After all, going back would mean either unbearable pain or a pain so deep she’d wish for death.

Anywhere would be better than that hell.

Even if it meant standing in front of this strange mansion, rejected at the doorstep by her husband.

Duke Lev, seeing Yuan’s desperate appearance, awkwardly gestured towards the mansion’s entrance.

A servant rushed from afar toward them.

Duke Lev, not taking his eyes off Yuan, asked for Clad to be called.

He then promptly instructed another servant to bring his carriage.

As much as he felt sorry for the new Empress, he had no intention of participating in her stubborn journey.

Yuan Euphris, the ninth bride, would likely flee in terror from Clad and the royal family would soon send a tenth bride.

If Clad showed himself, she would be so frightened that she’d run away barefoot.

‘Just like all the others before her.’

Duke Lev felt a twinge of pity for the fragile bride and bowed his head.

Yuan ignored his departure to the end.

She simply gathered her hands neatly and waited for someone else from the mansion to take her away.

“What are you waiting around for? Sit down already, you’re going insane. No contact after making such a scene in front of so many people. What a disgrace to the family!”

“I wonder if she’ll come back on her own. This time I won’t let it slide so easily. I should make her kneel in the snow until her joints freeze and she can’t walk on her own. Where does she think she’s going, following someone like that?”

“Yes, you’re right. That frail girl might already be scared and turning the carriage back to come here!”

“That doesn’t mean I’ll easily forgive her!”

Count Euphris said this to his wife but still sat on the sofa in the drawing room, tapping his foot anxiously.

It had been days like this already.
The entire Euphris household was initially enraged by Yuan’s escape, which had brought chaos and utter disgrace upon the family.

The private soldiers of Duke Compani had ransacked the entire house, and there was no appropriate way to protest this humiliating situation.

Moreover, Yuan, who had always been submissive, left after staring defiantly and saying all she wanted to say. The Euphris family was dumbfounded for quite some time.

But Regina laughed, finding relief as if a throbbing tooth had been removed, and while Frederic initially joined his parents in their anger, he was not much different from Regina.

Unlike them, the Count and Countess of Euphris, who had been managing the household with Yuan’s help, began to grow increasingly anxious after four days without any contact from their niece.

“Ah, I did it all for her good. Didn’t I? Where is Roxenhardt anyway? That black mansion, where is it! It’s in a poor and remote fiefdom with long winters and a desert right next to it. How does she plan to live as the bride of that monstrous former emperor? Instead of seeing it as a stroke of luck that her sister went there, she fusses about what and why?”

Count Euphris’s face began to flush with increasing anger as he ruminated over these thoughts.

Frederic, who had been indifferent, soon carelessly joined in, “The former emperor is still royal. Becoming family with the royal family could help us climb the social ladder. That Roxenhardt or whatever it is, being the former emperor’s territory, might have something to spare for us.”

Frederic gulped down wine taken from the cellar.

To him, Yuan was nothing more than an annoying cousin. If her marriage could help their social ascent, there was no reason not to accept it.

“What’s the difference between Yuan and Louise? Just send them off to marry. It’s better now that she’s gone, she was annoying anyway. If Yuan is lucky, we might even benefit from it. Right, Regina?”

Count Euphris, unable to scream at them for their stupidity, swallowed his frustration. Yuan’s ability was a secret only known to him and Yuan, excluding the deceased Louise. He was frustrated to the point of madness.

With Yuan’s absence, they were missing out on receiving guests who would come to Euphris laden with gold.

For now, they were using the excuse of taking a break to turn away visitors, but what if, just what if Yuan doesn’t return home?

The thought of the incoming complaints from the powerful families who had booked ‘special’ treatments and were waiting for their investments made his spine chill.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
