The situation was resolving too easily, which felt odd. Haegin found himself staring blankly into space for a moment.
“Ah, is it strange that things are working out as planned?”
Tae-hong, who seemed to have instantly read Haegin’s thoughts, withdrew his extended hand.
“Yeah, it’s really dull when things go too easily, right?”
It felt like being toyed with, as if truly becoming a puppet in his hands, manipulated this way and that.
Without notice, Tae-hong had his phone in hand and was making a call to someone. Switching to speakerphone, he casually placed it on the table.
Naturally, Haegin’s gaze shifted to the phone’s screen, where the caller ID displayed.
Chairman, it was unmistakably labeled. Tae-hong was calling the only person he would refer to as chairman, Moon Jun-tae.
While Haegin’s expression remained unsettled, Jun-tae answered the call. Tae-hong’s voice reverberated through the office.
“The meeting with the dedicated marker you sent is over.”

It was as if Haegin was non-existent, Tae-hong behaving like he was alone in the room. Even breathing felt noticeable. Pretending to be invisible was necessary.
Yeah, she’ll be useful.
Haegin bit his lower lip. It felt like seeing the hidden face behind Jun-tae’s kind smile. It was a moment of becoming a disposable commodity, being told he was valuable only for his current utility.
“I’ll make that judgment from now on.”
There was no response from the other side. The conversation between father and son seemed extraordinarily bland. The uncomfortable silence made Haegin stiffen, but Tae-hong’s gaze never left him.
“If she’s not useful, I’ll cut her off without hesitation.”
Who was he declaring war on? Was it Jun-tae who set the condition for usefulness, or himself who needed to prove it? Haegin’s heart fluttered in response.
He had to shed the prejudice of being a ‘parachute hire’ and perform his assigned duty well. He needed to prove to Tae-hong that he was indispensable.
Haegin involuntarily swallowed dryly.
After the speaker call ended, Tae-hong immediately connected the intercom.

“Let’s have a meeting with the Strategic Planning 1 Team in 5 minutes.”
“Yes, Team Leader.”
The woman’s voice over the intercom sounded light and was strikingly different from the current atmosphere.
Tae-hong, putting down the intercom, still had an unreadable look in his eyes. He glanced at Haegin’s attire with a polite but brief scrutiny. Haegin didn’t see the slight curl at the corner of Tae-hong’s mouth.
“Let’s start with the work right away.”
The word ‘work’ filled Haegin’s eyes with intense tension. Exactly five minutes later, Tae-hong opened the office door. Haegin quickly got up and followed him.
As he turned his head, Haegin, standing right behind him, caused Tae-hong to chuckle.
“Quite like a new recruit, aren’t you? Full of spirit?”
It was do or die. Not a trial run but the real deal.
Haegin matched his pace, maintaining a distance as they walked.

Tae-hong entered the meeting room. About five people were seated inside. As Haegin entered with Tae-hong, all eyes were instantly on him.
It was a familiar gaze for Haegin – full of curiosity and wariness. But this time was different. Familiar, yet not something to be taken lightly.
Hadn’t Tae-hong himself not labeled him as a parachute hire? Would these people be any different?
To avoid severing his lifeline, he needed to avoid jealousy. Next was to win favor. The thought of gradually gaining allies was foremost in his mind.
He had to be a parachute hire who didn’t seem like one to ensure a safe landing.
Tae-hong settled into his usual seat and positioned Haegin next to him. Haegin, standing with his hands brought forward, discreetly fiddled with his fingers.
The situation was unfolding too smoothly, which felt peculiar. Haegin’s head turned towards Tae-hong as he spoke apologetically.
“You know how to apologize?”
It seemed out of character for Tae-hong to utter such a word, and Haegin was taken aback by the naturalness of his voice. Tae-hong continued speaking.
“I apologize for the unplanned meeting. I called it because a new assistant manager has joined Strategic Planning Team 1.”
At the mention of ‘new assistant manager,’ the five employees exchanged glances, gauging each other’s reactions. Essentially, an assistant manager in the team was almost like the youngest member.

Haegin had done some research on the company the night before, particularly noting that there had been no recent job postings in the recruitment section.
It turned out that Yeonchang Group’s Strategic Planning Team was known for not hiring staff often. Tae-hong personally recruited people, making the arrival of a new employee quite rare.
The employees, who were sneaking glances, now fixed their eyes on Haegin. Realizing the attention was once again on him, Tae-hong turned around.
“Mr. Jeong Haegin, are you prepared to introduce yourself?”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
