Though she muttered softly as if trying not to be overheard, Ariante knew Sediloi must have heard her words.

Ariante turned her gaze slightly and tilted her head as she spoke.

“Then, is that not allowed?”

Sediloi’s lips twitched briefly. Unconsciously tightening his grip on the reins, the horse shook its head in protest. He pulled Ariante closer to keep her from slipping, then cleared his throat.

“…You’re saying you’d like it if Father married Meiana?”

“Yes. Then Meiana wouldn’t leave and could stay with us forever.”

“But what if Meiana dislikes Father?”

Ariante’s eyes widened in surprise—her expression clearly saying such a thing was unthinkable.

“She wouldn’t! Father is incredibly handsome, and, um, he’s a duke, after all. Meiana will surely like him too.”

Sediloi remained silent, quietly watching Ariante. His thoughts were rather tangled. He felt strangely as though he were sitting embarrassed before a seven-year-old child, having laid bare all his secrets.

“Well, Ariante… I’m not sure things will go exactly as you say.”

Sediloi murmured. Ariante stared fixedly at him—sometimes seeming to understand everything, yet at other times appearing utterly innocent, holding only a pure, naive wish.

But. As Sediloi adjusted his grip on the reins and turned the horse, he thought: now he could face Meiana directly, who stood far ahead.

The horse’s steps grew increasingly lively, and Ariante, clutching tightly to its bobbing neck, let out a joyful shriek.
