No Evil Lady in the World (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
―Slap!
With a harsh sound, Meiana’s face whipped to the left. The blow was so fierce that her jaw stung, and she must have bitten her tongue, as a droplet of blood splattered from her lips.
Even seeing Meiana’s face begin to swell hideously, the Viscountess’s anger showed no signs of abating. Far from calming down, she was undoubtedly further enraged by Meiana’s refusal to scream or shed a single tear.
Slap! The Viscountess’s fierce strike landed again on Meiana’s reddened cheek. This time, Meiana could no longer hold her ground and tumbled to the side. Only then did the Viscountess, with a slight air of satisfaction, let out a huff and shout,
“A mere maid, a lowly and filthy thing, dares to lay hands on my husband!”
The Viscountess’s shouting mouth gaped wide, red, and grotesque, like a monstrous cave. Meiana, clutching her numb cheek, took a moment to catch her breath, then steadied herself and stood up. She looked the Viscountess straight in the eye.
“No, my lady. You’re mistaken. I didn’t lay hands on the master—I used my foot. I kicked him in the crotch.”
“What did you say, you wretch!”
The Viscountess lunged at Meiana the moment the words left her mouth. Spewing curses too vile to repeat, she began to beat Meiana mercilessly.
Meiana found the Viscountess’s foul stench more unbearable than the pain of the blows. Each time the woman opened her mouth to shriek, a hot, offensive breath poured out, forcing Meiana to turn her head—not to dodge the strikes, but to escape that breath.
“My lady, my lady!”
The head butler, Roll, burst through the closed door and pulled the Viscountess away from Meiana.
Meiana didn’t believe for a second that he had only just noticed the situation. He had probably been eavesdropping outside for a while, only rushing in when it seemed the Viscountess might truly kill her…
“Let go of me! I’ll tear every hair from that wretch’s head! I’ll strip her bare and throw her out, so let go!”
“My lady, please calm yourself. Do you want to collapse again like before? Why should you trouble yourself with a misbehaving maid? I’ll scold her soundly and send her away.”
The Viscountess, panting heavily, roughly shook off Roll’s hand. Her elegant updo, painstakingly crafted by the maids all morning, had come undone, and her jewelry hung askew, a complete mess. She looked less like a Viscountess and more like a rough thug from a back alley.
“If you let that wretch linger in my sight even once more, you’ll answer to me with your life!”
“Of course, my lady. Now, now… Leah! Don’t just stand there like a fool, take the lady to her room!”
At Roll’s shout, a maid who had been standing fearfully by the door hurried inside. But the Viscountess sharply rebuffed the maid’s assistance and stormed off like a whirlwind.
Meiana watched this grim farce in a daze. Only after the Viscountess left and Roll closed the door did she snap out of it, letting out a hollow laugh.
Roll turned to her with a stern glare.
“What’s so funny, you?”
Meiana met his gaze defiantly.
“What did I do wrong, Head Butler?”
Roll opened his mouth as if at a loss for words, then let out a simmering sigh through clenched teeth. In his nearly forty years of service as a servant in the Pobeck Viscount’s household, such chaos was hardly unfamiliar.
Roll said,
“Didn’t I tell you to be careful, time and again?”
Meiana’s eyes sharpened.
“Are you saying this is my fault?”
“You loitering in front of the master caused this mess, didn’t it?”
Meiana furrowed her brows in disbelief, her bruised lips trembling with anger.
“What nonsense are you spouting, Roll? I was just cleaning the study as I was told. Have you forgotten who I am? I’m a maid in this house. I scrub the stairs when told, clean the study when told, and empty the chamber pots of those disgusting people when told!”
A flicker of discomfort crossed Roll’s face. In truth, his greatest flaw was his indecision, not a malicious heart. But to Meiana, in that moment, his indecision felt more detestable than any cruelty.
Roll said,
“That’s not entirely wrong, but… you should’ve been more cautious around the master! You know his habits, and you know the lady’s temper, so why stir up trouble?”
Meiana shot back,
“What should I have done? Let that filthy pig have his way with me and keep my mouth shut?”
“That’s not what I meant…!”
“What about the lady’s temper? Is there anyone in the world who doesn’t know she’s paranoid about her husband? Ha! It’s laughable. To be paranoid over a man like Viscount Pobeck! Even if you begged someone to take him, they’d spit in your face!”
Roll’s face turned beet red. Yet even in this situation, he couldn’t decide whether to reprimand Meiana or take some other action.
Muttering to himself and pacing with a flushed face, Roll pulled a few coins from his pocket and forcibly pressed them into Meiana’s hand, saying,
“Anyway, you can’t stay in this house anymore. Go find another job.”
Meiana let out a scoff.
“You call that an explanation?”
“Call it what you want! Just leave now. If the lady finds out you’re still here, the house will truly be turned upside down!”
Roll forcibly pushed Meiana toward the door.
“What do I care if the house is turned upside down! Damn it, stop pushing me! What did I do wrong? Roll! You know everything, and you’re doing this to me?”
Meiana struggled to resist, but when she saw the other servants peeking from various corners of the house, watching her with curious eyes, her strength drained away.
“Ugh!”
A burly servant kicked Meiana out the front door. As she tumbled unceremoniously, he smirked and went back inside. Then someone threw out a bag—her bag.
Trending
The massive front door slammed shut with a bang! Meiana stared at her worn bag, its latch broken and gaping, and the few coins clutched in her hand, swallowing her rising anger.
‘Damn it, dying was bad enough, but what is this miserable life! It’s driving me insane!’
Meiana was born the eldest daughter of a poor farming couple.
Unlike other babies, she didn’t spend happy times in a cradle. Her parents were so poor they couldn’t afford a proper crib.
Instead, Meiana was laid on a bundle of straw tied with rope. Even now, past twenty, she could vividly recall the pain of straw poking through thin cloth into her tender skin.
At first, she thought she was dreaming, then that she was mad. By the time she was about three, after carefully piecing together her past memories, she had no choice but to accept it.
Her original self had died.
And things like past lives or reincarnation, absurd as they seemed, were real.
Meiana’s life was not easy. She hadn’t committed any particular sins in her previous life, yet it felt unjust. Her parents even had five more children after her. Caring for her younger siblings fell entirely on Meiana’s shoulders.
‘After slaving away in that backwater village, I ended up here…’
Meiana crouched in a corner by a building, staring blankly at the people passing by on the street.
She had arrived in the kingdom’s capital, El Lautica, four years ago. She was hired as a live-in maid for the Pobeck Viscount’s household two years ago. If she could, Meiana wanted to go back two years and kick the version of herself who decided to become a maid for the Pobeck Viscount.
A pointless thought. Meiana shook her head. Instead of wasting time, she should be worrying about where to sleep tonight.
She recalled the maids whispering that a big rain was coming this evening. The dark clouds rolling in from the west suggested they were right.
“But I have no money.”
Meiana muttered blankly.
The few coins Roll had given her were only enough to buy a couple of cheap loaves from a street vendor. They wouldn’t cover a night at an inn. Maybe if she begged to sleep in a barn…
Then it happened. Meiana startled as a sudden warmth brushed her side, looking down. Upon realizing what it was, she relaxed and slumped down.
“What are you? Where did you come from?”
Rubbing against Meiana’s side was a dog. It seemed quite old, with matted fur and dirty tear stains.
But Meiana didn’t mind and hugged the dog tightly. The dog obediently nestled in her arms, licking her cheek.
“If it rains tonight, I’ll hold you to keep warm. In return, you can avoid the rain in my arms. How’s that? A good deal for both of us, right?”
Meiana whispered, rubbing her forehead against the dog’s scruffy fur.
The dog, which had been quietly panting in her arms, suddenly slipped out. A low rumble of thunder sounded from the distant sky. Meiana, instinctively alarmed, chased after the dog.
“Hey, where are you going? You’ll catch a cold in the rain. Come here, okay? If I hold you, you won’t get as wet.”
But the dog kept trotting ahead, its paws pattering.
Did it have a secret hiding spot? Meiana wondered. Stray dogs and cats on the streets always knew the nooks and crannies to escape rain, snow, cold, or heat. If so, that would be a relief…
“How far are you going?”
Meiana sped up to grab the dog, but a rickety fence blocked her. The dog slipped under it, darting across a grassy yard to someone’s feet.
Meiana stared blankly. An elderly woman, looking very old, was gently petting the dog’s head. Then she suddenly turned toward Meiana.
“Chals, have we got a guest?”
The dog barked, “Woof!” as if in reply.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
