
A small box sat on the bedside table.
‘It looks expensive.’
Judging from the gold lacquer on its surface and the intricately detailed patterns, I guessed the price must be astronomical.
“Since it’s healing, that’s good—but take utmost care of the Crown Princess so no scar remains.”
Jeff, having swiftly returned to his composed imperial self, spoke seriously.
“Yes, I shall keep that in mind.”
The physician replied with a gentle smile, then added a few more words.
“As commanded, today I used the ointment made from dragon’s breath. Not only is it highly effective, but only three such ointments remain in this world.”
The physician emphasized his point by holding up three fingers, which startled me.
‘D-dragon’s breath?’
I’d assumed it was merely an expensive, rare ointment—but what did I just hear?
It felt as if lightning had struck my head.
‘Dragons vanished from the earth over 500 years ago—yet you used something that precious?’
Baffled, I glanced up at Jeff—but he, for some reason pleased, formed a heart shape with both arms.
‘Jeff, you idiot!’
Oh dear, my head… I felt dizzy.
‘He can’t possibly be unaware that dragon’s breath can even resurrect the dead!’
I was frustrated that such a costly item had been casually used on a minor injury.
‘Did he deliberately order it applied to a mere bruise? Is he truly insane?’
What on earth was he thinking? I gaped in disbelief.
Knock, knock.
Then someone knocked on the door.
“Your Majesty, Sir Cain has arrived.”
“Let him in.”
Soon, the door creaked open, and the gray-haired servant delivered news to Jeff.
“A certain alchemist named Miladton requests an audience with Your Majesty. What shall we do?”
Jeff rested his chin on one hand as he replied to the servant, who was seeking instruction.
“Miladton, you say. In that case, it’d be better to receive him in the study rather than the formal audience chamber.”
Trending
“If it pleases Your Majesty, I shall bring him to the study at once.”
“Then I shall go there immediately as well.”
Jeff nodded firmly and promptly prepared to leave.
‘Aren’t alchemists wanderers who belong to no faction?’
Listening quietly to their conversation, I grew curious.
“Why has the alchemist come?”
I tilted my head and asked.
“Dad summoned him for a certain errand. I’ll tell you more after I return.”
“Okay.”
Before I’d even finished speaking, Jeff swiftly approached, knelt on one knee to match my eye level,
“Don’t cry even if you miss Daddy, my dear daughter.”
He then kissed my forehead and turned toward my personal maids.
‘I’m not crying!’
Who’s crying? Irritated, I rubbed the spot he’d kissed with the back of my hand.
‘Just how long must I endure this nonsense from him?’
At this rate, I might get used to it.
“Under no circumstances should Darling be allowed near the study. Understood?”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
A moment later, I happened to see Jeff and a maid whispering quietly—but their voices were so low that I couldn’t make out their words clearly from where I sat.
“Darling.”
Having finished speaking, Jeff swiftly turned toward me.
“Daddy will be back soon.”
He blew kisses and heart shapes, even winking one eye—sending a shiver down my spine. Every hair on my body stood on end.
Thud!
After Jeff left, my personal maids approached.
“Your Highness, shall we play the popular Imperial ‘jangjang’ dance today?”
One maid enthusiastically shook a rattle.
“Shall I read you a fairy tale instead?”
Another suggested an intellectual activity.
“Hmm…”
I fell into thought, listening to both maids.
‘I’d rather find out why Jeff summoned the alchemist than play such childish games.’
Pretending to deliberate over which game to choose, I plotted how to uncover even a hint of the information I desired.
“The azaleas in the central garden are blooming beautifully—let’s go see them!”
Since the garden was right in front of the study, I might catch sight of something—and this seemed like a good plan. I clapped my hands and smiled.
“?”
But the maids looked suspicious.
They froze at my words, then flustered.
“Huh? The—the garden?”
Why were they trying to stop me? The maids desperately offered various enticements to change my mind.
“How about building blocks indoors instead?”
“Y-yes! Huge, terrifying hornets are swarming around the central garden!”
What’s with these two?
‘They won’t even let me near the study?’
I sensed something fishy—perhaps there was something I wasn’t supposed to see.
“Look at this, Your Highness!”
Soon, they began performing acrobatics. Their earnestness was so endearing that I decided to feign ignorance.
“Then lead me to a picturesque spot where I can draw instead.”
“Yes, Your Highness!”
Ugh, their obvious relief was painfully clear. I clicked my tongue inwardly.

Clink.
A short while later, inside the Imperial Palace’s indoor garden.
“Now that I think of it, Your Highness is already three years old.”
I sat in a tiny, cozy armchair, gently swinging my legs and staring blankly at the sky as I watched my personal maids arrange canvases, paints, and brushes neatly.
“Indeed. It feels like just yesterday that Your Highness was crawling about on all fours.”
“It’s already been three years since that day.”
In front of the lavishly blooming rose beds, the maids lowered their voices and whispered—their words once again lost to me.
‘As long as they’re not talking about me, I don’t care.’
In my previous life, I could hear others’ conversations from afar, but this reborn body was painfully ordinary.
‘Back when I was Emperor, I could hear every idle mutter so clearly it caused me stress… This is much better.’
While the maids prepared art supplies, I fiddled with a toy.
“Though we’ve yet to receive news of the war’s end, I hope Your Highness remains safe and well like this.”
“Of course. Now we only need to wait for the day General returns.”
Though I couldn’t hear their full conversation due to the distance, I observed the maids’ actions between their hushed words.
“Honestly, I still don’t understand how we managed to bring Your Highness safely back to the capital that day.”
Hurry up and get ready already—why so much chatter? Impatiently, I grumbled inwardly.
“True. Same here. That day three years ago… the air was thick with the stench of blood, and rain poured down.”
Soon, I inadvertently pricked up my ears at the maids’ recollections—but quickly turned my head away to avoid meeting their eyes.
“Exactly. Back then, we helped the General give birth and raced to the capital with all our might. Just remembering how drenched Your Highness got in the rain—and then caught a fever—still makes me shudder.”
“And didn’t the physician say we’d missed the treatment window and should prepare ourselves? How fortunate that Your Highness miraculously revived!”
“And now that His Majesty has recently acquired the medicine he’d long sought, we no longer need to fret as we did before if Your Highness falls ill.”
My patience finally snapped. I groaned as I climbed down from the armchair and approached the maids.
“I wonder what kind of picture Your Highness will paint!”
The two maids guided me toward the canvas as I drew near.
‘Shall I begin?’
I stepped onto an elegant white cushioned chair, immediately dipped my brush in paint, and began painting.
‘My usual skill isn’t showing today.’
With paint splattered across my face, I concentrated fiercely until I finally completed my masterpiece—then tossed the brush onto the floor with a sigh of regret.
“I’m done!”
Proudly, I announced and showed the painting to my maids.
“Guess what this is! Whoever gives the right answer gets a prize.”
In the finished work, on a green meadow stood a creature of ambiguous humanity… no, it was Jeff, with a rainbow painted behind him as the key detail.
“Is it a rock?”
“Nope.”
“A flower?”
Oh dear, why can’t you get it right? None of their answers matched what I wanted.
“You’ve painted a tree spirit from a fairy tale!”
“Not that either.”
Each time a maid guessed wrong, I vigorously shook my head side to side.
“Is it the mashed potatoes you had for breakfast?”
“No. You clearly have no sense of art.”
The maid who failed again looked disappointed, and I shook my head, lost in thought.
‘Is this how the Messenger of God felt when dealing with me?’
Suddenly, I recalled something from long ago.
‘Is this it?’
‘No.’
‘How about this?’
‘No.’
Back in the age of primordial humanity, when God and I exchanged questions and answers endlessly.

“Ah! Is it His Majesty the Emperor?”
“How dare you speak so irreverently…!”
“Yes, that’s right! Correct answer!”
Hailey looked shocked at Miranda’s words, but seeing my pleased expression, she said nothing.
“You clearly understand art. Next time, I’ll draw you as a reward.”
I declared that Miranda would be my next portrait subject.
“Your Highness, His Majesty is asking for you.”
Just as I caught my breath, a maid arrived.
“Why?”
“I was only instructed to bring Your Highness swiftly to the study.”
“Alright, I’ll go now.”
Why didn’t you just tell me in advance instead of making me shuttle back and forth?
‘I was just about to immerse myself fully in the world of art again.’
Inwardly clicking my tongue, I headed off to meet Jeff.
[This is the timeline separator]“Your Majesty, I’ve brought Your Highness.”
The place I arrived at shortly after was a room near Jeff’s study.
“There’s my daughter!”
Jeff approached with a delighted expression.
“One little kiss~”
He took me from the maid’s arms and kissed me—and in that instant, I felt my body stiffen completely.
It was dreadful.
“I’ve prepared something to give you once you’re able to walk properly.”
“What is it?”
Cancel my previous complaint.
‘I can’t resist gifts.’
My curiosity piqued, I immediately asked what it was.
“Now, look over here!”
Soon, Jeff held me with one arm and pointed with the other.
“That’s meant solely for you, Darling.”
Where his hand pointed stood a gift box adorned with red ribbons, pearls, and golden lace.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
