My Sweet Enemy (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
Tae In took the little kid straight to the animal hospital next door. She bought some small dog food and treats, and came back with a large box.
She moved the puppy into the large box instead of the small one, put the food into a paper bowl she’d bought at a convenience store, and placed bottled water beside it. The puppy seemed thirstier than hungry and drank the water frantically.
The little kid’s name was Jeong Don.
She had thought he was a grumpy child full of complaints, but once they got friendly, he turned out to be quite chatty.
“Can’t you keep him, noona?”
“I’m practically living off someone else’s kindness right now—well, not dead, but… Can’t your family keep him?”
At Tae In’s words, Jeong Don slumped his shoulders and let out a deep sigh.
“Dad and noona left me with Grandma and went away. Even though Grandma’s back and knees hurt, she gets up before dawn to fry chicken because of me.”
Jeong Don continued slowly, trying hard not to cry.
Tae In listened in silence. Jeong Don stroked the puppy’s head as it looked up at him, then opened his mouth again.
“We can’t add another burden.”
Tae In understood what Jeong Don was trying to say.
She was in the same situation herself. Her memories weren’t fully intact, and she was staying at Nok Hyeon’s place. Even though he was supposedly her husband, whether due to her amnesia or the odd sense of distance she felt, she mostly felt like she was living as a guest in someone else’s home.
“You’re already so mature. But Grandma probably doesn’t see you as a burden.”
After a long internal struggle, Tae In spoke carefully. No matter how young he was, she didn’t want to offer reckless advice.
Jeong Don, who had been silently petting the puppy, looked up at Tae In. His eyes sparkled, making her flinch.
Could it be… that I look like a cool adult in his eyes?
Do I, someone who’s lost her memory, really seem like a cool grown-up?
Tae In felt oddly proud. But before she could enjoy that feeling for long, a loud rumbling erupted from her stomach.
Grrrrrroooowl.
She’d forgotten because of the puppy—the fact that she’d gone out for chicken but hadn’t gotten to eat any.
“Are you hungry, noona?”
“…A little?”
“Wanna come eat at our place?”
“Your place?”
“Yeah. That Yesul Chicken over there is Grandma’s shop—if there are no customers, she’ll probably give us some chicken.”
Yesul Chicken—that was precisely today’s destination, the shop run by the firm owner from whom she’d failed to get a 1,000-won discount.
“You… are that owner’s grandson?”
Jeong Don nodded his head.
Just moments ago, she’d felt a sense of kinship, but now a sudden distance crept in.
Wait—this kid’s a gold-spoon kid?
For a brief moment, Tae In forgot her own circumstances and looked at Jeong Don with sparkling eyes.
“Do you think your grandma would mind adding one more burden?”
Tae In, who suddenly found herself burdened with a sense of shame.
***
Back home, Tae In immediately showered and changed clothes as if preparing for a perfect crime.
She completely forgot about her current situation and found herself humming cheerfully. She’d made a friend, and thanks to that friend, she’d eaten chicken to her heart’s content. She’d even become friendly with the once-stern shop owner.
Just one trip to the market, and she’d gained two friends—how had her past self lived without even a single friend?
While lost in these thoughts, she heard the front door open. Wondering if it was Nok Hyeon, Tae In hurried over.
“You look disappointed it’s not the managing director.”
Jung Yi Kyung stepped inside, arms full of paper bags.
Tae In pouted.
“Where’s Kang Nok Hyeon?”
“He won’t be back for a while—he’s busy.”
“Did he go on a business trip?”
“Yes, something like that.”
Yi Kyung neatly arranged her purchases in the refrigerator.
Tae In helped her from the side.
“How was your day?”
She was asking whether Tae In had made any progress. Tae In shook her head.

She’d wandered through the market, met a puppy, made a new friend, and eaten chicken—but nothing she could actually share with Yi Kyung.
“What if I never regain my memory?”
Tae In asked anxiously. Yi Kyung looked at her with a completely neutral expression.
“That won’t happen. It absolutely cannot.”
Tae In felt breathless. It wasn’t like she was refusing to remember on purpose.
“When will Kang Nok Hyeon be back?”
“Who knows.”
“Could you get me a phone of my own?”
“What, isn’t secretly using my tablet enough?”
When had she been caught? Tae In tried her best not to look surprised. But Yi Kyung, seemingly uninterested, finished organizing the remaining items and prepared to leave.
“Then just lend me your phone once—so I can call Kang Nok Hyeon.”
“…What do you plan to say?”
“Just… talk like a married couple would?”
“…”
Yi Kyung fell into deep thought. Tae In frowned and spoke again.
“You know it’d be really weird if you don’t give it to me, right?”
Wasn’t it practically imprisonment—to wait indefinitely for a husband whose return date was unknown, without even being allowed a single phone call?
Reluctantly, Yi Kyung handed her phone to Tae In.
Tae In easily found Nok Hyeon’s name in the recent call log.
“I’ll be quick—just a minute?”
She darted into the bedroom and made the call.
Nok Hyeon answered immediately.
—What.
His blunt voice reached her ear.
“…It’s me.”
—Seo Tae In?
He said her name right away.
“When are you coming back?”
—Since when did we agree to speak informally?
“You started it first, Kang Nok Hyeon.”
—So we’ve even settled on terms of address now.
She heard a faint chuckle, and her heart unexpectedly fluttered.
“…Don’t you miss me?”
—I miss you.
His immediate, hesitation-free reply felt suspicious.
Tae In exhaled a trembling breath and spoke again.
“You said you went on a business trip—you’re not coming back empty-handed, are you?”
—What do you want me to bring?
“…Something I like.”
—Alright.
Huh? Did he know what she liked better than she did herself?
Tae In tilted her head in confusion. Then came a knock on the door—it must have already been a minute.
“I’ll steal your phone again later to call you.”
—Just don’t get caught.
She wanted to hear his breathing just a bit longer, but the increasingly urgent knocking forced Tae In to quickly end the call and open the door.
“Ms. Seo Tae In, I’m very particular about my quitting time.”
“Yes, yes. I used it well.”
Tae In obediently returned the phone to Yi Kyung and saw her off.
She waved until Yi Kyung’s car disappeared from view, then went back inside.
Though she had to stay alone in the huge, empty house, she didn’t feel scared today.

“I wonder what I really like. What will Kang Nok Hyeon bring me?”
Truthfully, it didn’t matter what he brought. Tae In just wanted to see Nok Hyeon’s face as soon as possible.
***
Tae In had a dream.
“Mr. Kang Nok Hyeon, let’s get a divorce. I think we’ve had enough.”
She wasn’t sure if it was a dream or a memory from the past.
But she remembered how her chest ached so badly she couldn’t even breathe.
“Alright.”
And she was certain—his voice had carried no emotion at all.
When she fully woke from the dream and regained her sense of reality, Tae In was sure.
It had been a memory surfacing as a dream.
Otherwise, the emotions couldn’t have felt so vivid even after waking.
Tae In pressed her hand firmly against her heavy chest. She’d expected it—but her life truly hadn’t been happy.
She mentally organized all the information she’d gathered so far.
A dysfunctional family; sisters coveting her possessions. Among her relatives, only her younger sibling had been on her side.
In that situation, Nok Hyeon must have been her steadfast ally.
Then why had he suddenly suggested divorce?
He must have loved her—there was no way he couldn’t have.
Tae In got up and rushed straight to the second floor.
Nok Hyeon’s bedroom door was open, but the inner door remained firmly shut.
In an age where even front doors used digital locks, it was unlikely he’d carry a physical key himself.
Tae In opened every drawer in the room, one by one.
Her heart pounded wildly, as if she were committing some terrible secret crime.
“…Found it.”
Tae In inserted the tiny key into the lock.
At the soft click, she held her breath and opened the door.
She turned on the light in the dark storage room and peered inside.
Not a walk-in closet—but a single women’s handbag sat conspicuously in the center.
Tae In reached out with trembling hands and picked it up.
The moment she lifted it, she knew—this was her bag.
Burn marks were scattered all over it. Inside were a small pouch and a crumpled piece of paper.
She unfolded the paper—it was a divorce application form. Tae In’s section was already completely filled out.
The scene from her dream had indeed been part of her memory.
All strength drained from her body, and she sank to the floor.
She’d been about to divorce, then had the accident, lost her memory, and was now hiding out in the vacation home of the very husband she’d wanted to leave.
Had he really been trying to protect her? Or…
Tae In clenched the already crumpled divorce form tightly in her fist.

“Before your next appointment, you should probably stop by to see Mrs. Choi.”
At Yi Kyung’s words, Nok Hyeon furrowed his brow.
Choi Mo Ra—she was Nok Hyeon’s mother. Mo Ra believed that Nok Hyeon’s younger brother, Do Hyeon, had been killed by Shim Yoo Ran, his father’s concubine.
Since Yoo Ran’s son Ji Un was the same age as Do Hyeon, and since Do Hyeon had vastly outshone Ji Un in every way, Mo Ra firmly believed Yoo Ran had eliminated Do Hyeon early on.
Having just seen his father yesterday, Nok Hyeon’s irritation flared.
“If you don’t go today, she says she’ll come to the office herself.”
Seeing Yi Kyung’s troubled expression, Nok Hyeon could guess just how thoroughly Mo Ra had grilled her.
He checked his wristwatch—it was just past 3 p.m.
“I’ll handle today’s schedule myself. Head to Gapyeong.”
“Yes.”
Nok Hyeon pressed his throbbing temples.
He could already hear Mo Ra’s hysterical voice in his head.

“But you are getting some sleep, right?”
Did he even average two hours of sleep? He couldn’t even recall when he’d last eaten a proper meal.
Nok Hyeon slipped out of the office and got into Driver Kim’s waiting car.
He’d only closed his eyes for a moment—but when he opened them, they’d already arrived at the family home.
An hour had already passed—he must have fallen asleep from accumulated exhaustion.
Driver Kim probably hadn’t woken him due to Yi Kyung’s request.
The car entered through the back gate and stopped directly at the rear quarters where Mo Ra stayed.
Mo Ra, lying on the sofa, turned only her head to greet her son.
She looked even thinner. It was no surprise—despite having cancer, she refused treatment and lived steeped in alcohol.
She’d declared she’d never divorce, willingly labeling herself an old woman confined to the back room.
Because of that, Yoo Ran remained stuck in the status of a concubine.
No matter how deep her hatred, could anything truly be more important than her own life?
“Why didn’t you answer my calls?”
“I was busy with work.”
Mo Ra sat up, her face filled with irritation.
“Is work really more important? Does it really matter that much?”
“I have to work. What else can I do.”
“Your wife is dead! Yet you can eat, sleep, and work? You’re exactly like your father—exactly the same.”
Mo Ra’s eyes dripped with venom, as if it were her own tragedy.
He hadn’t even started, and he was already weary.
He’d heard plenty of resentment in his life. It was understandable—he’d cared devotedly for Shim Yoo Ran and Kang Ji Un, the very people believed responsible for the death of his kind-hearted, beloved younger brother, so of course people resented him.
But Nok Hyeon still found his mother’s hysterics utterly repulsive.
“So you’re still refusing treatment?”
“…It’ll only end when I die.”
Nok Hyeon shrugged, as if he’d heard this countless times before, and pulled a candy from his pocket into his mouth.
He rolled it around with his tongue.
“…You’re still a child.”
“Want one?”
“Your wife’s death… it has nothing to do with Shim Yoo Ran, does it?”
“I don’t know.”
“How can you talk about it like it’s someone else’s story!”
Because she’s not actually dead.
But he couldn’t say that—especially not to his mother.
“Anyway, be careful. Shim Yoo Ran’s a ruthless woman. I can’t lose you too.”
Nok Hyeon, who had been listening silently, suddenly burst out laughing.
“That’s incredibly touching of you—you’re so devoted.”
His mother, Mo Ra, had attempted suicide from grief over losing Do Hyeon. For Mo Ra, it had always only been about Do Hyeon.
She even hated Nok Hyeon simply because he’d been in the same car yet survived alone.
Deep down, she probably wished it had been the useless, cold-hearted Nok Hyeon who’d died instead of her beloved Do Hyeon.
Mo Ra would spend her whole life longing for her dead son.
That was why Nok Hyeon no longer expected or hoped for anything from her.
It was only natural.
Mo Ra looked displeased, but unlike before, she didn’t throw things or hurl insults.
“It’s unfortunate what happened to Tae In. I was worried you’d also come to harm since I hadn’t heard from you.”
Had she been worried he might have chosen the same path she once had after losing her son?
Nok Hyeon swallowed a bitter smile.
“There’s no way I’d feel such deep emotions.”
He stood up without hesitation.
Just then, his phone rang.
It was Yi Kyung. Remembering that Tae In had called him last night from Yi Kyung’s phone, a smile automatically appeared on his lips.

He quickly brought the phone to his ear.
But what he heard was completely different from what he’d expected.
—Managing Director, Ms. Seo Tae In is missing!
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
