No Evil Lady in the World (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 41
He said.
“I don’t understand why you’re angry. Ariante isn’t the only one who wears a corset. Any child from a noble house would…”
Meiana said,
“That’s exactly the problem. That’s the issue. I simply can’t comprehend why anyone would put something like a corset on such young children. Of course, I can’t possibly worry about every child from every other noble house—that’s honestly none of my concern! But Lady Ariante is different. She’s the child I’m responsible for, the one I must care for.”
Sediloi’s expression darkened with a strange look. Ariante, perhaps too shocked at seeing Meiana angry for the first time—or maybe because Sediloi was present—sat frozen, lips tightly shut, unable to utter a word.
Meiana continued,
“But what about you, my lord? Have you ever once shown interest in what clothes your daughter wears? Have you ever tried to understand just how uncomfortable and exhausting that outfit is for her?”
“Enough!”
A loud cry finally burst from Sediloi’s mouth. Meiana fell silent, but her spirit remained unbroken. She merely stared at him, as if daring him to speak if he had anything to say.
She had considered the possibility—perhaps she’d be dismissed, maybe even ordered to leave her post right then and there. But even so, Meiana felt no regret. She’d said many things to Sediloi before—some proper, some not—but this was something she absolutely had to say.
For a while, Sediloi breathed quietly, calming his anger and gathering his thoughts.
Yet he wasn’t truly angry at Meiana’s attitude itself… and that confused him the most. Then what was making him so furious? What was causing this suffocating frustration within him?
“…Let’s go.”
That was the only thing Sediloi said as he adjusted his hold on Ariante.
Still nestled in his arms, Ariante glanced back once at Meiana. Her expression was a mix of sorrow and anger.
