“Yoon, Miss Eunjo?”
“Yes.”
As Eunjo briefly introduced herself, the gaze of the head nun lingered on her. The twinkling eyes felt filled with deep curiosity.
“…I see.”
“…?”
“Oh! Fortunately, Mondays are the days when volunteers come to help with the cleaning of the annex.”
“That’s good. May I join them?”
“…”
The nun paused again, blinking only her eyes. It might seem a bit strange for a woman to suddenly come and say she wants to do something without notice. Does she appear eager to do something?
“…Did I come too early?”

“Oh, look at me! I’m sorry. Please, have a seat for now.”
“…Yes.”
Eunjo sat in the chair pointed out by the nun.
“It’s not too early; you have about 30 minutes. Can I offer you a cup of tea?”
“…If it’s the annex, is it where the children who have completed protection stay?”
“Yes, that’s right. Is green tea okay? We’re out of coffee.”
“Yes, that’s fine. Coffee[Dash]I’ll buy it later.”
“Thank you, but actually, one of the volunteers already brought it.”
Hot water was poured into rustic mugs one by one. The nun’s face, with a subtle smile, was serene.
“Oh, if you need anything else, please let me know.”

“Just your presence is more than enough. Here you go.”
Taking the offered mug, Eunjo unknowingly let out a sigh of relief. Even though no one here knows her, spending her childhood here seems to have calmed her unsettled heart.
“It’s much better than coffee. Thank you.”
Luckily[Dash]the nun nodded her head.
While coming up the hill from the bus stop to here, Eunjo carefully observed her surroundings. Naturally, things had changed a lot.
The path for children to walk safely was well-established, and there were plenty of cafes, large convenience stores, and even a sophisticated bakery.
Ten years ago, when Eunjo turned eighteen, she stood on the same road and held back tears. The future seemed pitch-dark, and she felt abandoned.
But now, behind the building of the Sunflower Hill, a tall building stood tall. It was as if a reliable older brother was protecting the younger one.
“I was surprised that the annex is larger than I thought.”
“…Come often from now on. No[Dash]what I mean is… because I’m so, glad… Oh, why am I like this? The annex[Dash]so, there are 12 rooms in total, combining 2-person and 4-person rooms. There’s a separate dining area and library. Now that the protection is over, there are no kids leaving this place as if chased away. It’s such a thankful thing.”

Looking at the blushing nun again like a girl, Eunjo nodded her head.
She had never expected that she would be the recipient of such gratitude.
“Oh my! This person is Miss Yoon Eunjo!”
A volunteer who heard Eunjo’s name from the nun shouted to others.
The busy gaze of the volunteers, who were busy putting on aprons and gloves, all turned to Eunjo.
“Really? Is that Yoon Eunjo?”
“Wasn’t she a grandmother? Is the lady Yoon Eunjo?”
“Unbelievable…”
“No. Where have you been doing what, and now you show up?”
“Well, let’s take a closer look.”
In an instant, Eunjo found herself surrounded by older ladies. She was surprised, her eyes widening, but the head nun just smiled.

“Now, everyone. This person probably doesn’t know the reason for this situation, so shall we show her? Come on!”
“…!”
The moment Eunjo saw it, she froze.
It was commonly called a ‘cornerstone.’ Would anyone pay attention to it, which usually contains information about the architect, contractor, and completion date? It’s not like there’s anything special about the contents.
However, what Eunjo saw was…
[For those who need protection and prayers[Dash]20020620 Yoon Eunjo]
Numbers and a name neatly engraved on the marble… It felt like a secret message. Of course, to the eyes of others.
Eunjo naturally knew the meaning of that number.
The ring Jaeha gave her, with a small number engraved inside it. She clearly heard what that number meant.

“Don’t you remember? It’s the day we first met.”
His smile… It contained earnestness. He had been persuading her to go to the United States together for days.
“……My ring.”
The ring swallowed by the black river, delicately wrapped in a pink handkerchief, put in her bag… Just as her thoughts were becoming tangled like entwined threads, she felt the touch of the nun’s hand.
“I almost fainted when I heard Miss Eunjo’s name earlier. Actually, I vaguely knew what kind of person you were to the kids. So glad and thankful.”
A warm hand firmly held Eunjo’s powerless hand and comforted her.
“…Sister, actually, I don’t know why my name is here either.”
“Well, someone who donated under the name of Miss Eunjo. You know who it is, right?”
She had a guess.
That the person who built the annex would do something like this. She heard the news that a building for the children was being erected around the time Jaeha appeared at school.

She had asked him about it, but every time he skillfully changed the subject.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
