“A difficult question, indeed.”

Jeff seemed hesitant, perhaps because my question exceeded the understanding of a typical three-year-old. He crossed his arms, his face becoming serious in thought, while I waited for his answer, fidgeting with the teddy bear in my arms.

“Do you know what fate means, asking this?”

His reply wasn’t what I had been hoping for.

“No, I got curious while ambitiously reading a difficult book.”

Ah, I sighed internally. I was worried he would end this by treating me like a child, proud yet dismissive. He could have easily sidestepped my query, asserting that a young princess like myself wouldn’t comprehend.

Disappointment enveloped me first, and I braced for an unfavorable outcome.

“Besides, I’m only three. I lack a lot to find the answer to a question by myself.”

Not willing to leave my question unanswered, I added a reasonable explanation. Poppy reacted immediately to my feeble act.

“Quack…”

He tightly clenched the blanket I was under with his small hand, as if sensing my sadness.

“I tried to understand it myself, but my mind only got more complicated. So, I asked while I was pondering.”

I glanced at Poppy before turning my head to look directly at Jeff.

Having said this much, he had to rethink and provide a proper answer to my initial question unless he was foolish.

‘Honestly, the old me would have ignored it. I don’t like complexities.’

For some reason, the words of YongYong, from our first and last encounter, kept disturbing my thoughts.

‘I want to solve this quickly and not care about it anymore.’

Regardless of the reason, I hate feeling weary. Searching for God’s answer alone was headache-inducing; I didn’t want this adding to my troubles.

“Darling…”

After what felt like an eternity,

“Your father thinks it’s truly admirable and wonderful that you always strive to understand various things.”

Jeff’s mischievous demeanor vanished, and he became solemn.

“But, I’m worried because you’re too intelligent and mature for your age.”

“Why?”

Just tell me directly, for heaven’s sake! I managed to keep my rising irritation in check.

“It’s because what you see changes as you know more.”

Meanwhile, Jeff maintained his solemn face, layering it with a trace of sorrow.

“Your father wished you to live without worries in the innocent world of a child.”

How ironic to hear what I once told Carlyle returned to me like this.

‘Oh well, you can only worry about this because you don’t know I was a monarch.’

My already world-weary body and mind couldn’t possibly be a flower garden.

“Darling, did Daddy talk about something too difficult earlier?”

Oblivious to my thoughts, Jeff lightened his slightly sorrowful face, shifting the topic with a cheerful tone.

“Forget what I said just now. Let me explain what ‘fate’ means before answering your question.”

He laughed heartily, winking one eye.

“It refers to the relationships between parents and children like you, Darling, your mom and dad, and friendships.”

After finishing, Jeff brushed back the stray strands of my hair.

“And ‘fate’ is also like a sturdy rope.”

“Why a rope? It can break at any time, and it’s not even sturdy.”

Odd. I immediately tilted my head at Jeff’s analogy.

‘I know from experience that cases like Ulrika and YongYong are rare.’

Moreover, relationships can crumble in an instant, like a sandcastle.

“That’s why you have to manage it diligently. To prevent it from breaking, you have to meet daily and spend a lot of time.”

“Is that how you value a relationship?”

It still didn’t resonate with me. It seemed profound, yet hard to believe that simply repeating such actions would make one value a relationship.
“Yes, it’s important to share even the little things, to know how to be grateful and to apologize.”

Jeff lightly smiled and gently patted his own chest with his index finger.

“And everything experienced together with fate becomes a memory, accumulating here.”

“Memory…”

It seemed like I understood, but at the same time, I didn’t. It was easy to accept the theoretical meaning of what connection and bonding were, but it was difficult to grasp the feeling that the hidden true heart and relationships between hearts bring.

Even if I understood it intellectually, it felt as if someone intentionally cut out the part that accepts emotions with scissors, leaving my heart empty.

‘However, when I keep mulling over what Jeff said, it’s not like I have no memories with the little ones.’

Watching the Fleur siblings play with toy swords in the playroom, playing tag together in the garden, memories of the time spent with Jeff and Hecate pretending to be fairy kings and playing with balloons—it wasn’t all meaningless.

The only downside was that I often got annoyed and felt like I was babysitting, which was exhausting.

“This is difficult. Would you like to read letters?”

My head is about to explode. I flung the teddy bear that was in my arms and grumbled, and Jeff handed over several letters with a smile that seemed to say he understood.

“Don’t peek over my shoulder.”

“Your father, me, would never do such a bad thing!”

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
