My Sweet Enemy (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
While Nok Hyeon was getting ready, Tae In meticulously planned out their route.
This wasn’t just a simple walk—it was a date.
It was the first time going out alone together with Nok Hyeon.
She didn’t know how things had been before she lost her memory, but for the Tae In of now, this was a momentous occasion.
Tae In nibbled thoughtfully on the tip of her pen.
The standard date route was to do something experiential first, followed by a food tour of famous restaurants.
They’d go to the market to buy lots of Stella supplies, then head straight to Ye Seul Chicken.
Suddenly, a doubt crossed her mind.
Would Nok Hyeon actually enjoy this itinerary?
It was entirely made up of places Tae In herself wanted to go.
It was frustrating—they couldn’t openly go to a fancy restaurant to treat him to delicious food or take over a department store to pick out a few outfits for him, all because they had to stay hidden.
Not even being able to give nice things to someone she liked…
But then again, what did Kang Nok Hyeon even like?
Aside from the fact that he often ate cherry-flavored candy, she didn’t really know anything else. Tae In sighed deeply, resting her chin in her hand. She wanted to believe it was just because she’d lost her memory.
She hadn’t even finished planning the whole date yet when Nok Hyeon came downstairs.
He was wearing a shirt and slacks—casual yet neat.
Tae In, who’d been staring at him as if entranced, firmly shook her head.
“Something’s missing.”
She went to her room and placed the sun cap she’d been wearing onto Nok Hyeon’s head.
“Now it’s perfect.”
“You’re serious?”
“Kang Nok Hyeon, you’re famous—you can’t get caught.”
“You’re even more famous.”
Nok Hyeon put the sun cap onto Tae In’s head, then added with a chuckle,
“You really have no idea who you used to be, do you?”
Tae In had belonged to Tae Gang’s fashion division.
She was the one who’d breathed new life into the division after its long slump.
And yet now, Tae In was fully decked out in a floral set, arm warmers, and even a sun cap—and was dragging Nok Hyeon into the same look.
Nok Hyeon, however, managed to negotiate wearing a black hat instead, and thus secured permission to go out together.
Tae In’s heart fluttered.
She suddenly felt excited all over again as scenes she’d only ever seen in dramas came to life—Nok Hyeon guiding her into quieter parts of the park or gently holding her shoulder whenever someone passed by.
They stopped by the animal hospital to buy treats and toys for Stella and also had her health checked.
After that, they headed straight to today’s main destination.
Although Tae In had suggested a simple walk but ended up running other errands, Nok Hyeon never once voiced a complaint and followed her lead without protest. It was truly odd.
“Grandmother, I’m here.”
“Why didn’t you come yesterday?”
“I brought someone rich instead—give me lots!”
Hearing Tae In’s voice from inside, Jeong Don, who’d been reading a picture book, peeked his head out.
“Unnie, is he your boyfriend?”
Tae In didn’t answer right away but whispered into Jeong Don’s ear,
“I’ll tell only you—he’s my husband. Don’t tell anyone else.”
She whispered loud enough for everyone to hear, making Nok Hyeon laugh in disbelief.
Seo Tae In, you’ve already made a new friend?
“Not even Grandma?”
“Nope.”
Then the two giggled together.
Right—that was exactly the age when secret conversations were the most fun.
Watching the two, who gave off a similar vibe, Nok Hyeon shook his head slowly.
“Wasn’t that guy you brought before your lover?”
Ye Seul, setting down the chicken, gave Tae In and Nok Hyeon a meaningful look.

“I’d never seen him before that day! Right, Jeong Don?”
“Exactly!”
Jeong Don vigorously shook his head, as if to emphasize they weren’t Tae In and her little friend.
Nok Hyeon tilted his head slightly and arched an eyebrow.
“Lover?”
“No! Just someone I ran into by chance.”
Tae In opened her eyes wide and drew a large X in the air with both arms.
“They both seem so gentle—you two matched really well.”
Gentle, huh.
Nok Hyeon narrowed his eyes slightly as he looked at Tae In.
This wasn’t why she’d brought him here. Right now, she almost resented that man whose face she couldn’t even recall.
“No! My standards are really high!”
“In this day and age, having two lovers isn’t impossible.”
Whether Tae In got flustered or not, Ye Seul coolly finished her piece and exited.
Tae In gave an awkward laugh and handed a chicken leg to Nok Hyeon.
“So you’ve made not just a new friend but also a lover?”
“We just happened to help that guy after he stupidly fell into a rice paddy—that’s all. I swear we never went to the chicken place on purpose.”
Seeing Tae In speak so firmly, Jeong Don, who’d quietly joined them at the table, nodded emphatically.
“Even if not a lover, you definitely made a friend.”
Relieved by Nok Hyeon’s words, Tae In finally smiled bashfully and started eating the chicken.
When Jeong Don left to run an errand for Grandmother, Tae In secretly asked Nok Hyeon,
“That earlier thing—was I right?”
“What thing?”
“You were jealous just now—I know. I’ve seen it in dramas. The male and female leads get jealous of each other, realize their feelings, and then always…”
“Always what?”
“Never mind—I’ll stop right there.”
Tae In, who’d been chattering excitedly, suddenly clamped her mouth shut and focused solely on chewing her chicken.
Her ears had turned completely red, and by now, Nok Hyeon had grown somewhat used to Tae In’s inability to hide her emotions.
He didn’t tease her further and simply watched as she ate.
The way she nibbled carefully with her small mouth was rather endearing.
“Can I ask you for a favor?”
“Anything except making me wear that sun cap.”
For some reason, Tae In just kept moving her lips without saying anything, but eventually spoke slowly,
“I want to meet my younger sibling.”
“…Younger sibling?”
Nok Hyeon remembered A Rin, who’d cried so bitterly at Tae In’s funeral.
“I think my sibling might be in some danger.”
Yoo Ran stepped into a traditional Korean house in Pyeongchang-dong.
Surrounded by tall trees within high walls, the hanok gave the impression of stepping into another world entirely.
It was so majestic and beautiful it felt a shame to waste it on mere indulgences.
To the left, a perfectly maintained pond without a trace of algae came into view, along with a large pavilion.
Seeing Director Yoon sprawled out inside the pavilion, Yoo Ran clicked her tongue in disapproval.
He matched perfectly with his idle lifestyle—though he’d probably insist he was some immortal sage.
At Yoo Ran’s arrival, Director Yoon slowly sat up from his reclined position behind the low railing.
“You’re an hour early.”
He was still wearing his night robe. Though annoyed, Yoo Ran didn’t bother pointing it out.
Even if the president showed up, he’d probably stay just as disheveled. The only person he’d ever feared was his grandfather—and now that his grandfather was gone, Director Yoon had nothing left to restrain him.
“I’m precisely on time.”
Frowning, Yoo Ran moved closer to the pavilion.
Her secretary pulled out a handkerchief and laid it down where Yoo Ran would sit, then took out a bug detector.

“That’s enough.”
Yoo Ran smiled gently to stop her secretary—not out of kindness, but because she’d already judged that someone who didn’t even know the scheduled time wouldn’t have prepared for eavesdropping in advance.
A staff member quickly brought out tea and snacks.
“Director Hwang seems to have done something rather foolish.”
Yoo Ran didn’t respond, merely taking a sip of tea at a comfortable temperature.
“He’s not the kind of man who’d cave to that sort of threat—especially someone like Managing Director Kang. We really needed to handle this more carefully.”
Yoo Ran slowly set down her teacup and stared directly at Director Yoon.
“That sounds like you’re implying you’d have used a different method.”
“I keep a cat.”
Yoo Ran frowned, bewildered by this sudden non sequitur, but Director Yoon continued unperturbed.
“I installed a home camera—would you like to see it?”
She’d carved out precious time from her busy schedule to come here, only for this. Yoo Ran clicked her tongue openly.
“If you called me just to chat, let’s wrap this up.”
“Watch closely—it’s the Korea vs. Japan match.”
Yoo Ran, who’d been about to stand, reluctantly looked at the screen.
As she watched the video of him cheering loudly at a soccer match with two friends, her expression subtly shifted.
Director Yoon chuckled knowingly and continued,
“July 7th—that was the day Seo Tae In died. Remember Managing Director Kang’s alibi?”
Nok Hyeon had testified that he’d had dinner with Director Yoon that day.
But in the video Director Yoon just showed, he was clearly watching a soccer match with friends.
“That means Managing Director Kang lied. Why would he lie like that?”
Director Yoon turned off the video and played an audio recording.
Yoo Ran’s brow furrowed. It was definitely Kang Nok Hyeon’s voice.
“So, did you receive the compensation?”
Director Yoon stretched his arm out to gesture broadly at his surroundings, then clenched his fist with a delighted expression.
“Seems rather generous payment for helping fabricate an alibi.”
Yoo Ran probed him, sensing he had the answer she wanted.
“It might not be as generous as it seems.”
“…”
“If Managing Director Kang was the one who killed Seo Tae In.”
Yoo Ran’s mind raced quickly.
Director Yoon’s hand was clear.
But something still felt off.
“Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to side with Managing Director Kang at this point?”
“Who knows? Even the koi in this pond know how cunning that man is. With just one-time leverage, there’s not much more to squeeze out—and I might end up like Seo Tae In myself.”
He shuddered dramatically, as if the mere thought terrified him.
Yoo Ran was still suspicious.
“You seem to know Managing Director Kang even less than the pond’s koi. Kang Nok Hyeon doesn’t act on emotion. He’s the cautious type who weighs pros and cons thousands of times. Why would he commit murder?”
Yoo Ran scoffed, and Director Yoon let out a soft laugh in response.
“I know he’s not emotional. Isn’t the rumor about Managing Director Kang being a sociopath something that came from your own household?”
Yoo Ran’s facial muscles twitched slightly.
“I’ve never heard that before.”
“Well, let’s assume that’s true. I have another reason for suspecting Managing Director Kang—one you apparently haven’t heard yet.”
Director Yoon exhaled slowly and continued,
“A new will from Seo Tae In has been discovered. It states that all assets under Seo Tae In’s name—including their shares in Tae Gang—are to be inherited entirely by Managing Director Kang. Their family is already in chaos over it. By now, they’re probably desperate enough to dig up the body if they have to.”
He burst into hearty laughter, declaring that nothing in the world was more entertaining than watching another family’s internal feuds.
Yoo Ran’s mind raced.
There had already been a will from Tae In.
It allocated Tae In’s real estate and Tae Gang shares to her birth family—and had been perfectly executed with a handwritten certificate, recorded audio, and notarization.

Tae In hadn’t inherited substantial assets from her grandparents, and her wealth was trivial compared to Nok Hyeon’s—so he hadn’t objected at the time. There was no way he’d kill her over something so minor.
‘Ah, right—that existed.’
Kang Hwang Guk, HK’s founder and Nok Hyeon’s grandfather, had gifted company shares to his daughter-in-law as a wedding present.
Now that his father was incapacitated, those HK shares that once belonged to Tae In might well be tempting for Nok Hyeon.
Whether Nok Hyeon had actually killed Tae In or not, or whether the will had been forged or not—the truth wasn’t all that important.
While Nok Hyeon was being investigated by prosecutors, they’d simply oust him and put Ji Un in his place as managing director.
Once Nok Hyeon was gone, eliminating Choi Mo Ra would be effortless.
Kang Cheol Han could be killed anytime, and the will was already airtight.
Yoo Ran had dreamed her whole life of claiming HK—the company she’d devoted her youth to.
And now, that dream was within arm’s reach.
