At that exact moment when Sung Hyuk was with Woo Jin, A Rim was sitting at the dining table, furiously stabbing an innocent watermelon with her fork to vent her frustration.

“If there’s nothing to eat at home, you should’ve just said so. What kind of mother tells her daughter who came home without dinner to just eat watermelon?”

Madam Kwak, sitting across from A Rim with her arms crossed, snapped back bluntly.

“I told you to order delivery, but you said you didn’t want to.”

“I said I don’t want delivery food.”

Ever since Young In had visited, a rift had formed between mother and daughter.

More precisely, Madam Kwak was disappointed in her daughter and refused to indulge her tantrums anymore. Hearing that the daughter she had cherished so much had been avoiding her out of embarrassment made her feel like her whole life had been wasted.

The two had been cold to each other for a while, so sitting face-to-face like this and talking was a rare occurrence.

“Why did the housekeeper suddenly quit and cause all this chaos? You should’ve told her to stay until we found someone new.”

“Her son’s family had an urgent matter—what was I supposed to do? I’ve already asked around, so we’ll find someone soon. Just wait.”

Madam Kim had left the house three days ago. The “urgent family matter” was just an excuse; the real reason she quit was Sung Hyuk’s suggestion.

As he had promised earlier, he offered her a generous severance and advised her to quit soon because the house would become chaotic. He also introduced her to a much better job she could start a month later.

Neither Madam Kwak nor A Rim had any idea how big a role Madam Kim had played in all this.

“Mom, clean up and do the dishes. Look at the state of this house.”

“Can’t you do it?”
