“If you permit me to add one more thing, my lord. As you mentioned earlier, it’s true that children of noble families are accustomed to adult-like attire from a young age. I’m not so ignorant as to not know that. But I don’t wish to burden the Princess with that pain just yet. Please consider it.”
After finishing her words, Meiana slightly grasped the hem of her skirt and bowed, then briskly headed toward Ariante’s bedroom without a hint of hesitation.
Watching her retreating figure, Sedilroy felt a myriad of complex emotions. Her upright posture, the attitude that seemed fearless.
But Meiana was not her. She was different. While Meiana’s core was strong and solid, hers was fragile, wilting at the touch like a daisy.
The door closed. Now standing alone in the center of the empty living room, Sedilroy slowly closed his eyes.
Ariante was lying on the bed, curled up like a ball. Though she had surely heard Meiana’s footsteps, she did not even raise her head.
‘She’s completely ignored me…’
Meiana thought.
But this time, she couldn’t playfully tease Ariante.
Regardless of what happened before or after, it was clear she had raised her voice to Ariante. Sometimes children need discipline, but reacting emotionally was not good behavior for an adult.
“Princess.”
I called out cautiously, but Ariante gave no response. She was so upset that she kept her lips tightly sealed, not even letting out the sound of her shallow breaths.
Mayana gently reached out and shook Ariante’s small shoulders.
“Princess, I’m sorry. Can’t we make up?”
That was the moment. Ariante, who had brushed off Mayana’s hand, suddenly sat up. Her hair, not a pin removed, was tangled in a mess, and even scraps that had clearly come from a sailcloth were hanging on the hem of her dress.
With a sharp gaze, Ariante spoke.
“Making up is for when we’ve fought. I’ve never fought with you! You’re the one who yelled at me, Mayana!”
“Yes, that’s why I’m saying I’m sorry. But I think the Princess should apologize to me as well.”
“Why should I?”
“You didn’t listen to my concerns. That’s why you almost fainted from pain. Do you know how scared I was? I thought my heart would sink, thinking you might pass out.”
Tears gathered in Ariante’s blinking eyes. Then they rolled down her round cheeks.
Mayana understood, of course. But Ariante couldn’t apologize due to her pride. Knowing all of this, Mayana sat softly beside Ariante.
Ariante, expected to kick up a fuss, surprisingly moved aside quietly.
Tilting her head towards Ariante, Mayana spoke.
“May I wipe your tears?”
“No.”
A small head turned sharply to the side. Mayana smiled, a mix of pity and adoration, and cautiously embraced Ariante. The child wept in her arms, still angry but calm.
“I’m sorry for yelling. I shouldn’t have. You’re still young, but I acted more like a child than you did, Princess.”
It was not the apology Ariante had expected. She thought Mayana, just a maid, would profusely apologize for yelling at her, a Princess.
Realizing it was not the case caused a brief confusion in Ariante. However, she didn’t dislike hearing Mayana’s words.
Ariante kept looking at Mayana, her lips still tightly sealed. Mayana softly caressed the back of Ariante’s small hand as she spoke in a soothing tone.
“But, Princess, don’t wear corsets in the future. When you grow up, you’ll have plenty of days when you’ll have to wear them even if you don’t want to. You don’t need to practice smiling while your whole body is in pain and it’s hard to breathe.”
Ariante, who had been pouting, slightly pinched Mayana’s arm.
“What’s ‘plenty’?”
“Very, very many.”
“I don’t want to wear corsets when I grow up.”
“Then, Princess, you can do as you wish.”
Ariante’s blue eyes looked up at Mayana.
“Everyone will hate it if I do what I want.”
“Then make friends who won’t hate it. There will definitely be people who think whatever you do is okay. Like me.”
Now, Ariante’s breathing had calmed. Her tiny hands endlessly fiddled with the skin exposed from Mayana’s sleeves, as she nestled her forehead against Mayana like a puppy.
“I’m sorry.”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
