Where had things started to go wrong? Se Ji pondered, trapped inside the sealed room.

Just the day before, she’d held a small celebration with Young Gap, Young Mi, and Hong Gyu to toast their success. Their company, which had been in rough financial shape until recently, had just secured investment from a foreign corporation—news of which had sent their stock price skyrocketing.

This deal in particular had been spearheaded entirely by Se Ji, making the victory especially meaningful. She felt vindicated, having finally proven her worth to the directors who’d always underestimated her.

She’d just cornered Tae In—the thorn in her side—by using A Rin against her. But in an instant, the tables had turned. Se Ji had been treating company funds as her own all along. When she’d believed Tae In was dead, she’d pinned everything on her.

Already on edge from mounting anxiety, she flinched as a sharp, grating metallic screech suddenly echoed through the room.

Immediately afterward, her vision blurred. Gas seeped into her nose and mouth. Caught off guard by the gas attack, everyone began coughing and writhing in unison, as if they’d rehearsed it.

“What the hell…?!”

Young Gap pounded on the door between coughing fits, but it wouldn’t budge. With no windows in this sealed room, escape was impossible.

Apparently, whoever was behind it didn’t actually intend to kill them—the gas quickly dissipated. Before they could even breathe a sigh of relief, a loud, theatrical clearing of the throat crackled from a speaker mounted on the wall.

“The next one will be lethal poison gas.”

The voice, distorted beyond recognition, made it impossible to tell if it belonged to a man or a woman.

“What is this? Are we going to die? Did Seo Tae In do this?”

Se Young, wiping away tears and snot, choked back a sob.

“Mom, what do we do now? Unnie, are we going to die?”

“Can you just shut up!”
