I collapsed onto my bed the moment I returned to my room after finishing work.

“Ugh, I’m exhausted.”

All that tension throughout the day had completely drained me.

Ordinarily, office life was just a constant string of tensions, but today had been especially so—thanks to Klaus’s gaze never leaving me.

“Sigh…”

Still, it hadn’t been unpleasant—in fact, quite the opposite.

For someone who secretly admired him, it was undeniably heartening to know he’d been watching me all along, even if his interest was merely out of curiosity.

There had even been a perilous moment when I nearly exposed my true feelings. Klaus had suddenly sat right beside me, and I’d spectacularly failed at keeping my expression under control.

I’d almost kissed him when I turned my head.

Though utterly worn out, it was undoubtedly the best male welfare ever.

“Ugh… I’ll take a bath in just a bit.”

I’d already removed the bandage from my injured hand. Thankfully, there was no pain, and the redness had significantly faded—it seemed I could manage without it from tomorrow onward.

Still fully clothed, I lay sprawled on the bed when a soft knock sounded, and a letter slipped beneath the door.

“Hm? A letter?”

I went to the door and examined it. The recipient’s name clearly read “Muzel,” but there was no sender’s name anywhere.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.

Intro

As an enchantress, Su Heng possesses captivating eyes and charming beauty, easily manipulating the joys and sorrows of living beings at her fingertips.

But to enchant a god, making him taste the bitterness of love’s separation, long-lasting resentment, unattainable desires, and inability to let go…

Do you dare?

Su Heng assists a divine lord in his cultivation, aiming to make him experience all the sufferings of love, so that he can attain the Great Dao.

Only after being chased down from the heavens by the divine lord, confined and completely possessed by him, does she realize how successful she has been.

The once gentle and polite youth has transformed into someone she no longer recognizes.

Chapter Comments (6)

  1. Zaacna Chapter 52

“If he had never learned that Muzel was a woman, he might have mistaken it for deep friendship”

I had this thought, and this semi confirmed it for me: Klaus seems to like Muzel no matter the gender. He maybe bi, but it maybe only for Muzel. Like Shang from Disney’s Mulan

  2. Zaacna Chapter 57

I get that Rumi’s parents are upset about losing their daughter in the main world, but at some point, FL needs to stop babying her and leave her be.

I understand Rumi character completely. Stuck being sick, barely ever going outside, going to die at any moment, it is COMPLETELY reasonable for her to want to stay.

And FL wants to bring her back because…her parents are sad?

When Rumi tries to explain how miserable she is over there, FL basically counters with “Yea, but your parents are sad and your feelings are invalid”

FL needs to just leave Rumi alone. She is an adult and she knows how to get back home for when she’s ready. As far as we know now, if it gets too bad, Rumi can dip! FL can already see the cracks, so she just either need to honestly stop trying to yank her home before she’s done, or just wait for it all to implode in her face.

  3. Zaacna Chapter 61

I will say, I like Rumi. Yes she’s selfish and naive, and it really adds to her character. She wanted to enjoy this experience because she is dying in the other world, and I have no problem with that. She wanted to experience this alone. Muzel/Jin Yi being there wasn’t part of the plan. She didn’t drag Muzel along and the only reason she’s forcing Muzel to help her is because if she were to actually tell Muzel how to get back home, Muzel would drag her back too (which, i still stand by is a horrible friend move. Muzel as Jin Yi is a bad friend. Muzel as Muzel is at least giving suggestions and trying to explain what Rumi did wrong, but once she switches back to Jin Yi thoughts of forcing Rumi home, she’s very-close minded).

Back to Rumi, she is very naive as we can see by her snubbing the OGFL at the party, and the charity suggestions. She doesn’t know or understand the implications of what she did. She only thinks in the now, not in the future and probably because she’s on borrowed time. She’s rushing and impatient and not thinking of the consequences of her actions, just the results they should bring.

    I really like her.

And Jin Yi is a hypocrite. She’s annoyed/ disappointed/ doesn’t like that Rumi has immersed herself into her role and calls the Duke Father, but she’s allowed to live her life solely for His Highness and is going out of her way to snitch on Gretchen immediately after her slip up because rules are rules and that is what she is supposed to do? She is just as immersed, if not more. If she wasn’t, she would have at least given Gretchen a chance to fix her mistake, like I’ll let this slip once and won’t tell on you and it’ll be our secret. That’s someone not immersed. Immediately alerting the Head Stewart and not in a way of just doing it because it’s her role but because of how serious it is is full immersion.

I know it’s only for the time they are there, but still, she’s so negative about Rumi and anything she does. Like a parent waiting on the their kid to mess up badly just so they can say told you so instead of letting them make their mistakes and grow from it without the taunting.

Even with all this, I still really like all of the characters, especially Lutz. He’s a cutie.
