“Oh, really? Why?”
Finely chopped meat, designed to aid digestion, harmonized well with the banana sauce developed by the head chef as a stroke of genius. It melted in the mouth with juiciness, enhancing the fantastic taste.
“He seems to like it a lot.”
Seeing Hecate’s slightly awkward expression, as if showing signs of not wanting to study, she just smiled happily, her burdened expression from disliking the moments of growing with Jeff disappeared.
Servants and others perceived it as the expression of parents crazy about their beautiful daughter, and it was a face that seemed to say it wasn’t the first or second time.
I couldn’t understand why I could express such strange emotions every time. My head throbbed for a moment, and when I discreetly turned my gaze away, Hecate’s voice rang out again.
“Today is the day to paint the portrait of the Hwang family.”
“Portrait?”
Momentarily reminded of the old days, I raised my head hesitantly. Jeff smiled and answered instead of Hecate.
“Yeah. I felt a bit regretful that I only made sculptures recording our daughter’s growing appearance during the leisure time.”
Jeff finished speaking, and while staring at Hecate for a moment, at that moment, a gleam seemed to flow as if butter was smeared in his eyes. There was a sweet honey smell vibrating from somewhere.
“He’s doing it again. Again.”
Recalling a guy who always fawned on me in a past life, I unknowingly almost made a groaning sound. I quickly put a piece of meat into my mouth and chewed.
I have experienced living as a child and living the life of a child with parents several times, but I have never seen a couple so close and affectionate, so it was fascinating.
If you theoretically explained the reason for this, you might accept it somehow with your head, but that’s an academic perspective. It was eerie to feel the sensation of bones squirming without bones, like squid legs.
What the hell do you do to fall deeply in love with each other like that?
I’ve been born several times, received affection from someone, and even felt the preciousness of the connections passed by while playing a treasure hunt a few years ago, but it remained the same.
Although I have become more receptive to thoughts and emotions about others than before, it was still certain that there was no connection with emotions like Jeff and Hecate’s.
My whole body’s nerves screamed, and an imaginary cockroach that couldn’t be seen appeared, crying that it couldn’t bear to see me in such a state.
“Besides, as you know, Dazzling used to go on expeditions far away in the past. The situation was complicated, with the Cheop incident adding to the confusion.”
Jeff, still holding Hecate’s hand, looked at me.
“But now it’s different. The situation has stabilized, the little saint has grown up a lot, and with the stamina and patience to endure for several hours, I thought it would be okay to challenge new things.”
With a gentle smile, Jeff finished speaking and lightly released Hecate’s hand, making a fist.
“But, Dazzling, do you know what a portrait is?”
Hecate, who had the opportunity to speak next, had a slightly worried expression. It seemed like they talked about something only they knew, so I quickly answered, shrugging my shoulders, wondering how they saw me.
“I know. It’s a painting that focuses on the face, right?”
“Maybe we went ahead without explaining too much. Our daughter knows a lot.”
With a relieved heart, Hecate pushed a neatly wrapped chocolate toward me and added.
“Portrait painting requires the model to stay still for several hours. Although I feel a little sorry for the painter, we want our Dazzling to take a break every 15 minutes. But we don’t want to burden our daughter too much. Sorry to the painter, but Dazzling is more important to Mom and Dad.”
Well-adjusted on their own. Nodding, I leaned forward to grab the chocolate that Hecate pushed toward me, tearing the wrapping paper and quickly putting it in my mouth.
Since I usually don’t eat much for breakfast, I planned to have a sweet snack at the right time.
‘I’ve done portrait work even during the Sun Emperor era, but it’s just about lying down and breathing.’
I laughed inwardly, strengthened my shoulders with a triumphant posture, and happily ate the chocolate.
Seeing Jeff and Hecate, who usually restrict me from eating too much at once, not saying anything and letting me eat without limits, it seemed like they were giving me a reward for enduring the modeling time for the portrait work.
Tuk, tuk.
“It’s been a long time since the three of us walked together.”
“It’s been a long time since we’ve been so close early in the morning. We usually took a short walk in the evening or lunchtime.”
After the meal, we headed to the spacious room where the portrait work would take place due to a tight schedule.
‘I wonder if the painter in my past life painted my portrait. There’s also the possibility of an old man.’
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
