I was the first human to set foot upon this land. I was also the being crafted most meticulously by God.

Born with beauty in every aspect, I was adored by countless beings.

The love I received overflowed so abundantly it could fill a dried-up river and embroider the heavens themselves.

The hue of love that filled the world was truly beautiful.

At first, merely gazing upon it brought me pure joy—until a sudden thought struck me.

‘What if I gathered all that resplendence into one place?’

After all, it was love given to me; what harm could there be? So I began carefully stacking the love I received from others into a treasure chest.

Partly because this “love,” shimmering in myriad colors, looked so luscious—but mostly because I loathed sharing it with anyone else.

Half a year passed, and the love I’d amassed had grown so vast it threatened to spill over even after filling the chest to the brim.

Yet still, I refused to share even a drop of it with anyone.

Those who had once lavished love upon me now fought among themselves, desperate to win back my affection.

It was around then that the light which once made the world sparkle vanished, giving way to an eternal night.

Then one day, God, who had been watching us from beyond the world, descended to the earth.

“Why do you hoard love instead of sharing it?”

God posed a remarkably simple question to me.

“Because I like it.”

That was my reply.

But my answer to God then was not sincere—it was merely a prettified response meant to sound proper in His presence.

And God seemed to know I hadn’t spoken the truth.

“How pitiful you are.”

God wore a sorrowful expression at my answer. Then, taking the chest in which I’d stored love for the past half-year, He said:

“I shall give you a riddle now. Should you provide the right answer, I shall return this chest to you.”

Panicked at the thought of losing the chest, I hastily offered many answers—but none of them were correct.

“I shall wait until you find the answer. It matters not if it takes a very long time.”

When I kept giving wrong answers, God immediately ascended back to the heavens—

taking with Him every being except me.

Thus, I alone remained on the land God had created.

Having always been surrounded by the love of many, I learned the feeling of “loneliness” for the first time when left utterly alone.

After spending several years in solitude, I began to resent God.

In a world devoid of everything, I slowly withered away.

At first, I thought I would simply die—but cruelly, that timeless era showed no sign of ending.

Determined to end this tedious, lonely existence, I began searching desperately for the answer to God’s riddle—

unaware that the “shackle” of “eternal life” had already been placed upon me.

[This is the timeline separator]

Which life was this now?

Once, a child I met on earth said something like this:

“Big sister, living is just like an apple falling from an apple tree.”

At the time, I stared at the seven-year-old brat with a baffled expression.

Though I was only ten years old then, memories from my past life made me feel ancient inside.

Anyway, this child wasn’t in the same situation as me, yet at just seven years old, already spoke with surprising depth.

After all, she said our lives never let us choose our beginning; we simply opened our eyes one day to find ourselves already in the world.

The fact that she compared such a philosophical principle to an apple suggested she wasn’t an ordinary child.

And indeed, life was exactly as she described.

Whether you were a beggar for whom the street was home or a radiant noblewoman, you never got to choose your starting point—not even once.

“Uuugh.”

On a day when warm sunlight gently poured into my eyes, I slowly opened them.

“It hurts.”

The very first sensation I felt was pain.

My eyes stung so sharply I blinked open and shut countless times. Judging by the brightness around me, it was daytime, and the warm breeze felt like spring—yet for some reason, the pleasant sunlight pricked my skin like the scorching summer sun.

“My vision feels strange.”

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

Why couldn’t I see clearly? Everything looked hazy, as if I’d just turned on a light after being in complete darkness, making it hard to distinguish objects.

Blink… blink…

I simply blinked again. Gradually, as my surroundings came into clearer focus, I slowly opened my mouth.

“Uweeehk—”

When I tested my voice, only muffled, garbled sounds tumbled out.

“Hmm… perhaps this is a body I haven’t used in a long time?”

The first thing I noticed was a fence.

“A fence?”

Thinking it odd, I reached out my hand—but my body wouldn’t obey. It felt as if I were tightly bound by rope.

“Could this be a prison? Or a slave market?”

I tried shaking my head to clear my thoughts, but even that wouldn’t move as I wished.

“This would be troublesome if I really am tied up.”

Eventually, deep in thought, I recalled the lives I’d lived before.

I had repeated countless existences.

Sometimes as a beggar, sometimes as an ordinary person, once as a knight, and even once as a noble duke’s daughter.

These lives shared one rule: I never knew when or where I would next open my eyes.

I called this phenomenon “reincarnation,” and I knew it was real because I’d experienced innumerable deaths and rebirths.

At first, I was only bewildered, wondering what was happening—until, in my twelfth life, a conversation with a scholar confirmed that this truly was reincarnation.

Thud. Thud.

While I was lost in thought, a dull sound came from near the fence. I listened carefully, but no further noise followed.

“Who’s there? It sounded like footsteps.”

Unnerved, my nerves tensed and my senses grew sharp.

I couldn’t tell whether the approaching person meant me well—or if they were an assassin coming to kill me.

“Dying the moment I regain consciousness would be awfully anticlimactic.”

I clicked my tongue inwardly and recalled my curse—or rather, my ability.

The condition of reincarnation: I only ever opened my eyes in bodies that had just died.

Since any breathless body would do, I could awaken as a child, an elder, or even a middle-aged adult.

Occasionally, if I was unlucky, I’d be reborn in a body that had been dead for about three days—gruesome, but true. In those cases, I endured the absolute worst times; no matter how hard I struggled just to survive, I’d soon die again. Because such lives rarely lasted long, I’d learned to assess my situation immediately upon waking in a new body.

Fortunately, though this body was hard to move, it didn’t carry any foul odor.

At least it wasn’t a corpse that had been dead for long.

Or perhaps I’d awakened in the body of someone who’d been in a coma, teetering right on the edge of death.

Swish—

Soon, I felt someone gently pick me up. Strangely, they cradled my neck and back softly. It reminded me of when I’d been reborn as a dog.

“Could I have been reborn as a beast again?”

A dreadful thought crossed my mind, but I quickly dismissed it. Rebirth as an animal was exceedingly rare—I could count such instances on one hand.

“Oh my, how adorable!”

A voice sounded above my head.

“Wait—that’s the exact same thing someone said when I was the noble family’s pet dog!”

Did I… really get reborn as an animal again?

Usually, being reborn as a beast only happened if I’d committed grave sins in my previous life.

“Did I do something wrong in my last life?”

I swallowed my confusion and slowly tried to recall my most recent existence.

“Uuuuh…”

In my immediately preceding life…

I had been a “king.”

Not just any king—I’d transformed my nation into an empire and became an emperor.

A so-called Conquering Emperor.

There was a rather sad story behind it.

Among my many past lives, in the two most recent ones, I’d met a friend who learned my secret…

“So… you die and come back to life?”

Chapter 120 Chapter 119

Her name was Ulrika.

She was the kind of person who’d killed all her siblings through bloody purges just to become queen.

“Perfect timing! I’ve got no daughters!”

When I died as a knight and was reborn as a young noblewoman, she couldn’t hide her delight.

She even claimed she had neither husband nor child and tried making me her heir—needless to say more.

“So… want to be queen?”

“No.”

I had God’s riddle to solve. Devoting my entire life to that problem barely felt sufficient—I certainly wasn’t going to waste time being a queen.

I refused her request dozens of times.

“You should have a child of your own, Ulrika.”

“You know I’m married to my country.”

“I understand your sincerity and your request well.”

“Then?”

“I’ll politely decline again today!”

Yes, I had clearly refused.

“Long live our new sovereign! Ten thousand years!”

Yet somehow, I ended up becoming the very monarch my dear friend had sung about daily—

all because of a single will!

Cruelly, in that life, I’d been reborn as a young noblewoman with no relatives, leaving me no way to escape royal duty—especially since Ulrika herself had guaranteed my status.

Of course, in a country that staunchly upheld hereditary monarchy, the throne rightly passed to the royal bloodline upon a monarch’s death—but Ulrika had wagered everything on her nation and ultimately had no children.

Her five or so collateral relatives had blindly trusted Queen Ulrika and exploited the people so shamelessly that they’d long since been demoted or assassinated. Either way, there was simply no one else to inherit the throne besides me.

In that situation, her handwritten will bequeathing me the throne wasn’t enough—she’d even had it witnessed by her most loyal elder statesman and right-hand man, Duke Tevern, the empire’s second-in-command, who would follow her orders even if it meant raising the dead.

What choice did I have?

Eventually, I took the throne, succeeding my friend who’d spent her youth on battlefields while others dated.

At first, I’d considered running away, shouting, “Anyone can be king!”—but upon reflection, I thought becoming king might actually help me find the answer to God’s riddle.

“I’ll just gather learned scholars using royal power and order them to solve it for me.”

But my expectation was utterly mistaken.

“Damn it, being king is way too busy!”

In fairy tales, kings just order their servants around—but fairy tales are just that: tales.

As the supreme ruler, I was constantly overwhelmed—overseeing the people, managing diplomacy, fending off foreign invasions. There was absolutely no time for leisure.

Realizing anew just how extraordinary Ulrika had been, I briefly considered ways to make life easier—then gave up.

“Aren’t foreign invasions and diplomacy issues just because there are too many countries?”

So instead, I cleanly obliterated the neighboring kingdoms.

“Long live our victorious sovereign!”

I kept going until multiple nations became one.

“Long live His Majesty the Emperor!”

And just like that, the country I ruled had become an empire. By then, I thought I might finally find God’s answer—but then I grew old and fell ill.

“You’ve spent your whole life for your country.”

I stared emptily at the ceiling.

“Damn it. I blew it this life. Totally blew it.”

I’d never before died after a lifetime spent working nonstop.

So in my next life, I’d focus solely on my mission and find that answer.

“Duke Piccadilly.”

“…Yes, Your Majesty.”

My loyal vassal’s eyes—steady as steel—wavered like reeds in the wind. I gave a weak, tired smile.

If Ulrika had Duke Tevern, the cunningly loyal noble, then I, as emperor, had Duke Piccadilly. He was the genius I’d discovered as an abandoned boy in a ruined kingdom, now grown into a formidable man in his thirties, watching helplessly as my life’s candle slowly flickered out.

“I’ve decided. It’s you.”

Sadly, I’d been far too busy to have even a husband, let alone children—just like Ulrika. I did track down very distant relatives, but they all perished during the wars.

In the end, Ulrika and I had lived the exact same lives.

“I shall pass the imperial throne to you.”

At my words, Duke Piccadilly’s expression turned to shock.

“Wha—? Y-your Majesty?”

Surprised?

I had the same reaction when I first heard Ulrika had abdicated in my favor.

“But what choice do I have?”

Wouldn’t the country descend into chaos without a leader?

“I entrust the empire to your care…”

I was just about to add, “Don’t you dare run away claiming you’ll never be emperor,” when—

“Your Majesty!”

My previous life—

my existence as the Conquering Emperor—ended with the cries of horrified loyal vassals, especially the desperate shout of that strong, young duke, serving as my requiem.

[This is the timeline separator]

Recalling my past life, I suddenly realized something.

During my campaign to forge an empire, wars had never ceased—and now a random old saying surfaced in my mind: “Commit violence on earth, and you’ll be reborn as a beast in your next life.” Though some dismissed it as superstition, I’d taken precautions anyway, securing victory through threats, minimal force, and the least possible bloodshed!

“Abuuu!”

It’s unfair!

“Kyaaaah!”

I’m ruined!

No wonder my voice sounded muffled—it was a beast’s cry!

Incomprehensible sounds still poured from my mouth. Thus, I reached one conclusion.

“It seems I’ve been reborn as a dog in this life!”

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
