It was in an instant that Sediloi’s pleasantly drifting thoughts of Silas were abruptly severed. His vision suddenly went dark, then snapped wide open—and only then did he notice Ariante’s cheeks, faintly flushed pink.

“Huh? Father. Is that really okay?”

Ariante shook his hand, but Sediloi remained silent. What on earth was he supposed to say at a time like this? No—more importantly, when had she even started talking about such things…?

“Ariante… Hmm, well… Marriage isn’t something you need to think about just yet. It won’t be too late even if you wait a very long time… at least, that’s what Father thinks.”

“When, then? When I grow up?”

“But what if Silas marries someone else before that? He’s three years older than me, you know!”

“If Silas truly likes you as much as you say he does, Ariante, then he’ll wait for you without marrying anyone else until you’re grown. So don’t worry.”

“Are you waiting for Meiana, too, Father?”

That was an even more surprising remark. Sediloi nearly choked, cut short his small cough, and stared down at his daughter with a bright red face.

“What do you mean by that?”

“You like Meiana, don’t you? And Meiana seems to like you too, I think. Then why don’t you marry her? You’re both grown-ups, so you’re allowed to marry!”
