Meiana, waiting outside Sediloi’s bedroom, couldn’t help but be startled when she saw Gretel emerge from the room.

After all, Gretel was always assigned to the eastern area of the mansion where Ariante stayed—it wasn’t as if she had any business entering the Duke’s private chambers.

“Gretel?”

Gretel offered a slightly awkward smile and brushed past Meiana. She wondered what Gretel could possibly have been doing in Sediloi’s room and why she was here at all—but right now, she had no time to press the matter.

While Ariante was having dessert after lunch, Meiana had come straight to find Sediloi. Even if she could overlook the rudeness of the staff, including Beinti, what she couldn’t possibly ignore was Ariante being pushed into the storage pit and the words Joslin had muttered under her breath.

And besides, Meiana thought. She could probably manage on her own to prove Beinti was the one who’d pushed Ariante into the pit, but to understand what exactly Joslin’s muttered words meant, she absolutely needed Sediloi.

‘Though whether he’ll actually tell me the truth… that’s another matter.’

Just then, Zemero glanced sharply at Meiana.

“What are you doing? Not going in? Planning to keep His Grace waiting?”

Meiana snapped out of her thoughts. Zemero, though somewhat strict and curt, wasn’t rude, so she offered a polite smile and stepped inside.

Sediloi’s bedroom was far tidier than she had occasionally imagined it to be.

He was young, yes, but still held the title of Duke, and she’d assumed his room would have an air of dignified solemnity, given the family heirlooms and valuable furnishings passed down through generations.

In fact, it was even more surprising because the study she’d briefly entered before had matched exactly the vague image she’d held in her mind.

“Have a seat.”

Just as on the day Meiana had visited his study, Sediloi once again offered her a chair. Meiana gazed briefly at the seat embroidered with an intricate pattern of Ibi and rose vines, then calmly sat down.
