“Phenobarbital?”
She knew the quality wasn’t good, but she never thought he would be doing drugs.
“He’ll probably apply for an arrest warrant today. He’ll undoubtedly be arrested, and in a few days, he’ll be sent to the prosecution.”
Then, Jisang revealed the purpose of bringing up this story.
“Crazy, huh? Oh Chang-geun, works of Cha Seonghyeok.”
“…What?”
“Oh Chang-geun apparently used you to harass Baek Heeran. Seonghyeok was pretty mad.”
“…”
“That’s not all.”
“Again… what else…?”
Having heard everything related to Seonghyeok Construction, Young-in contemplated yesterday’s words of Seonghyeok with a bewildered expression.
-Don’t worry. I have no intention of getting involved in your and Baek Heeran’s affairs.
Finally, she realized the hidden meaning behind those words.
No intention of getting involved in her and Baek Heeran’s affairs, but it didn’t mean he wouldn’t do anything.
Seonghyeok’s retaliation scale was truly beyond anyone’s imitation.
Thanks to Jisang, Young-in had the opportunity to have dinner with a master who was not easy to meet. During this meaningful time, she even received advice to send actors’ profiles and heard stories related to the film currently in preparation. However, what made her uncomfortable was the image of Seonghyeok that lingered in her mind.
Immediately after parting ways with the two, Young-in called Seonghyeok.
-Did you meet Director Cheon well?
Hearing his words, it felt as if she was in the palm of Cha Seonghyeok’s hand. Whether she wanted to escape or not, she felt more protected than wanting to get away, and she wasn’t sure if it was because of what she heard a few hours ago.
“Where are you now?”
-At the office. I was just about to leave.
“Can I see you for a moment?”
-At home. Should I come over?
“Yes. I’ll go to your senior’s house.”
It was better to meet late at night than to be noticeable outside and, willingly, she accepted it.
-If you arrive first, I’ll be inside. The password is still the same as before.
“Got it.”
Young-in muttered the words ‘as before’ to herself and hung up the phone.
Seonghyeok had not yet arrived, and Young-in entered the house by entering an eight-digit password.
It was a combination of Seonghyeok’s birthday on July 23 and Young-in’s birthday on January 5.
Three and a half years ago, a man born in the summer said to a woman born in winter.
“Adding your birthday to the password means feel at home in this house. Come and go comfortably like your own home.”
Young-in sat on the sofa, waiting for Seonghyeok, recalling memories scattered throughout the house. It was sentimental and missed. It was a feeling she didn’t feel on the day she had come here drunk.
After about ten minutes, Seonghyeok arrived.
“I thought I might be late.”
As he naturally came and sat next to her, Young-in immediately got to the point.
“I heard from Team Leader Yoon.”
“Did Director Cheon ask me to introduce you?”
“Senior said you helped me a lot, heard about Oh Chang-geun, and more.”
“Did you say unnecessary things.”
Heeran received a call from a friend at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Special Investigations Division when she was with Jisang, and it seemed that he had only talked about Oh Chang-geun because of the wind of flattery. There was no implication for her to convey.
“Why did you do that?”
“I wouldn’t be a man if I pretended not to see injustice.”
“It’s not because of injustice.”
“If a guy pretends not to see someone harassing my woman, he’s not a man.”
“…”
Young-in didn’t ask why she was his woman. She didn’t want to.
“It’s not like I made up a crime and put it in. There’s nothing to feel uneasy about. It’s self-inflicted.”
Since he brought up the subject, Seonghyeok decided to ask something he was curious about.
“What did Beomjoon say?”
“I haven’t seen him for a few days.”
“I moved quickly because I was worried Oh Chang-geun might blabber to Beomjoon. It took about an hour from breaking up with me to getting arrested. I wondered if Beomjoon had the mental capacity to contact him during that time, but apparently not.”
Quietly listening to his words, Young-in calmly opened her mouth.
“Thank you.”
“I told you not to say thank you.”
“Should I curse at myself for doing something useless, then?”
“No, don’t.”
Seonghyeok firmly shook his head and spoke.
“There’s no reason for you to thank me. I made up my mind the moment I spat on Cha Young-in.”
He dipped his fingertip in saliva and jabbed it on Young-in’s face.
“I consider an attack on you as an attack on me.”
“What are you doing…”
As Young-in rubbed the area where his saliva touched, Seonghyeok openly chuckled.
“I’m not dirty, but my spit is dirty to you?”
She was only perplexed, and his spit didn’t feel dirty at all. If someone else had done the same thing, even washing with soap wouldn’t have been enough.
“My spit is dirty too…”
Young-in made a vague excuse and hastily stood up from her seat.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
