Once More, Wife (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
There was no time to even ask, “What are you doing?”
Chae Ha grabbed her wrist and swiftly pulled her toward the bed.
Seol Won’s slender body instantly collapsed downward, yielding to his push.
The moment she felt her back touch the bed, Seol Won’s eyes widened in shock.
Above her defenseless form, Chae Ha’s desire-filled gaze poured down like sunlight.
“…What are you doing right now?”
“I already told you—I’d help you remember if you couldn’t.”
She should’ve asked exactly what he meant by that, yet she couldn’t bring herself to.
It felt as if the moment she parted her lips, he’d immediately press his mouth to hers.
Though she knew rationally that wouldn’t happen, Chae Ha’s gaze fixed on her felt as though it would swallow her whole.
“…Don’t do this.”
Seol Won pushed against his chest, struggling to hide her flustered expression.
Yet Chae Ha showed no sign of softening his intense stare.
Instead, he looked puzzled as he questioned her.
“What exactly shouldn’t I do?”
“We’re not close enough for this.”
At her words, Chae Ha’s lips twisted into a strange, faint smile.
Still pinning her beneath him, he whispered lowly,
“If a married couple isn’t close enough for this, then who is?”
“I already told you—I don’t remember being married to you.”
“And I told you I’d help you remember.”
Seeing Chae Ha, who showed no intention of backing down, Seol Won genuinely felt at a loss.
His resolute gaze seemed to pierce straight through her thoughts.
Avoiding his eyes unconvincingly and rolling her eyes away, Seol Won finally spotted a perfect excuse.
“Woo Joo is in the next room.”
“You should speak accurately—it’s the room after the next. Practically a vast distance away.”
“…”
“And besides.”
Chae Ha cupped Seol Won’s cheek, turning her face back toward him as she tried desperately to avoid his gaze.
Their eyes met perfectly, one above the other.
Just as he’d once thoroughly traced her face with his hands in that island flower shop, this time he scanned her with his eyes.
After a moment, a voice rough as if grinding his teeth came from Chae Ha.
“Don’t you think it’s cruel to ask me to hold back when the woman I’ve ached to hold for five years stands right before me—not a dream or mirage, but real flesh and blood?”
“…”
“Don’t.”
“…Mr. Kwon Chae Ha.”
“Don’t ask me to hold back.”
For some reason, tears threatened to well up, and Seol Won unconsciously bit down on her lower lip.
But before she could, Chae Ha quickly placed a finger on her lips to stop her.
“Don’t hurt yourself. Not even the tiniest mark—I won’t allow it.”
“…”
Why was this man saying such things? Why did he wear such a pained expression?
Overwhelmed by confusion, Seol Won forgot even to push him away.
Just then, a loud commotion echoed from the first floor.
Startled, Seol Won quickly sat up.
“Someone must have come.”
“…Hah.”
Chae Ha roughly ran a hand across his forehead and let out a deep sigh.
From his expression, he clearly already knew who had arrived.
A sense of dread instantly flashed through Seol Won’s mind. Could it be…?
Trending
“You stay here. Don’t come downstairs.”
“…Yes.”
As if determined to hide something carefully, Chae Ha firmly closed the door and left the room.
Watching his retreating back, Seol Won calmed her racing heart and stood up.
She needed to check on Woo Joo—and more importantly, she couldn’t bear to remain alone on this bed.
“I clearly warned you not to barge in without permission.”
“Warning? Look at you—since when do you ‘warn’ your own mother? If you don’t like it, just change that damn password! You’ve been acting high and mighty for days on end. Isn’t that right, Sa Ra?”
“Mother, please don’t say such things to Chae Ha. You showed up unannounced—it’s only natural he’d be startled.”
“…Baek Sa Ra.”
From behind Heo Young Joo, the woman who was cheerfully inspecting the house suddenly found Kwon Chae Ha growling threateningly at her.
“I’m not startled—I’m furious. What business do you have in our home? Instead of stopping an adult from trespassing, you even go along with it? Unbelievable.”
“Chae Ha, really—trespassing? Mother came because she was worried about you.”
“Worried?”
Chae Ha stared at her incredulously, and Baek Sa Ra responded with an exaggerated smile.
Dressed head to toe in designer pieces just as expensive as Heo Young Joo’s, her look screamed luxury.
Her meticulously styled appearance from head to toe only accentuated her insincere smile.
Though one might consider her a refined beauty, to Chae Ha—who’d endured her for years—she looked nothing short of a demon.
Soon, that demon parted her vividly red lips.
“Yes. People from your company said you’ve been unfocused and unusually exhausted these past few days. So I specially prepared some herbal medicine. That’s why I came today—to bring it to you.”
“Don’t you think it’s a bit strange that my being tired somehow led you to make herbal medicine? Where’s the logic in that?”
“Oh, Chae Ha! Honestly—If I don’t take care of your health, who will?”
“That’s right, Chae Ha. Don’t you know how deeply Sa Ra cares for you?”
Unlike Chae Ha, Heo Young Joo appeared thoroughly pleased with Baek Sa Ra’s coquettish tone and chimed in supportively.
Chae Ha’s head throbbed again.
Ever since the marriage talks with the Baek Group began, his mother Heo Young Joo had started barging into his house unannounced.
She’d tried his birthday, then every family-related date she could think of, until finally—out of options—she’d entered Seol Won’s birthday and their wedding anniversary too, and somehow guessed the password correctly.
Each time she visited, she’d rummage through the house, complaining how lonely it must be for a man living alone and strongly urging him to remarry.
And of course, the suggested bride was always the woman standing before him now—Baek Sa Ra.
He’d thought her silence lately meant his stern warnings had worked, but clearly he’d underestimated his mother.
Coldly glaring at the intruders, Chae Ha spoke in a voice as icy as his gaze.
“I do think it’s awful—yes, truly awful—the way you two are acting.”
“Kwon Chae Ha!”
Heo Young Joo waved her handbag wildly but couldn’t bring herself to actually throw it.
What came next was painfully predictable.
She’d dramatically throw a fit and try to force-feed him the idea of Baek Sa Ra as his new bride.
But today was different.
His real wife, Min Seol Won, was openly present in this house right now.
Alongside Woo Joo, definitively confirmed as his son through a paternity test.
Thus, he intended to evict both women quickly—even if it meant resorting to slightly rougher methods.
After all, he’d promised her that returning here wouldn’t bring her any trouble.
Under no circumstances would he let these two meet Seol Won.
“Mother. Baek Sa Ra. Both of you…”
“…?”
Chae Ha’s sentence remained unfinished.
Both women’s gazes had simultaneously snapped toward the staircase leading to the second floor.
Standing there was Woo Joo, wide-eyed and looking straight at them.
“Woo Joo! Mom told you not to come down…”
“…!”
A heavy silence fell between them, as if time itself had frozen.
The first to break it was Heo Young Joo, her mouth agape like a startled rabbit.

“You—you—you…”
Trembling as if she’d seen a ghost, she pointed a shaking finger at Seol Won.
Then, her eyes shifted to the small child clinging to Seol Won’s shoulder—and her hand shook even more violently.
Meanwhile, Baek Sa Ra said nothing, only glaring at Seol Won with murderous intensity.
Following their gazes, Chae Ha calmly looked toward Seol Won and Woo Joo, then slowly walked over to the boy.
“Why’d you come down? I told you to rest comfortably.”
His unusually gentle tone—completely unlike the usual Chae Ha—made Baek Sa Ra’s lips twist strangely.
At the same time, Heo Young Joo began shrieking hysterically.
“What’s going on here! Why are you here! Why you!”
“…Mother.”
“How dare you show your face here! You!”
“Mother!”
Chae Ha’s furious shout made Heo Young Joo flinch.
Baek Sa Ra still refused to lower her hostile gaze from Seol Won.
Her cold eyes swept over Seol Won—and the boy who clearly resembled Chae Ha.
“…Mother, let’s go home for today.”
“What? Go home?”
“It seems you have a guest here today.”
Though she strained to smile, even Seol Won—standing stiffly on the stairs like a statue—could see the rage burning in her expression.
Then Chae Ha delivered a sharp retort toward Baek Sa Ra.
“Guest? If anyone’s a guest, it’s you—and an uninvited one at that.”
“…”
“And this woman isn’t a guest. She’s my wife, Min Seol Won. You know that perfectly well.”
“Hey! Kwon Chae Ha!”
Unable to contain herself any longer, Heo Young Joo charged forward and began jabbing her finger wildly at Seol Won while shouting.
It was the same familiar tirade Seol Won had endured endlessly years ago.
Worried it might upset Woo Joo, Seol Won gently tapped his small back, signaling him to go upstairs.
Feeling Woo Joo obediently head back up, Seol Won slowly descended the stairs.
Then, standing calmly before the two women, she spoke the words she’d prepared in advance.
After all, the moment she’d decided to return here, her response to them had already been set.
“I’m sorry, but who are you?”
“…!”
At Seol Won’s words, Heo Young Joo’s eyes bulged to their limit.
She immediately turned to Chae Ha, then to Baek Sa Ra, as if demanding an explanation for this bizarre situation.
Baek Sa Ra was just as baffled—and kept glaring at Seol Won.
But Seol Won genuinely looked as if she had no idea who they were.
Chae Ha ended this awkward, uncomfortable moment by placing a reassuring arm around Seol Won’s shoulder.
“My wife isn’t feeling well. She’s having memory issues.”
“What? Issues? You mean amnesia?”
“Yes. Right now, she can’t even remember me.”
“What… what?”
Heo Young Joo scrutinized Seol Won up and down with an obvious look of suspicion—why bring home a woman who couldn’t even remember him?
Indeed, Seol Won did seem a bit dazed, unlike her formerly sharp, confident self.
“In any case, she absolutely needs rest, so please leave now. And don’t suddenly show up like this again—she mustn’t be startled.”
“Kwon Chae Ha, you…”
“Baek Sa Ra, that goes double for you. My wife is perfectly fine at home—so you have even less reason to be here than my mother does.”
Baek Sa Ra bit her lip, her shoulders trembling.
Then, still clutching the herbal medicine she’d brought, she stormed out—making an unnecessarily loud racket as she slammed the front door.
Heo Young Joo hurried after her, calling her name anxiously.
Though she was now the nominal mistress of the Kwon Group, why was she so desperately obsessed with Baek Sa Ra?

Probably because Baek Sa Ra, the pampered youngest daughter of a wealthy, blue-blooded family, fulfilled her mother’s own unmet social ambitions through proxy.
And perhaps also her futile dreams unrealized through her son.
Chae Ha shook his head and headed back upstairs.
Whatever the case, the two people waiting up there mattered most to him now.
Far more than uninvited pests like Baek Sa Ra.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
