But Ariante was adamant.

“I absolutely won’t! Really, I won’t! I’ll walk around very quietly. I won’t run at all, never ever….”

For a moment, Ariante seemed at a loss for words and let out a soft, quick breath. She had spoken so rapidly that she even stuttered midway through.

“I won’t hop around at all! Father, I really won’t do it. I promise, truly!”

Ariante was practically pleading in desperation. If she were flatly told she couldn’t wear the tiara, she would surely throw herself onto her bed and cry for a full hour—forget about the ball or anything else….

Meiana looked at Sediloi with eyes that clearly said, “How can you possibly refuse?” After a brief moment of hesitation, Sediloi finally gave in to Ariante’s request—but only after securing a promise that, since the tiara was extremely important and would be needed again later—for her investiture—she must not damage it.

“I absolutely won’t break it!”

Ariante beamed with joy. At that moment, something caught Meiana’s eye.

“Oh my, Your Highness. Just a moment. Could you please open your mouth and say ‘ah’?”

Looking utterly bewildered, Ariante clutched the tiara tightly and opened her mouth like a baby bird. Sediloi, too, wore a puzzled expression, unsure why Meiana had asked that.

“Your Highness, your tooth has come in!”

Ariante’s eyes widened.

“Really?”

“Yes, really! I’ll bring you a mirror.”

“I want to see it! I’ll look myself!”
