She had started keeping a dog at the age of six and went through cycles of parting and meeting. That immense yearning was inescapable. No matter how old she got, or how much time passed, tears surged when she thought about her past life.

“Mayana!”

Snapped out of her reverie by Sedilroi’s urgent voice, Mayana turned her head in surprise.

“What’s wrong?”

“Arianthe’s condition is strange.”

Rushing over, Mayana took Arianthe from Sedilroi’s arms. Her face was pale, and her forehead was cold. When she touched the back of her neck, a slight sweaty residue was felt.

What’s going on? Why is this happening? Mayana was as disconcerted as Sedilroi, if not more.

“Your Highness, where do you feel unwell?”

But Arianthe didn’t respond and only moaned. In a hurry, Mayana laid Arianthe down on the low straw mat and looked at Sedilroi.

“Did this just start happening?”
Sedilroy nodded with a puzzled expression.

“I was watching just fine… all of a sudden.”

Meiyana quickly checked Ariante’s complexion and felt her hands and feet. They were both cold. Her ragged breathing became increasingly rapid, followed by a groan-like sound.

“Uh…”

Ariante’s body squirmed. The child’s body twitched as if she was trying to curl her waist.

For a moment, a thought flashed through Meiyana’s mind. She untied the ribbon of the dress Ariante was wearing and took off her top.

“What are you doing right now?”

Sedilroy exclaimed in surprise. But Meiyana, unbuttoning each tightly sewn button one by one, didn’t even look back at him as she spoke.

“Go and stand by the door to make sure no one comes in.”

She said sharply. Unable to make sense of the situation, Sedilroy hesitated before realizing there was nothing else he could do and left for the outside of the windmill.

Once he was gone, Meiyana, who had been unbuttoning, lowered her voice and asked,

“Your Highness, your stomach hurts, doesn’t it? Right?”

Ariante tried to shake off Meiyana’s hand with a whining sound. But she had no strength, so her hand simply fell limp.

“I told you that you don’t have to wear something like a corset.”

“Still, Father…”

Ariante began to cry with sobs. Having finally undone all the tedious buttons, Meiyana slipped her fingers through the tightened ribbons of the corset and loosened them.

“Ah…”

Ariante let out a small sigh. Now breathing seemed a bit easier. Meiyana pulled down the upper part of the dress further and completely untied the corset ribbon.

Color immediately returned to the child’s face. Her breathing also stabilized. But when Meiyana tried to pull the corset out from under the dress, Ariante started to shake all over.

“No, I won’t take it off. I’m fine now.”

Meiyana said,

“Of course you’re fine, because it’s off! If you put it back on, you’ll be in pain again. Absolutely not.”

“I said I’m really fine! No!”

“Your Highness!”

Meiyana unintentionally raised her voice and was startled by her own outburst. Ariante also looked surprised.

Meiyana sighed and said,

“…I apologize for shouting, Your Highness, but…”

“That’s enough.”

Ariante abruptly cut off Meiyana’s words and turned her head. Looking down at her face, her eyes were filled with tears.

“Your Highness.”

“Enough. If I don’t wear it, that’s fine. Now go away.”

This isn’t right. Meiyana sighed inwardly with regret.

It was fortunate that Ariante was not insisting on wearing the corset, but she was already having a headache about how to explain this to others.

After dressing Ariante, Sedilroy came back into the windmill and lifted her up somewhat skillfully.

“Are you all right now?”

“Yes, Father… I’m sorry.”

Sedilroy’s eyebrows slightly furrowed.

“There’s nothing to be sorry for. You’re not at fault for being sick.”

Ariante didn’t say anything. Sedilroy sensed a strange tension between Meiyana and Ariante. His gaze shifted to Meiyana, and then to something she was holding.

“What is that, Meiyana?”

“It’s a corset, Your Grace.”

“A corset?”

Sedilroy glanced at Ariante. Her flushed face was unclear whether she was angry or embarrassed as she lowered her gaze.

“Is it because of the corset that she wasn’t feeling well?”

Meiyana swiftly turned around.
“Indeed, Your Grace. As you say. Is it not natural for a seven-year-old to feel this way when dressed in such constricting attire? Barely able to breathe, forced to maintain tension throughout the body. Wouldn’t it be strange if it didn’t hurt?”

She was angry, yet she couldn’t comprehend why her emotions had surged so intensely. Sedilroy, who had become the target of criticism from Meiana, was equally perplexed.

For a moment, Sedilroy, who had been staring at Meiana as if lost, furrowed his brow.

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
