Oh No, I Possessed a Male Character! (13 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 30
I went to the Imperial Palace Library after work to resolve the doubts I’d had since visiting the pub with Lutz.
Despite the owner’s incredible cooking skills, the pub had been surprisingly empty, and Lutz had said it was due to the economic downturn.
But if there really was a recession, it should have somehow affected the imperial tax revenue as well. Yet I had never seen Klaus troubled by such an issue.
He had merely predicted that reconstruction funds for the flood-stricken southern regions might exceed the national budget, so he’d requested contributions from noble houses during the cabinet meeting.
Therefore, I decided to check the records myself.
“Hmm.”
The Imperial Palace Library held many documents unavailable at the public library downtown—such as the tax payments from each territory I was currently reviewing.
“Hmm… the numbers haven’t changed much.”
I piled document binders high on my desk and diligently compared the data. I’d gathered ten years’ worth of revenue records, and strangely enough, the tax contributions from each territory showed little variation year to year.
“How odd.”
I couldn’t help but tilt my head in confusion. If this truly was a recession, there must have been a preceding boom period—but I couldn’t find any noticeable spike in state revenue.
Tax figures remaining steady for ten whole years… something felt off.
I hurried to another bookshelf—the one holding the legal codes.
“Tax law… tax collection statutes…”
Muttering to myself, I carefully examined each spine on the densely packed shelf.

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Synopsis:
“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”
Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.
Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.
While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
Trigger warning: All men in this novel are yandere style.

“If he had never learned that Muzel was a woman, he might have mistaken it for deep friendship”
I had this thought, and this semi confirmed it for me: Klaus seems to like Muzel no matter the gender. He maybe bi, but it maybe only for Muzel. Like Shang from Disney’s Mulan
I get that Rumi’s parents are upset about losing their daughter in the main world, but at some point, FL needs to stop babying her and leave her be.
I understand Rumi character completely. Stuck being sick, barely ever going outside, going to die at any moment, it is COMPLETELY reasonable for her to want to stay.
And FL wants to bring her back because…her parents are sad?
When Rumi tries to explain how miserable she is over there, FL basically counters with “Yea, but your parents are sad and your feelings are invalid”
FL needs to just leave Rumi alone. She is an adult and she knows how to get back home for when she’s ready. As far as we know now, if it gets too bad, Rumi can dip! FL can already see the cracks, so she just either need to honestly stop trying to yank her home before she’s done, or just wait for it all to implode in her face.
I will say, I like Rumi. Yes she’s selfish and naive, and it really adds to her character. She wanted to enjoy this experience because she is dying in the other world, and I have no problem with that. She wanted to experience this alone. Muzel/Jin Yi being there wasn’t part of the plan. She didn’t drag Muzel along and the only reason she’s forcing Muzel to help her is because if she were to actually tell Muzel how to get back home, Muzel would drag her back too (which, i still stand by is a horrible friend move. Muzel as Jin Yi is a bad friend. Muzel as Muzel is at least giving suggestions and trying to explain what Rumi did wrong, but once she switches back to Jin Yi thoughts of forcing Rumi home, she’s very-close minded).
Back to Rumi, she is very naive as we can see by her snubbing the OGFL at the party, and the charity suggestions. She doesn’t know or understand the implications of what she did. She only thinks in the now, not in the future and probably because she’s on borrowed time. She’s rushing and impatient and not thinking of the consequences of her actions, just the results they should bring.
I really like her.
And Jin Yi is a hypocrite. She’s annoyed/ disappointed/ doesn’t like that Rumi has immersed herself into her role and calls the Duke Father, but she’s allowed to live her life solely for His Highness and is going out of her way to snitch on Gretchen immediately after her slip up because rules are rules and that is what she is supposed to do? She is just as immersed, if not more. If she wasn’t, she would have at least given Gretchen a chance to fix her mistake, like I’ll let this slip once and won’t tell on you and it’ll be our secret. That’s someone not immersed. Immediately alerting the Head Stewart and not in a way of just doing it because it’s her role but because of how serious it is is full immersion.
I know it’s only for the time they are there, but still, she’s so negative about Rumi and anything she does. Like a parent waiting on the their kid to mess up badly just so they can say told you so instead of letting them make their mistakes and grow from it without the taunting.
Even with all this, I still really like all of the characters, especially Lutz. He’s a cutie.
