Yuan Peliesse scratched the hangnail on her finger while staring intently at the firmly closed door of the adjoining room.

Each time a voice leaked from the room, her face grew paler.

Trembling, she bit her lips until they bled, unaware of the pain, waiting for Count Peliesse to open the door of the study.

As the Count stumbled in and locked the door with a loud click, casting a shadow over her with his bulky figure, Yuan finally jerked her head up to look at her uncle.

“Isn’t it about time you handle guests on your own? Is it so hard to go in early with your dazzling face, smile, and serve a cup of tea?”

“There are too many people today…”

“How many times must I say, Peliesse thrives because of these people?”

Yuan bit her blood-tasting lips without a word, as her uncle began to coax and soothe her reluctantly.

“Are you the only one suffering? I’m in pain too. But what can we do? This is the fate of Peliesse. Do you think I want to do this? Nobles don’t work, but Peliesse does. Why? Because our power is the only reason we survive in this competitive noble society. You, with your born talent, should rightly share your abilities with people and work for the family!”

It’s been ten years of hearing this.

She knew, but the pain was unavoidable.

Yuan headed towards the door to the adjoining room that her uncle opened for her, her steps slow and heavy, anticipating the pain that lay ahead.

In the dimly lit room, high-ranking nobles in lavish attire were playing cards amidst thick cigar smoke.

A woman holding a cigar and shuffling cards frowned at their arrival.

“What good is it coming now?”

“Ah, my assistant is unwell today, so—”

“Stop the chatter and just start treating me. What happened to the reputation of Peliesse, making me come here myself?”

The Countess didn’t bother to smooth her furrowed brow as Count Peliesse hurriedly took out a stethoscope and began examining her neck.

He then sharply gestured at Yuan.

Her slender hand gripped the Countess’s wrist, feeling the pulse and absorbing the pain.

“Ah!”

A sharp pain spread through Yuan’s head.

Simultaneously, the Countess’s furrowed brow smoothed out as if ironed.

“Wow, it feels like my head just cleared up. Is it just me?”

“Meeting a good doctor can instantly reduce stress! Hahaha! Assistant?”

Yuan, trembling, handed over a prescription.

Count Peliesse, laughing so hard his mouth might split, took out several bottles from his pocket and used a dropper to add a few drops of medicine into the Countess’s tea.

He didn’t forget to glance at the symptoms written on the prescription.

“Feeling like needles are piercing your head? Eyes about to pop out, especially the left one?”

“…Peliesse really is different.”

Watching the Countess happily sipping her tea, Yuan pretended to adjust the shawl draped over her.

A slight touch on her shoulder transferred all of the Countess’s headaches to Yuan.

It was as if not just the pain but also the expression transferred to Yuan’s pale, smooth forehead, which suddenly crumpled in agony.

“My goodness. Peliesse’s medicine is worth the price!”

Exclaiming in amazement at the sudden relief and disappearance of her headache, the Countess stirred up commotion among others.

Those lying on temporary beds in the corner opened their eyes wide and started causing a ruckus.

“Me next!”

“Treat me first! I’m more urgent!”
“Now, now, everyone must keep order. And remember, you are all very special guests receiving treatment in this mansion. So, under no circumstances should you divulge this to anyone. It would cause me great trouble. I can only welcome such esteemed guests with these precious medicines if this special treatment remains a secret. You understand what I mean, right?”

A man with a leg almost crushed in a carriage accident. An old woman on the brink of death from a chronic illness. A man whose shoulder was nearly severed by a hunting arrow.

Horribly injured and sick individuals smiled faintly in the darkness.

As the terror approached, Yuan’s spine turned icy cold.

“Yuan.”

“…….”

“Think of this as practice for your sister.”

Her uncle whispered to Yuan, who was staring into the darkness with a pale face.

“Let’s go. We have a duty to fulfill.”

After her parents passed away, and her sister left the mansion, leaving Yuan alone, her uncle didn’t abandon her for a simple reason.

Yuan was the only person in the mansion with the power of Peliesse.

The person who abruptly picked up Yuan, lying on the floor of the study’s adjoining room like a corpse, was her cousin, Frederick.

Regina’s clear voice, Frederick’s sister, immediately pierced Yuan’s ears.

“Such a lordly attitude. Does he do all the research himself? Enjoying the privilege of freely entering father’s study but still whining so much? Are academy students just for show? Are my brother and I just decorations? It’s infuriating. He doesn’t teach me anything.”

“I don’t know what it is, but looking at this state, maybe it’s better we don’t do it.”

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
