As Seong-hyuk had hoped, Jin-gyo didn’t have many schedules. Since wrapping up last year’s end, he was only doing occasional advertising and photoshoots.

The advertising set Young-in went to as an on-site manager for the first time in a while was near Yangsu-ri riverside.

When a camera setup issue caused a delay in shooting, Jin-gyo, who was waiting in the car, suggested a walk nearby to Young-in and the stylist.

The stylist flatly refused, finding it bothersome, leaving only Young-in to accompany him. She was tired from only two hours of sleep, reviewing scripts Seong-hyuk gave her access to, but couldn’t bear to let him go alone.

The two walked side by side after getting out of the car.

“I’ll drive on the way back, Senior.”

Jin-gyo had insisted on driving himself that morning, and Young-in couldn’t persuade him otherwise.

“Didn’t I say I would drive in front of the CEO? Are you trying to make me look foolish?”

“What does it matter?”

“Why wouldn’t it? I’m a man of my word.”

They stood a little away from the busy shooting area, looking at the calm river.

Lost in the serene and peaceful view, Jin-gyo asked Young-in.

“Cha Seong-hyuk is that person, right?”

Young-in turned towards him.

“Your ex-boyfriend.”

For a fleeting moment, Young-in’s pupils quivered, but she quickly regained composure. It felt strangely comforting to see his eyes not probing but certain.

“Yes.”

Young-in candidly admitted and turned the question back to Jin-gyo.

“How did you know?”

“You said before. He felt similar to me.”

Jin-gyo remembered feeling a strange similarity with Seong-hyuk when they first met. Their looks were completely different, but there was a subtle similarity in their way of speaking and atmosphere.

“I said that to you, Senior?”

“You might not remember. It was a passing comment while drinking.”

He remembered her answer to his question about what kind of man he was.

“He was a very impressive person. Someone I shouldn’t even dare to aspire to….”

He still couldn’t forget the self-deprecating smile she had that day.

“I don’t know why, but seeing you, Senior, reminds me of him.”

“Do I resemble him?”

“We’re different in face and personality, but there’s a somehow similar feeling.”

She had said that while gazing intently into his face, and that look was etched in his heart.
Ever since that day, each time he met Young-in, he had wondered. Just how remarkable was this man?

It wasn’t merely curiosity or interest. In fact, it was more of a grievance. How extraordinary must this man be that Young-in still couldn’t forget him?

He felt jealous and resentful towards a man whose name and face he didn’t even know. Because of this unknown person, he had never dared to confess his feelings.

Confessing to a woman who harbors feelings for another man would only result in rejection, he knew.

“It’s an honor to be compared to such a remarkable person.”

The first time he saw Cha Seong-hyuk, he wondered, and the second time, he was certain. Though reluctant to admit it, he had to agree that for Chae Young-in to say someone like him was out of her league, the man had to be quite extraordinary.

“I’m sorry, Senior. I don’t remember, but it wasn’t meant with bad intentions.”

“I know. I wasn’t upset.”

It was just bittersweet.

Perhaps it was because he realized why Chae Young-in, who usually keeps most people at a distance with clear boundaries and walls, was somewhat more relaxed with him.

“What was good about Cha Seong-hyuk?”

After a moment of thought, Young-in answered.

“Because he was a man without deficiencies?”

Cha Seong-hyuk, whom she first saw in the first year of middle school, seemed like someone from a different world. She was surprised by his looks and then again by his family background.

It felt almost miraculous when she learned that he was good at both studies and sports. That was all. She neither admired him like her sister nor idolized him like her brother.

But in one autumn when she was twenty-three, he proposed they date. It wasn’t love at first but grew over time, frighteningly so.

“Does that mean he was perfect?”

Young-in silently nodded.

Was it because she felt incomplete herself? It felt good to be loved by a man who seemed perfect to everyone. Of course, it wasn’t only pleasant.

“That’s why I also disliked it. It made me feel more inadequate.”

It was at that moment a soft voice spoke from behind.

“What if your absence has created a deficiency in me?”

Startled, Young-in turned around sharply.

There, standing slightly askew with his hands in his pockets, was Cha Seong-hyuk.
