“This is a game prepared by Her Majesty the Empress.”
The maid bowed her knees as the children ran towards her, and I stepped aside. I didn’t want to be in the middle, and I wanted to avoid it because Ronoewe had hit my jaw with his head earlier.
“Where?”
“I want to see too!”
How would it be after always building blocks, matching puzzles, and playing with dolls in the playroom? The Fleur siblings showed tremendous interest in the emergence of a new game. They reached out to each other to get the map.
“I’ll show you now, so please wait a moment.”
Then, the maid who had calmed the children with a gentle smile called another maid and spread the scroll together.
“Called Treasure Hunt!”
The maid, more excited, proudly unfolded the treasure map with a loud shout.
There were X marks all over the mazelike place, and the sight of a large tree in the center seemed to stimulate the curiosity of young children.
“So, are we looking for treasure?”
“Something shiny?”
And as expected, the Fleur siblings did not disappoint. Expectation and excitement overflowed from their four red eyes, and their tightly held hands told that they wanted to find treasure quickly.
“Yes, of course.”
The maids answered with a smile at their innocent looks.
“I’m going to find a huge chocolate cookie!”
“I’ll find something bigger!”
The children who started to jump around soon circled around Sasha.
“I’m excited!”
“With Brother Dtokdokan, we’ll find it quickly!”
Sasha, hearing the praise, responded positively with a smile in his eyes.
“Treasure! Treasure!”
“Let’s go quickly, Your Majesty!”
“Let’s~ You must receive the fairy’s blessing before going.”
Why all this fuss? We’re starting in a moment. I shook my head inwardly as I watched the children go ahead.
‘Kids are something…’
I clicked my tongue inside and unfolded the treasure map handed to me.
Then, Carlisle, who was standing nearby, approached.
“Your Highness…”
It was the moment when Carlisle was about to talk to me.
“Treasure hunting. Aren’t you looking forward to it already?”
Sasha, who was a little distance away, suddenly interrupted and spoke. Because of that, I looked at Sasha, surprised as I was about to turn to Carlisle.
“Not really.”
Why would I be excited about such childish play? I responded curtly to Sasha, who was smiling.
“Come this way~ This is where the treasure is hidden.”
It wasn’t long before I followed the maid. The two maids, who had first taken Ronoewe and Beris with them, looked at me, Sasha, and Carlisle and explained.
Boppi followed quietly, and the maze looked familiar, as I had been there once in a previous life.
“Do you see the red mark on the map?”
Nodding at the maid’s explanation, I looked at the map.
“There is a very special gift there.”
Of course, it’s treasure hunting. I waited for the next words.
“And the treasure in the center is the most precious one! It’s the only one in the world!”
“Plus, the person who gets to the center first will receive a delicious candy.”
Just candy. I thought the reward was trivial.
“If you get lost in the maze, just call us loudly.”
“Now, please start one by one!”
Feeling glad not to be with the children, I twirled Boppi’s hair with the hand that wasn’t holding the map.
I judged it was better to hold the creature and run for quick movement. Every time I jumped, Boppi opened its mouth wide with a scared face, but there was nothing I could do.
So, I wandered around every corner of the maze, looking around.
“Your Majesty, did you find it?”
While catching my breath in the heat, Beris called out to me from a distance.
“No.”
“Let’s race to see who finds it first!”
“No.”
Anyway, she’s full of unnecessary energy. I answered listlessly.
“Start!”
Whether I agreed or not, Ronoewe pretended not to hear and raised the flag of competition with a loud voice.
“Let’s go together~.”
“My hair is caught!”
Noisy children. I broke into a cold sweat knowing that Ronowe and Beris were sticking together.
“It would have been chaotic if I had been with them.”
Because, it was already dizzying with just one of them, but if the siblings were all together, it would have been tiring. I waited until the children’s presence receded, then looked at the map again.
“But this maze has changed a lot from before.”
Some parts of the structure had changed from the past, and I felt like I would get lost if I relied too much on old memories.
However, such thoughts were overshadowed as I neared the location of the treasure, and I found maids hiding behind the bushes, holding signposts with arrows that blatantly pointed the way.
“Why would they go so far?” I wondered, pretending not to notice the bush where the maid was hiding as I passed by.
“That Hecate guy…….”
Then, near the treasure’s location, I sat down to rest for a while as I was out of energy. Boppi also seemed very tired and plopped down on my lap.
“Looking at how hard they prepared, they must have wanted to plan and enjoy it themselves.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
