Hae Jin instinctively hunched over from the sharp onset of menstrual cramps. The stress she’d been under lately had indeed been intense.

As Jun Tae’s scheduled meeting drew nearer, her worries only grew heavier. It all felt as if it were manifesting physically through her cramps.

“I wonder if medicine will even help.”

She just wanted to hurry home and take some pills, hoping to tough it out for now.

Had it really been only three days? Aside from business trips, she’d never left her home without good reason. Right now, getting her hands on painkillers mattered more than how glad she was to be back.

Ding—the elevator arrived. She only needed to walk down the hallway to her apartment at the far end, but the pain intensified so sharply that Hae Jin pressed her hand to her lower abdomen.

She walked with her head slightly lowered, her mind blank—until someone approaching from the end of the corridor spotted her and stopped dead in their tracks.

It was Mom. The parents she’d missed so desperately were standing right there.

Hae Jin straightened her hunched back. As the distance between the three of them narrowed, she couldn’t stop the trembling at the corners of her lips.

Behind her parents, she saw the familiar sight of stacked food containers, wrapped in that recognizable cloth.

She suddenly remembered the note tucked inside the first container they’d left.

Ah—now nothing about her body was under control anymore. Her crumpled eyes, flowing tears, quivering lips, and violently shaking hands—nothing was working properly.
