Following my superior’s stern order, I rubbed my sleepy eyes and headed to Klaus’s bedroom before sunrise.

Though the odds were slim, I silently prayed as I entered the room: Please, please be sound asleep.

But alas, Klaus greeted me from the sofa, his face perfectly alert and awake.

“The royal physician will be here shortly. You’d better finish preparing for your examination before that.”

“Yes.”

Preparing for the examination meant nothing more than undressing and standing bare.

I stripped completely in the inner dressing room and emerged wrapped only in Klaus’s nightgown.

Thanks to my height—no less than Klaus’s—the gown fit perfectly without dragging messily on the floor.

Thinking it excessive to have exams every three days, I gently broached the topic.

“Couldn’t we reduce the frequency of these checkups? There was nothing wrong three days ago.”

“You stayed up late working without saying a word yesterday, and you dare suggest that?”

He was, as expected, no pushover. I couldn’t argue back and simply fell silent.

Klaus let out a deep sigh.

“You seem to misunderstand—this isn’t for your sake. It’s for mine, to keep me from bursting with frustration.”

I had to admit he had a point. So I lowered my head obediently.
