“Don’t you really know? Haven’t you seen and heard things in the Empire during the gap between my being a previous emperor and reincarnating as a princess?”

Lise Marsen shrugged her shoulders at my questioning expression.

“I did once live in Paradise, so I knew of the World Tree’s existence. After all, no resident of Paradise could be ignorant of the World Tree, the lord of that realm.”

Supporting her chin with one hand as if reminiscing about the past, Lise Marsen looked down at me.

“However, that was all I knew. Moreover, detailed information about the World Tree was confidential even among Paradise residents, and only one person could communicate with it. How much more could I have found out even if I had been unbound?”

I sighed, disappointed that I had placed my hopes on her.

“I’m actually very impressed right now. I left Paradise nearly 500 years ago. If someone sent a World Tree leaf as a gift, that life is certainly tenacious.”

Giggling and narrowing her eyes, Lise Marsen slightly bent her waist and knees to look at me more closely, then stared at the World Tree leaf.

“More importantly, wouldn’t you know more about the World Tree than I do? You were its only friend, permitted by God.”

Straightening her waist, Lise Marsen placed one hand on her hip as she continued to speak.

“After God created Paradise below the Heavenly Sanctuary—that is, the Land of Gods—He planted the World Tree there. Realizing its loneliness and hardship, He created you with all His might and sincerity. That’s why you were always lovely and the sole focus of God’s attention.”

“You remember a lot.”

Lise Marsen found my curt response even more amusing.

“It’s all from when I was a snake slithering around you, boasting about such things. I remember vividly because I heard it so many times, okay?”

Giggling, the jubilant Lise Marsen stretched.

“Ah, speaking of which, God cherished you so much. Why didn’t He even give you a proper name?”

Tapping her cheek with her index finger as she mumbled, Lise Marsen clicked her tongue.
“Why would a god’s representative or a second humanity take the name of paradise and call you ‘Paradise’?”

“Enough of the old stories. It’s better than being called the first human every time.”

I snorted and timidly tapped my feet on the sofa.

“So you’ve summoned me to ask questions, but why are you the one doing all the talking?”

Immediately after, Lise raised her voice, telling me to calm down.

“I apologize, Your Highness. Seeing the leaf of the World Tree suddenly made me think a lot.”

With a voice that wasn’t apologetic at all, Lise shamelessly added that she would now listen to my story with utmost attention.

“I won’t leave you alone if you ruin the mood halfway.”

“I won’t, Your Highness.”

Lise, now smiling brightly, finally assumed a position to truly listen, and I began fiddling with the World Tree leaf as I started my narrative.

“Actually, I thought the World Tree was long dead. But its presence here means it’s still alive, right?”

“Yes.”

Encouraged by the affirmative response, I continued calmly.

“But when Jeff and Fleur went to the temple with the kids, they didn’t feel the World Tree’s aura. Why? I was the tree’s only friend, according to you, and we had a special relationship.”

“Ah, I can answer that. Before you were conceived, the general had gone to the temple with you. That’s when I encountered the World Tree after hundreds of years. I don’t have the ability to converse with it, so we didn’t even exchange greetings.”

Lise, who initially misunderstood my intent, chuckled as she spoke.

“When I looked at the World Tree then, it felt more imprisoned than free. Wrapped tightly in numerous heavy chains, slowly cracking and drying up, you know?”

“What? Who imprisoned it? Humans? Those priests?”

It had been my last opportunity to see it, but the World Tree, being a tree, couldn’t move. My heart sank hearing it was imprisoned, given that I hadn’t seen it for hundreds of years.

“No. The World Tree is not imprisoned. The guide told me it was a tree they discovered while clearing land to rebuild Ariel’s temple. They felt its divine aura and decided to keep it alive.”

Lise continued smoothly.

“That’s strange.”

I tilted my head, placing my chin on my hand.

“Anyway, if it was near the temple, I would have discovered it when I, as the Emperor, destroyed Ariel’s temple, right?”

Upon my incredulous gesture, Lise smirked.

“The scale of the temple when you were the Emperor and now is different, isn’t it? It was smaller back then, so you probably didn’t go in the direction where the World Tree was, hence you didn’t detect it.”

“Is that so?”

When I squinted skeptically, Lise subtly changed the topic.

“Anyway, the World Tree is being punished.”

Lise, who had quietly approached, soon lightly tapped the top of my head with her index finger.

“Just like you.”

My Step-brother Is Obsessed With Me (Female-dominant)

A gentle female protagonist vs pitiful in the early stage, and a sick male protagonist in the later stage

Cheng Songer transmigrated into the body of a vicious cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her in a female-dominant novel.

In the original story, the cannon fodder female supporting character was inhumane, committing domestic violence, gambling excessively, being lustful, and even wanting to sell her stepbrother to a brothel for money.

As luck would have it, she just happened to transmigrate at this time.

Seeing Cheng Qingzhi biting his lip, enduring the tears in his eyes, looking pitiful, her heart softened.

She stuffed the money back into the Madam’s hand and reached out to him.

“Brother, come home with me.”
